Ashton Lodge is a lovely care home, my mum was admitted in 2020, very emotional time during the pandemic. The home made things the best they could. Now visits are more like normal, I visit my mum regularly and the carers treat residents like their family. I am always updated on my mum, which is important
to me. Thank you for all your hard work.

I am extremely happy with the care given by the home. I feel the residents' needs are carefully looked at and their interests are given, very good and loving. The meals provided are of a very high standard. The improvement in my husband's well-being since his admission nine months ago is excellent.

My wife has been a resident since May 2020 and has felt safe and well-treated from the first day. Carers and management have been very good. The decor has been updated and this has improved the atmosphere of the house. The visiting areas are the only ones needing improvement and the staff are presently
checking into this problem.

I have found Ashton Lodge to be very helpful with a lovely caring and approachable attitude to residents and visitors, always willing to help and go above and beyond. They show respect to the residents and family and encourage the best for the residents, days out and family spending time. During Covid,
they did their best when they could to allow contact. Any problems they always get help and no fuss. In my view a very good care home and carers I call friends.

My mum lives with dementia and we made the difficult decision to put her in to care almost 2 years ago. Dad and I visited a few care homes in Dunstable when looking for somewhere for her. However, as soon as we had concluded our visit at Ashton Lodge we knew this was the right place. It wasn't the 'shiniest/newest'
care home we visited, but it was the one that felt right - it felt like a home, rather than just a care home.

The staff are truly lovely and form strong bonds with the residents. Importantly Ashton Lodge uses permanent staff, rather than agency staff, and many have worked there for a good few years - this means they know and understand your relative's needs.

Resident's rooms are spacious, the general grounds are pretty and the communal areas are numerous. Lots of social/activities for residents, along with events throughout the year where families can join in, such as a Summer fete or Christmas Party.

Recommend.

Two weeks respite stay for myself, staff were very helpful with anything I couldn’t manage. My stay recharged my body, as a multiple sclerosis sufferer, thank you so much, my room was very roomy this gave me lots of walking with my walker. The food was also very good and filling.

My mother had her 104th birthday in the home during April. I was unable to visit her because of lockdown. The staff at the home; made her a cake. They all came to her room and sang happy birthday. They videoed the occasion and sent it to the family. I cannot praise them enough in these hard times. On
my visits before lockdown, I have found them helpful and friendly. The home has kept virus-free; long may it reign. I am sure this is down to the excellent service provided. Thank you to all the staff and thank you for keeping my mum (the oldest resident) safe.

My nan came to Ashton Lodge after she spent some time in hospital. The staff have been very welcoming and already know such a lot about her. The managers have taken time to explain things to us and the deputy manager listened to me going on and on about my nan and never once made me feel like they didn’t
have time to listen to me they are very understanding. I am sure the residents are in safe hands here.

I put my husband in the care home about 22 months ago. I was upset at having to do this but was extremely pleased how easy the carers made the whole thing. Since the first meeting with the carers, I have not been disappointed at all. They are so caring and kind. Nothing is too much trouble. My husband
is happy and well cared for by these lovely carers.

My husband was admitted with vascular dementia as an emergency over Easter and died in early June 2017. During his stay, the care and love was superb. He was difficult with the staff, aggressive etc at times but always treated with respect and dignity.
I can recommend Ashton Lodge without reservations.
The staff are angels on legs and I was always welcome.

Dad was in Ashton Lodge for the last six months of his life. The staff there were generally very good with him, with some in particular really making his stay there dignified and as comfortable as it could be. The building itself is somewhat old and some areas were tired but there was decorative and
remedial work taking place during that time. The staff did their best with the facilities they had available to them.
The staff seemed well-trained and has a real affection for the residents which was a comfort.

My father's stay at Ashton Lodge was brief in comparison to most, but the care and treated he received from all the staff was fantastic. He was comfortable and happy there. Every day we visited the staff would greet is warmly and always accommodated any requests and answered any questions we had.

Massive improvements in the last one to five years. Staff genuinely care. Management team always communicate well with us as a family. Nan has dementia and staff are trained in Dementia champions which is great. Décor could be better but the home has a nice feel to it.

The staff have always been kind and considerate to my mother. Probably like most care homes the staff are generally very busy and could do with more staff. Because of my mothers condition I do feel that sometimes more care could be taken with her hygiene I do feel that things have improved since the
home has acquired some staff to make sure that the people in the home have a more varied entertainment outlook.

I have been here for eleven years having come in with my husband who died in the July following. I have been very happy here most of the time, like any where else there are good times and bad times but you can get that at home. There have been times when I thought about changing but it seemed too much
trouble, The service here is very good and all the staff are very friendly and helpful and the food is very good and plenty of it.

Friendly team and the care staff are friendly, approachable. The time and care they show my mother always puts my mind at rest when leaving. The deputy manager is great and I always feel confident in leaving matters in her hands. The home communicates well with me and always inform me of any appointments
my mother has. I would recommend Ashton Lodge if anyone was looking for a safe place for their loved one.

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.919)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.919) out of 10 for Ashton Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.571 for Ashton Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (52 Excellents x 5) + (28 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 84 Ratings = 4.571

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.348 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ashton Lodge is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 54 registered maximum number of service users is 10.8. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 10.8 = 0.648

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
