I last reviewed Carrington House in 2014 and feel compelled to write another review, as the latest CQC Report on Carrington House does not match what I witness, see and experience every week when I visit Dad and what I know Dad experiences on a day to day basis. I found it really difficult when looking
at suitable Care Homes with and for Dad and I feel for anybody who is faced with this difficult task now or in the future - the CQC Report, in my opinion, does not reflect the true position at Carrington.

I can absolutely vouch for Carrington. The staff and management have been, and continue to be, fantastic with Dad. He, and I, remain extremely happy with the support and standard of care that he receives and with the cleanliness and practices at the home. My view has not changed on Carrington and I reiterate that, if you are looking for a people-focused, family-feel Care Home you will not find better than Carrington House in my opinion.

In Dad's own words to this day "they treat me like a king here".

My husband has been a resident at Carrington House for a year now and is very settled. The staff and management are excellent and I feel very pleased that he is happy there. The carers are very kind and helpful. Food is good. The activities girls are also excellent and spend a lot of time entertaining
residents and taking them out on trips. I would recommend this care home to anyone who is looking for one for a relative.

My mother was a resident in this care home following the onset of vascular dementia. From the first day Aug 2012 the staff were kind, compassionate and thoughtful. At all times they treated her with dignity and respect. Their care for her went far past what time could reasonably have expected, up to
and including the time of her death. The last week of her life her whole family, 5 children, stayed with her 24hrs a day. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff to make our stay comfortable and to support us in every way.

When it came to the time when dad needed to move, my mum and I looked into care homes. Carrington was the first home we came out of and instinctively knew "that's the one". Great staff, activities and services given. Care isn't just about helping someone "survive" until its the end, but helping them
"live" and have a good quality of life until times up. The staff are very attentive and they seem to really care about my dad not just because they are paid to, but because they are human beings, I feel relaxed and comfortable knowing dad is being well looked after.

Carrington House is a friendly and welcoming home. Both staff and management always go out of their way to support my brother and also me when I'm visiting.

The staff of this care home are compassionate and kind. My wife, who is a resident patient there is very well attended and I have only gratitude and appreciation fore their kindness and tender loving care they give to an elderly and frail patient. Thanks particularly to the assistant manager for her
understanding and kindness.

Very happy with the care provided for my mother. Also my father visits regularly and receives a good deal of care and support during this very difficult period of transition. Unfortunately I can only visit at the weekends due to work commitments and length of journey, bit I am confident that my mother
is being care for in a kind and considerate manner.

My mum was a resident at Carrington House from March 2012 - Dec 2013. I felt that once mum had settled in which didn't take too long she was well cared for, and she soon got used to staff and the general running of the home. I visited everyday and was mostly happy with everything, the carers were good
with mum and me. As like with all homes there is not enough staff. Sometimes all the residents want is someone to sit and chat to them, which the staff don't have time to do always. I still visit the home although mum is no longer there and they now have an activities team which I feel has made a huge difference. I always found Carrington a "homely" home and at the latter part of mums life they could not have been any kinder to mum and all our family which I will never forget.

I feel they are short staffed and care of clients can suffer, not enough staff to feed, toilet etc. I visit my husband regularly so I can feed him, but do help to feed others. But on the whole I am happy with the care my husband receives.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.538)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.538) out of 10 for Carrington House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.888 for Carrington House is calculated as follows: ( (96 Excellents x 5) + (10 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 107 Ratings = 4.888

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.65 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Carrington House is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 12 = 0.75

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
