My cousin was cared for by the staff at Lilibet House after living in a care home in Devon for 20 years. He suffered from Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and Korsakoff syndrome.
The care and support given to my cousin was excellent. He always talked so highly of the carers and managers here.
The
communication was excellent. They always kept me informed and nothing was ever too much trouble.
I am so happy that my cousin got to spend his last 18 months here and would highly recommend.

My father was resident at Lillibet House from September 2019 - February 2020, after a diagnosis of Korsakoff Syndrome. Although not a home specialising in Korsakoff, the care he received was as good as it could be. The staff are caring, patient and supportive. Having a parent in care is very distressing
and would have been much harder without the support and advice I received from the staff at the home, who really helped us through a very difficult time. They did everything they could to help my father feel at home. His room was bright and sunny and the garden there is very pleasant. He got a lot of pleasure from the cats that are also resident. A serious safeguarding issue was swiftly and thoroughly dealt with in the most professional manner. The home kept me regularly updated on my father's progress and any (even very minor) incidents. They were happy for visitors to drop-by at any time and knowing that my father was in safe hands was a huge comfort to the family.

My aunt has been a resident for nearly two years. I live about 150 miles from Bedford and therefore visit infrequently. The home manager and staff telephone me often to keep me up to date with any incidents, changes in my Aunt's condition or material needs. When I telephone I have been given an immediate
report on her welfare. My visits have been entirely unannounced but I have been immediately shown up to her room where there has been a carer in attendance. My aunt has been clean and well dressed and the room is warm, clean and tidy.
The carers in attendance were kind and have a good relationship with my Aunt, who is not an easy character to deal with.
On arrival at Lillibet House, my aunt was severely underweight but has now returned to normal physical health.
My good impressions of the home have been reinforced by reports from visiting friends.
I would be happy to recommend the home to others.

Staff ignored me when I arrived, no greeting at all, no questions asked. No mention of how my uncle was, felt like I was in the wrong place.
I arrived to find my uncle, sitting in an uncomfortable chair with no buzzer available, no staff on this floor, no one around. Equipment left in the middle of
the room, was so old, it is a wonder it still being used.
Dinner, well that was the most disgusting plate of food I ever seen in my life. If you think a frozen chicken kiev, with gravy (so thin more like water), vegetables were colourless mush, and the mash potatoes slop. Other choice was faggots!!!!, are we in the war years again. For dessert tinned peaches. The food was left on the edge of a tray table, no one spoke to my uncle, just plonked it down, no serviettes, not asked if he needed anything cut up, mind you, he could not eat it anyway, but no concern from the staff at all.
Should not be allowed, when someone is frail and old, they need care , attention, kindness, did not exist .

Reply from Charlotte Chesyre, Proprietor at Lillibet House

It is disappointing that Mrs Burke did not speak to either the Manager or the Quality Manager as both were in the building on the day of her visit. Even more surprising that, in view of what she maintains occurred, she did not contact the duty Social work Team to raise these issues and her concerns.

In view of this, the accuracy of the comments remains questionable and as no communication or comments were received on the day, the option to investigate is, unfortunately, no longer available. However, to ensure complete transparency, we have passed these comments on to the residents placement Social worker.

Current Review Score: 8.2 (8.167)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.2 (8.167) out of 10 for Lillibet House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 1 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.2 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 5.000 for Lillibet House is calculated as follows: ( (12 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 12 Ratings = 5

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.167 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Lillibet House is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 6 = 0.167

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
