St Lukes is a purpose built home in the charming Caversham area of Reading, close to the village of Emmer Green and the picturesque village of Sonning.

St Lukes provides care for elderly residents. They offer several types of stay depending on the level of support required - from long-term residential care to short stay and respite breaks. The home benefits from a safe, comfortable environment called 'The Oaks' that specialises in the care of older people living with a dementia.

St Lukes is a purpose built home that has been tastefully furnished and equipped to a very high standard to provide accommodation in three neighbourhoods. Daffodil and Lilac areas are designed over one level and Oaks provides accommodation on two levels. Residents have a choice of lounge and dining areas throughout the home. There is a hair salon, activities room with computer and assisted bath and shower rooms have also been incorporated. There is easy access for residents to the landscaped gardens and walkways as well as shady, private courtyards.

Life at St Lukes is very much home from home and an active lifestyle is encouraged, with friends and relatives always welcome. The activities organiser arranges a varied social calendar of activities and entertainment in groups and on a one to one basis. St Lukes ensures that residents receive meaningful occupation tailored to who they are. The home has transport available for trips into the community and there is a weekly activities programme with monthly entertainment.

My mum was looked after for eight months in the wonderful St Luke's.
Mum was extremely happy and settled with the lovely, friendly and homely atmosphere.
All, staff are lovely, dedicated and hardworking from administration, carer's and nurses, a very big thank you for looking after my mum so well;
your kindness is so appreciated.


My mum now needs a nursing home, so it is with great sadness, she has to be moved, hoping that she will be looked after as well as your home.
I would certainly recommend this care home.

My sisters and I can only praise the care and genuine kindness displayed by the staff at St Luke's throughout our mother's two years as a resident. When she finally became seriously ill, and it was agreed, after consultation with us and her GP, that her care plan should be changed to 'end of life care',
nobody could have done more to make this difficult time easier for Mum and all of us. It was a particularly complex situation due to Covid restrictions, but we were kept informed throughout and, as we all live some distance from the home, we were forewarned in plenty of time when her condition worsened so that we could be with her in her last days. We can't thank St Luke's enough for looking after our Mum and providing a place where she felt safe and free of worry. She loved looking at the trees and the garden out of her window, and we had many telephone conversation about flowers or autumn leaves. This comes with a big 'thank you' to everyone from the kitchen to the senior staff.

The home has taken every step possible to keep our loved ones safe during this pandemic. I have weekly Skype calls with my mum which are priceless. She is so happy there and the staff are second to none. Definitely the best and safest place my mum could have ever been in. I would never hesitate to recommend
this home for a loved one. I live in Spain and haven't been able to visit since last March due to travel restrictions but because Mum is so well looked after she is very content which is a great weight off my shoulders.

Care is excellent. My only reservation concerns the food, which I felt was satisfactory, but perhaps more could be done to cater for my sister's, admittedly difficult, preferences. I realise that an institution cannot provide different menus for all the residents but perhaps her favourite (baked potatoes)
could have been provided more often.

She was at St Lukes for just a year. She was safe and looked after so well. She had company and she had care. The staff were lovely, both towards her and to us. Nothing was too much bother for them. I have nothing but admiration for everyone who works at St Lukes and during the dark months of the worst
of the pandemic, they upped their game even more.

My mum moved into St Lukes recently and is suffering from Alzheimer's. The transition into this care home was made a lot easier than we expected by the helpful and caring staff and mum seems to have settled in well.
Each time we visit, we are made to feel welcome and the staff always make a point
of chatting to us and updating on what mums been up to. Mums room appears clean and tidy which in the past has been a challenge with her.
We attended a relatives forum meeting this week and that was great to speak to other relatives with similar stories to ours and know we are not alone and not the only ones.
Thank you for helping us at this difficult time for the family.

My father has been a resident in St Lukes care home for a year now, he had a major move from Scotland which was very distressing for him but he is really happy now and never has any complaints about the staff. The staff and management have taken the time to get to know dad and his likes/dislikes. If
I ever have any concerns they are on hand to discuss and deal with anything promptly.


I attended a dementia training session in Feb 2019 for family members, the training was given by three senior members of staff. They taught us about the different types of dementia and related symptoms and how we should react or not react to situations. I was so touched by the level of care and work the team puts into ensuring all of the residents, very different, needs are met, it made me feel reassured that dad was in a safe caring environment.

St Lukes and The Oaks provides a calm, caring and often loving home for our elderly, frail and sometimes confused family members. The facilities are good but what really impresses are the staff members who show endless care, compassion and patience to those residents in their care as well as their visitors.
Their dedication to the safety, comfort and wellbeing of their sometimes challenging residents, is outstanding.

Our lovely Father unfortunately died yesterday in The Oaks dementia wing after suffering with stage 4 Lung Cancer and dementia. My sisters and I stayed with our Father in his last 24 hours in the home and wanted to express our thanks and appreciation to the overall care given to our Dad during his
4 week stay and extensive support and kindness from all staff in the home including some lovely dementia patients that also offered support and kindness to us. The level of care exceeded our expectations in a forever challenging environment. District nurse support and the Sue Ryder Palliative nurse support was wonderful too we received exceptional care for our father which meant that he had a peaceful end to his life. We will be ever grateful to the St Lukes', and The Oaks residential home.

The home is a little "shabby and worn" but the AMAZING STAFF "SHINE"! The care and kindness given to my mother have made a difficult situation bearable for her and us as a family. The meals are good with homely fare that gives choice and variety daily. Health matters are dealt with quickly and liaison
between home and family is good and efficient. The rooms are on the whole are well lit and comfortable but really do need an update! My one complaint is there is NO communal/individual/group interaction or activities to motivate or entertain the residents - but overall GOOD.

Peaceful atmosphere here on arrival. Greeted by friendly staff.


Mum was sitting in the lounge having a drink before lunch with other residents. Lovely clean and bright room. Mum is always treated with care and respect. All staff knock on her door before entering her room and call her by her name.

They show her love and care and all staff go out of their way to make it like home. Mum is very content.

My Mother moved in here in March this year. She has dementia and is slowly declining. I am delighted that we have been so fortunate to find a residence where the care she receives is excellent. The staff all go the extra mile to help her. They supply care with kindness and stimulation that is really
needed. The standard is very high and the staff give excellent support to families as well as residents. When I visited today I was delighted to find that a special bed had arrived to increase my mum's comfort. They really do think of everything. This disease is a difficult thing for all families but knowing loved ones have such good care makes the world of difference.

Kim Franks

Job Title: Home Manager

Kim has worked with B&M Care for nearly 33 years. She started in 1990 as a Care Assistant and worked her way up to Manager in 2000. She has developed through experience, training and qualifications, achieving Level 4 in Health & Social Care, Foundation Management in Care, The Registered Manager’s Award, and the ‘Leadership Matters in Person-Centred Care’ programme (accredited by the Alzheimer’s Society and Surrey University). She has a passion for delivering highly person-centred care to the elderly and in particular, those living with dementia, where she strives to create an environment that feels homely, safe and stimulating, benefitting the residents, their family, friends and staff.
