St Lukes is a purpose built home in the charming Caversham area of Reading, close to the village of Emmer Green and the picturesque village of Sonning.

St Lukes provides care for elderly residents. They offer several types of stay depending on the level of support required - from long-term residential care to short stay and respite breaks. The home benefits from a safe, comfortable environment called 'The Oaks' that specialises in the care of older people living with a dementia.

St Lukes is a purpose built home that has been tastefully furnished and equipped to a very high standard to provide accommodation in three neighbourhoods. Daffodil and Lilac areas are designed over one level and Oaks provides accommodation on two levels. Residents have a choice of lounge and dining areas throughout the home. There is a hair salon, activities room with computer and assisted bath and shower rooms have also been incorporated. There is easy access for residents to the landscaped gardens and walkways as well as shady, private courtyards.

Life at St Lukes is very much home from home and an active lifestyle is encouraged, with friends and relatives always welcome. The activities organiser arranges a varied social calendar of activities and entertainment in groups and on a one to one basis. St Lukes ensures that residents receive meaningful occupation tailored to who they are. The home has transport available for trips into the community and there is a weekly activities programme with monthly entertainment.

Over the last 6 months, the care for my Mother-in-Law has increased due to on-going health issues.


The staff are always aware if there is a change in Mum's health that requires support from a heath support team. It is very reassuring that there is 24/7 monitoring of Mum's health and wellbeing.


All

the staff constantly treat Mum with patience and empathy. At all times she is shown respect and care to ensure that she has the dignity and care that she deserves.


As well as Mum receiving support from the staff all our family are too.

My mother was a resident for nearly 18 months and passed away in the middle of July. The care she received was excellent and although she was of limited mobility, the staff were always there to encourage her in all activities. Our family felt that St Luke's offered the best place for mum. The home is
light, bright and airy and has lovely surroundings which are well maintained. When Mum became ill St Lukes's were able to provide end of life care for her so that she did not have to go into hospital, and for the family, this was such a blessing.
We are indebted to all the staff for this.

My mum has been a resident at St Lukes for the past 3 years. During this time she has received very good care. The staff are dedicated, professional and caring. They work as a team which maintains good standards and that is from management to domestic staff. Without that teamwork and dedication the
home would not run efficiently. Staff are not only friendly and caring to the residents, but to family and friends visiting.
There are no restrictions to visiting times. Any concerns are dealt with immediately or as soon as possible. Staff and management listen to concerns and put in place any measures that are needed or raised. The home has a very high standard of cleanliness, safety and security.

I visit my Great Aunt who is a resident at St Lukes on a regular basis. The home and staff are always welcoming and the decor is of a very high standard. My Great Aunt is always saying how caring and friendly the staff are and they have even put her to work as the homes post lady, which at nearly 90
she thinks is marvellous. In between her shifts as post lady she enjoys all activities and especially a lunchtime drink in the bar.

My mum went to St Lukes in January 2016. I think the care at St Lukes is very good. The activity lady is amazing, she really works hard to keep everyone entertained. The food is good, and good clean surroundings. From experience, if you do have a problem it is swiftly dealt with. I would recommend

We could not be more satisfied with the treatment my sister-in-law has been receiving. We no longer worry about her as she is so well looked after. She is always clean, well dressed and appears quite content as her condition gradually deteriorates.

Kim Franks

Job Title: Home Manager

Kim has worked with B&M Care for nearly 33 years. She started in 1990 as a Care Assistant and worked her way up to Manager in 2000. She has developed through experience, training and qualifications, achieving Level 4 in Health & Social Care, Foundation Management in Care, The Registered Manager’s Award, and the ‘Leadership Matters in Person-Centred Care’ programme (accredited by the Alzheimer’s Society and Surrey University). She has a passion for delivering highly person-centred care to the elderly and in particular, those living with dementia, where she strives to create an environment that feels homely, safe and stimulating, benefitting the residents, their family, friends and staff.
