Coombe House is a family run home and has been serving the local community for over 30 years. Care Quality Commission rated the home as "Outstanding" at its last inspection (April 2018).

It is located within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Streatley On Thames West Berkshire. The village of Goring On Thames is nearby, linked to Streatley by a bridge over the River Thames. There are picturesque views of the Swan Hotel, river, weirs and Goring Lock. This stunning location offers attractive views of the surrounding countryside and the Goring Gap.

Coombe House provides care for older residents who no can no longer live independently at home or who choose not to live alone. Sometimes getting older and living alone in your own home can be lonely and difficult, but at The Coombe House, they provide a homely secure and relaxed environment in lovely surroundings, with the highest standards of care based on the individual needs of residents. They offer holiday and respite care when they have an available room.

They benefit from having close links with the local community and being able to access two lively villages, providing many facilities and activities. There are nearby bus stops and a railway station with trains to Reading, London and Oxford. The M4 is 15 minutes by car.

We can't recommend this care home highly enough. The care is excellent; everyone is so friendly and kind. They have all been so brilliant the past few months as it has been difficult for everyone, but they have kept all their residents safe and well from covid. The food is always fresh and home-cooked
- excellent. A very homely care home.

The Coombe House continues to provide my Nan with outstanding care. Despite the enormous amount of stress they must have been put under with Covid-19, they have kept Nan safe and cared for whilst we couldn’t be with her and we felt so fortunate that Nan was being looked after by a team that genuinely
care for her and want the best for her, and us. Communication is great, so is the food and the environment is beautiful. All carers and management are dedicated, cheerful and kind. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend The Coombe.

I can’t thank everyone enough for the care they give my Dad. He has told me several times recently how good they are to him and that he is really well cared for. Following a recent hospital stay, he was looking forward to going ‘home’, which is how he views Coombe House.

Mum could not be better cared for than at Coombe House. She is safe, happy and comfortable, whilst being treated with respect and dignity. Her personal needs are taken care of to whatever level required at the time and she is able to interact with other residents or join in whatever activities she is
comfortable with. Cheerful, courteous, caring staff in a homely environment. Both Mum and the family are happy.

Having been asked to find a residential home in an area totally unfamiliar to me I could not be more impressed. Basically a home from home, but knowing my father in law is in a safe environment and very well cared for. The staff are absolutely delightful, motivational and caring. A real find!

Dad was reluctant to accept that at 93 he needed to go into a home but with me living nearly 300 miles away and my sister around 100, we could provide little local support, his neighbours had been wonderful since Mum died but they too are starting to age now!
Following a fall in early March we were
lucky enough to find a place at The Coombe House for him initially on respite but now on a permanent basis.
To start with, he was difficult and wanted to go home but did come to accept that this was the best place for him and that he could settle in. A huge part of this is down to the family atmosphere within the home and the kindness and care the staff show the residents.
Having not seen Dad since August, I was so pleased to see how well he is looking, better than he has done for years, now he has proper care and is eating properly.
This has taken a world of worry off mine and my sister's shoulders and I want to thank everyone at The Coombe House for this positive transformation in him.

I came to Coombe House about seven months ago. Although I am now 92, I have no experience of care homes, in fact, only once in my life have I had to stay in a hospital. The staff have been very attentive and I have been impressed with the opportunities afforded to residents such as outings and visiting
speakers. This shows that the staff are concerned to make Coombe House a really caring home.

I moved into The Coombe House six months ago and settled in quickly. I have a most comfortable room and I found the staff very friendly, sympathetic and efficient. The food is of a high standard. The residential home is very well run and all sorts of activities and outings are organised. The more fragile
residents are given most sympathetic care.

My mother has been at this residential care home for just over a year.
Considering her age, 93, she has rejuvenated.
She is extremely well cared for.
If she has any health problems they are dealt with promptly.
She has met new friends.
She does keep fit.
She has done flower arranging, silk painting
and had visits from the local school children.
She has delicious food and wants for nothing.

This care home has been amazing at looking after my Great Grandma, they are so loving and supportive of not only my Grandma but the whole family. The care home staff are always welcoming whenever we pop in for a cup of tea, lunch is almost always offered.

My mother moved into The Coombe House a year ago having lost my father and no longer able to live independently. As a family, we are so glad we chose The Coombe House. My mother was made to feel so welcome and staff at all levels have been sensitive to her needs. As a family, we visit on a regular basis.
The staff are all extremely friendly and nothing is too much trouble. I would have no hesitation in recommending The Coombe House. It is a real home from home.

My friend always seems content with her life at The Coombe House. I always find the staff friendly and chatty. They always welcome me with a cup of coffee and a homemade slice of cake. Looking for a suitable home for your parents care is a challenging and emotional experience. When we found Coombe House we felt comfortable that my Dad would settle in well and that he would be looked after by genuinely caring staff. Our experience at Coombe House has been nothing but positive and
whilst there have been challenges, they have been handled with care and empathy. I have no hesitation in recommending Coombe House as a lovely, family run care home where attention to detail and the care of the residents is central to everything that they do. I cannot praise the staff and management enough for making my Dad's transition from living independently to being looked after as comfortable and easy as possible.

I am always greeted with a warm and friendly welcome and offered a cup of tea. I am told how my ex-neighbour is feeling and if there are any health concerns. There is usually an activity going on- art, singing, handicraft, exercise etc in one of the main rooms. My friend enjoys going downstairs for
lunch and joins in conversation. She says the food is excellent and served beautifully at small tables in the dining room. She has enjoyed being taken out to a garden centre, a charity coffee morning and clothes shopping. The Coombe House has an atmosphere closer to a family home than a care home.

My father was very apprehensive about going into a care home but once he became a resident of Coombe House his anxieties quickly diminished.
The staff and management are all very welcoming, extremely friendly and very caring. I certainly feel that my father is being well looked after with his every
individual need being catered for. In the short time that my father has been at Coombe House his health and general well being have greatly improved.
The home cooked food is excellent and family and friends can join residents for meals. There are various activities throughout the week which residents can participate in should they wish to do so.
It is a small, friendly care home with a lovely atmosphere and one that I can rely upon and trust knowing that my father is very well cared for and in safe hands.

The Coombe House which is set in beautiful grounds and has the feel of a Country Hotel. On walking into the entrance hall, my first impression was that 'this residential home is very much alive'. The care and attention to detail exampled by the open attitude of the staff, homely food, flowers on the
tables in the dining room, reflect the thoughtfulness upon which The Coombe House was founded. The friendly staff always alert to the individual needs of the residents, have been wonderful in helping my father make the adjustment from living alone in his own house to being in a supportive environment. He has told me that he is 'very content' and has made is new accommodation very much his own abode. One question that I have asked myself is 'Could you see yourself living there?'. The answer is a very definite 'Yes'.
