The Donnington in Newbury focuses on round-the-clock support for a wide range of needs. Care provision includes nursing or residential care, convalescence and respite, as well as palliative care support and help for adults with Parkinson’s.

Residents can stay for a week, a month or longer– however long residents or loved ones need support. They’ll get to relax and meet new friends, giving families complete peace of mind. The home has a dedicated respite room that can be booked up to six months in advance, staff are happy to accept last-minute requests too.

With scenic countryside surroundings, this converted red-brick Victorian house offers comfortable social environments, light and airy lounges, en-suite bedrooms and on-site therapies.

The chef works hard to achieve a menu that pleases each resident, with all food home-cooked and nutritionally balanced.

Many activities and fulfilling pastimes are enjoyed within the house, including art classes and musical recitals, with summer fetes and other annual events adding further to home life.

The home is wonderful and clean, management is very caring and supportive of my needs. Staff no issues, the standard of food is good. Housekeeping and laundry all good, maintenance ok, and activities are good.

Due to the current times, we have not been able to go inside. The care we have had good porch visits and the staff have been wonderful. We feel happy and content with our Mums care; she's settled and happy.

Mum has settled into The Donnington really well. Although we have had some very pleasant visits in the porch, we are all Covid friendly. The staff are all lovely and friendly, and cannot do enough for Mum and the family.

Satisfactory taking into the fact that we are all coping with the period of lockdown and are unable to have precious contact with our close families. I fully appreciate this is beyond the control of any given reason other than the coronavirus restrictions, which affect us all.

My mother had been at the care home for five years. It started off extremely well and we were very happy. However, there were a large number of management changes in which caused some concern, luckily many members of staff did not give up and their kindness and care made up for other lacks. A well organised
and motivated care home manager was appointed this year and the care home has benefited enormously even in these very hard times with Coronavirus. I cannot praise the existing staff highly enough and will miss my visits.

The Donnington is a fantastic home with caring staff who go out of their way to help.

Mum went into Donnington, which we picked from a choice of three. We are glad we did. Staff have treated Mum with dignity and respect right from day one and still are. Management and nurses keep us informed on all developments regarding Mum and always treat us with politeness and respect. Mum is happy

The Fun Day was held in the garden with the music and refreshments creating a joyful afternoon for residents and visitors alike. Also, the visit from the teenagers on a weekly basis to spend time talking to the residents on an individual basis benefits all ages. The visit to the home of animals is equally
beneficial for the residents to stroke and see. These activities stimulate the residents and lovely to see them smile.

Following an unsettled period of management, the deputy manager has been an inspiration and consistent role model and invaluable support and truly lives the BUPA values about patient centred care. She is a truly significant asset who should be recognised and supported. My aunt's specific carers also
are amazing and work with compassion and empathy showing real respect and encouraging independence where possible My aunts family are also always shown genuine welcome and we have been able to develop a very open transparent line of communication which enables us to trust in the great care provided. The return of the previous manager for the interim along with the deputy inspires even more confidence and reassurance in this interim period. Thanks also to admin staff and support staff who all make things work as a team.

The Donnington is a good care home. The residents are well taken care of they have tea trolly after every 45 minutes. The rooms are clean as well. There is a teamwork especially in terms of emergency.

Despite the loss of a manager and secretary/bursar through appointments elsewhere, the home and staff (especially the deputy manager) have coped in an excellent manner to keep the home running smoothly. The staff have continued to work ceaselessly to continue their high standard of care and they are
almost fully staffed at the senior level.


If I could, I would book myself in now, for my future needs.


Highly recommended to several neighbours and friends.

My nan was sent to The Donnington from hospital in Nov 17. She had a lovely room and needed caring people as she is 92 years old. The place is warm and inviting and the staff were amazing. I brought my children to have lunch and everyone was so lovely and friendly. Thank you to all staff from the family.

My mother was in hospital towards the end of 2016 and was sent back to the home hoist only and catheterised, she wouldn't eat or drink.
If it hadn't been for the outstanding care of the carers/nurses/staff and them persevering to get her to drink and eat I am quite sure we would have lost her.
They
continue to astound me with their caring ways and I know she is in good hands and safe.
If I get half the quality of care that mum's had I shall die a happy man.
