Set within an idyllic eight acres of beautiful Buckinghamshire countryside, Chesham Bois Manor offers the serenity and exclusivity of a traditional manor house, surrounded by beautifully manicured gardens.

Chesham Bois Manor offers a choice of spacious lounge and dining areas, and a traditional manor library room which is ideal for families wanting to host a special party or event in a safe and supported environment. Bedrooms are all single occupancy with en suite bathroom facilities. All bedrooms can be personalised with individual home comforts, which is actively encouraged by the homes dedicated team.

The original manor house has been tastefully extended to create a purpose-built, specialist and secure community, enabling tailored and holistic care for all stages of dementia progression. This courtyard style environment boasts safe, enclosed gardens and an indoor 'walking path' which promotes mobility and independence in all weather.

The beautiful gardens and natural woodland area at Chesham Bois Manor offer tranquil surroundings, with easy access pathways and plenty of space for outdoor activities and events in the warmer months. The newly added 'Primrose Cottage' provides an additional space for residents to enjoy some peace and independence, without having to leave the security of the manor grounds. The cottage is fully equipped with a kettle, fridge, comfortable sofas, a television, DVD player and radio.

The home's specialist Engagement Lead coordinates a varied calendar of social activities, entertainment and meaningful occupation suited to individual interests and abilities. The home also has its own transport available for making individual or group outings to places of interest. A regularly updated private 'relatives and friends' social page helps keep families informed with news and photographs from loved ones at the manor. The home also offers a video call service and access to iPads.

My husband was only at Chesham Bois for 2 weeks respite to see how he coped as he is partially sighted and has poor hearing as well as dementia. The staff were great and very kind to me as this was a difficult decision with a view to being a permanent resident. He settled well after a few days and seemed
really happy.

Mum was 97 when she went into Chesham Bois Manor and was looked after there for nearly four years until mum died on 9th March 2017 the care mum received in the home was in my mind excellent nothing was too much trouble and always 100% dedication by all the staff in the way mum was looked after.

My mother lived in this care home - said to specialise in dementia care - for about a year before sustaining a fall and being admitted to hospital, whereupon we moved her elsewhere.
During her residence, she seemed to be well liked by the staff, many of whom were very supportive. Unfortunately, some
did not seem to know how to persuade a dementia patient to perform the basics, e.g teeth brushing or hand washing and the family had to constantly remind the staff of the need to monitor these routine tasks. This was disappointing and the manager seemed unable to improve the situation, despite repeated requests.

The residents suffer from dementia. The staff treat them all with love, care and respect. They have en suite bedrooms and accommodation consisting of lounges, dining rooms and conservatory with access to a courtyard area and patio which are pleasant and welcoming. Items of interest are displayed in
the corridors e.g. wedding dress, hats, scarves, dressing table with contents, piano. Activities are offered and social occasions organised.

Staff always prepared to help - but seem reactive as opposed to pro-active. Staffing levels low at times. Rooms very dark and dreary. Decor tired and needing vast improvement. Gardens always well kept.

My mother died on the 16th June. Although I live 150 miles away, I was kept informed all the way which allowed me and my son to visit her a couple of days before she died. I shall always appreciate this, plus being told someone was with her as she died. Prior to her death, she'd been so well looked
after and I was immediately informed of every little cough, infection or fall. Plus as I have a mental health illness, this was always taken into consideration.

Chesham Bois Manor has a very friendly and homely atmosphere and is surrounded by lovely gardens. The management and carers are all so very professional and helpful, making sure each resident is given help with their own personal individual needs. They made my mother feel very welcome and were very
kind and reassuring to me. All the staff working at the home are cheerful, kind and helpful to both residents and their family and friends.

I have been volunteering for 4 hours on a Tuesday morning for the past 3 months. I really enjoy it. I love the residents and spending time with them. The staff are all very caring and clearly want the best for all the residents. They show care and love to them all.

In my experience, the carers do their best and are friendly and helpful.

All I would say is that when I needed to use the wheelchair to take the resident out, the brakes didn't work, the catch to fold the handles back was broken and one of the rest catches wasn't working - so one or two new wheelchairs

wouldn't go amiss.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.576)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.576) out of 10 for Chesham Bois Manor is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.738 for Chesham Bois Manor is calculated as follows: ( (82 Excellents x 5) + (22 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 107 Ratings = 4.738

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.838 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Chesham Bois Manor is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 48 registered maximum number of service users is 9.6. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 9.6 = 0.938

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
