Rayners, which was purposely built and developed in 1990 to suit older people's care needs and makes the most of a skilled and friendly team in order to achieve a very high level of customer satisfaction.

Rayners is still family-owned and managed and is operated by the Matthews family and not part of a care homegroup.

Each of the 44 single bed suites at Rayners, including bathrooms, toilets and lounge areas have large picture windows, television, telephone point, complimentary wi-fi and an emergency nurse call system installed. There are no set visiting hours and visitors are encouraged at all times.

Self-contained luxury 'assisted living apartments' have been added within the grounds of Rayners. These offer emergency 24-hour support for those who require the reassurance, security and back up of a care home, without having to enter a communal living setting.

Professionals at Rayners know that social activity is important and therefore publish a newsletter detailing varied activities and events for the forthcoming month. They encourage suggestions from residents/relatives relating to the high-class service they offer and have a 'suggestion box' on reception for this purpose.

Rayners kitchens are fitted with all the latest equipment to ensure that residents receive high quality, well-balanced meals prepared in ultra-hygienic surroundings, by qualified and experienced chefs.

The staff take great pride in their catering services and very proud to announce that they do not set budgets on food costs, whilst still supporting local trades to supply the catering team. All fresh meat is supplied by a local butcher, Kings Farm Shop in Wendover.

Rayners is situated in a tranquil setting in the Chiltern Village of Hyde Heath. They are close to the M40, M25 and M1 motorways, making it accessible for visiting.

Mum spent what what turned out to be the last year of her life at Rayners. I don't know how to express in words the kindness of the staff, the care and dignity with which Mum was treated and the support given to us as Mum's health deteriorated. It's not just the excellence of the food and variety of
the activities, though both were amazing. It is in the way each resident is loved and cared for as an individual. I had always intended to bring Mum home when end of life care began, but when the time did come, I realized she already was.

After a month's stay in hospital for my mum, we needed her to convalesce and felt Rayners would be the perfect place for her. We weren't wrong. Mum is now back home and better than she has been in a long time and that is thanks to all staff at Rayners. The encouragement and care they showed her has

Our mother recently went to Rayners for a two-week period of convalescence at Rayners after a spell in hospital. This was her first experience with residential care and we are all extremely happy with the care she received. She was very well looked after (day and night) and had a happy time there. She
enjoyed the activities and felt at home very quickly. She told me about a Sunday morning 'sherry party' tai chi classes, manicures, quiz times and bingo as well as the luxury of in-house hairdressing. She loved the meals, regaling me with stories of grilled trout, steaks and interesting puddings.
If it weren't for the fact that her little dog was waiting for her at home, I think she would have been eager to stay much longer! Many thanks to everyone for taking such good care of our precious mother. My brother and I were able to relax in the knowledge that she was in capable and kind hands.

Our mum was a resident at Rayners from February 2022 until her death in October of that year. From the start, we were so impressed with the level of care and the attention to detail given by all staff and the numerous little kindness they showed to mum throughout her stay. In her words everyone here
is so lovely and kind - they make me feel safe - and for us, her family, that was very comforting to hear. As her appetite decreased efforts were made to find foods to tempt her - and staff did all they could to encourage her to eat. It was such a delight to Mum and to us when staff just popped into the room to see how she was doing and say something cheery and kind. We cannot praise all those who touched Mum's daily life enough - they made all our lives better - thank you to each and every one of you.

Mum spent more than 2 years at Rayners before she sadly died at the end of October 2022. During this time she was so well looked after and it was a comfort and relief to our family to know this. Nothing was too much trouble and the staff always had time for her and us as well which was important as
we all accepted Mum could not live at home any more. She loved the food and all the attention given to her. She loved to look smart and have her hair done every week and this made her happy, helping her to accept that this was her home. Rayners efforts to keep residents, staff and family safe from Covid for more than 2 years have been exemplary, under very different and difficult circumstances. We appreciate everything they did very much.

From the time our mum moved into Rayners she was made welcome and comfortable. All the staff made an effort to find commonality and to chat with her. She adored the food which was always of a very high standard and, later when she had extreme difficulty eating and swallowing, the food was made easier
to manage. Shortly after she moved in, she celebrated her 101st birthday, and the family joined her for a glass of bubbly and an enormous birthday cake - and we posed for photos with some of the staff! During Covid, it was very hard not to be able to visit Mum but we had video phone virtual visits. The restrictions kept everyone safe and we really appreciate the high standards of care and vigilance. As visitors, we were always welcomed. The home is kept beautifully clean and the dining area looks like a lovely restaurant with fresh flowers. We are so grateful for the care Mum received and would not hesitate in recommending Rayners. The staff are absolutely brilliant. Thank you so much.

My grandmother has been staying at Rayners since the end of May 2022, and they have gone above and beyond to look after her, to make her feel at home. The staff are always very attentive and caring, and there is always an array of activities every week to keep her occupied. The food is also excellent,
as she always tells me whenever I see her! I always feel relieved every time I leave after visiting, knowing my grandmother is in safe hands and will always be looked after. Thanks to Rayners and the team.

Our mother lived at Rayners for three years before she passed away in September 2022. She absolutely loved living there and my sister and I have nothing but praise and thanks for the wonderful love and care shown to her. Every member of staff is so kind and friendly and they would help her to decide
on an outfit to wear each day and made sure she had her favourite earrings on too. Mum felt very safe and looked after. She liked to go into the dining room for lunch to chat to her friends and join in with some of the activities on offer and for walks around the beautiful gardens. The compassion shown to mum in her last days as she became very poorly was truly wonderful and we are immensely grateful to everyone in Rayners for all they did for mum. We would have no hesitation in recommending Rayners to anyone looking for an excellent care home for their relatives.

Mum chose to move into Rayners over five years ago. Rayners became part of our family, and we'll miss them! Even more, Rayners became part of Mum's family. She felt content and safe; an overriding memory and great comfort to us was that whenever we were going to be away Mum would always say, "you don't
need to worry about me because I'm being well looked after here." The love and care that was demonstrated to Mum were immense, particularly in the last couple of weeks of her life when Mum became poorly. It was beautiful as we spent time with her to see cleaners and carers come into Mum's room before they went home to see how she was - I guess because they wondered if she would still be with us when they returned to work. That was so moving! From cleaners to administrators, carers and managers, kitchen and laundry staff, Rayners demonstrate a great, loving and caring team. Thank you for enabling Mum to live well for the last years of her life.

Rayners provided my Dad with a superb home for the last four and a half years. Given he only need help with cooking and cleaning, he chose an assisted living apartment which gave him independence whilst making sure that he ate very healthily and he always had company. Importantly, he could choose to
dine in the main dining room or have meals in his apartment, depending on his mood, although he always looked forwards to getting together with friends over lunch or dinner and setting the world to rights. The apartment was beautiful and carers would visit multiple times each day to check on him and make sure everything was tidy and organised, always spending time to chat with him and not just bustle in and out. He loved taking part in the events (and organising a few) and all of the staff were very caring and formed a true bond with the residents. The home also went the extra mile to give value for money and the only downside was that it was not on a bus route, but they organised lifts into town.

Rayners looked after my mother for 18 months and we always felt that all the staff were caring and patient. Her room was always clean and she always looked smart. She always said that the food was good.

We did much research before choosing Rayners for the care of my mother. They were so superior to other local care homes for a great number of reasons and the care and service that my mother received in the several years she was resident was never less than exemplary, especially as her health worsened
towards the end of her life.


The management and staff were always extremely accommodating to my mother's needs and to our requests as a family. Nothing was ever too much trouble. We were always given private space to get together as the extended family to celebrate birthdays and Christmas and these occasions have given us some happy memories. We always enjoyed the Rayners Christmas party, too.


The wellbeing of the residents is paramount, manifest in quality entertainment, activities and home comforts such as hairdressing. The house and gardens are always a delight and are a key factor in the general ambience.


All in all there is too little to fault. Thank you so much Rayners.

I cannot thank the staff and management enough for all their devoted care towards her and I would certainly recommend Rayners

We have found this care home to be efficient and professionally run in a kind and caring way. Staff are friendly and interested and work hard to meet the needs of the residents. They are supportive and communicate well with residents and each other so that issues/needs/requests are known and dealt with
promptly. There are high standards of cleanliness etc. The staff are always welcoming.

Initial contact friendly and helpful. The initial visit welcoming and thorough. Visited daily always uplifting atmosphere. The staff very responsive nothing is too much trouble. Activities are often going on. The room is very pleasant onto well-kept garden.

I have genuinely reflected on each of the criteria which you use to rate care homes and I can confirm that in each case this Home deserves an ‘excellent’ rating. It’s not just that I had good experiences on most days, with only a few days where the service was not ‘excellent’. Every single experience
for each of the criteria earned an ‘excellent’ rating, which is a sign of the true quality built into Rayner’s performance. I was in Rayners for two weeks ‘respite care’. I am quite frail, but the specific care needs I had was dealing with my suprapubic catheter; which, characteristically, develops problems with kinking in the tube, causing real discomfort. One-touch of the switch by my bed, day or night, and someone came running. I could cite other examples of their exceptional care.
