The atmosphere, environment, staff and garden are very warm, welcoming, open and inviting. My father has had a few teething problems with medicine, laundry, personal care etc, but these have been resolved with the utmost care and attention. It's great that visitors and pers are welcome anytime and always
offered refreshments etc, and welcomed with a smile. We are very happy with the variety of food, activities and place to sit, eat, relax, etc. Communication with clients from Sir Aubrey Ward and the council could be better. Very sporadic and unclear, quite stressful.

I have been very impressed with the efforts that the staff have gone to in order to care for my mother recently as she has been unwell. This is particularly with regard to enabling her to see her great-grandchildren that she has seen little of over the last two years

Our mother had been in Sir Aubrey Ward for 21-months and was recently placed on end of life care. I cannot fault the dedication of the carers throughout Mum's time at Sir Aubrey Ward. Their dedication, empathy, commitment and care was experienced (and witnessed) in the last week of Mum's life; her daughters
were offered immense support from management and carers alike. A dedicated team!

There have been more than seven managers in the last seven years. Each one with a new set of promises.
Staff turnover and reliance on agency workers has always and continues to be very high.

We continue to focus on recruitment and I am pleased to say that our reliance on agency staff has been significantly reduced since January 2021. I appreciate that the changes in management have been quite disruptive and the Trust is working hard to select the right candidate to support our residents and the team here at Sir Aubrey Ward. We continue our open lines of communication with residents and relatives and host regular relatives meetings, where we provide updates about the home in general as well as sharing updates about the team. My mum was allocated a place at Sir Aubrey Ward in November 2020, and I could not be more happy with the care and support we are both given. Obviously, these are very trying times for residents, carer’s and relatives, and my mum and I have been fully supported throughout. I have been constantly updated
and kept informed about Mum and able to visit in accordance with Covid-19 protocols. I have been sent photos of Mum when they have events, and had to comment she was having more of a social life than most of us!

This place treated my father really badly. I was appalled by their behaviour and conduct during the coronavirus lockdown when my father was denied access to communication with his family, but they had an inability to facilitate a simple phone call despite many requests. He had been used to visits
almost every day from his family up until that point. They failed to follow their own contract and caused the family as well as my father emotional stress and anxiety when they tried to refuse to allow him back to his home after an A&E visit. We were desperately trying to move him to another home, but that was very difficult at that time. In hindsight, I wish I had just ignored the lockdown and driven the 2 hrs to get to Marlow and taken him away. We never said anything at the time because we were terrified that he would be treated worse.
The psychological damage caused by the lockdown was great to my father and it still didn't protect him from catching coronavirus and dying.

Communicating and connecting our residents with their families were elements that we focused during the lockdown period and this was supported with Video-calls and telephone calls when this was possible for a resident and while the capacity of the home allowed us. The safety of all our residents has always been our primary objective thus every decision for admission into our Home has been formed and assessed individually. My darling mum has been a resident at Sir Aubrey Ward for over three years and we have always been delighted with the care she has received.
During these unprecedented times, I felt compelled to write another review, highlighting the thoughtful and caring way the staff have dealt with the difficulties
arising from the lockdown.
They have facilitated video calls, phone calls and visits “through the window”, so that as far as possible we relatives have had reassurance that our loved ones are safe, well and that they remember us and know we love and miss them.

There have been breaches of security, with Mother leaving the home unsupervised.
More recent weeks have noted a lack of internal security with Mother wandering the garden, middle of the night, through unlocked doors. That's a breach of both health and safety as well as security again.

We were impressed with Sir Aubrey Ward when we viewed. We were aware of it's CQC situation. It appeared to be improving with improved processes according to the manager.
Staff and carers are very dedicated to residents and conscious of individual needs. Some shortcomings are still evident within management,
particularly access to and from the premises eg foyer (safety and security). Document administration re: communication between staff, carer, management should be improved. General finance matters are good. The house is well maintained and food very well suited to meet resident's preferences.

I accompanied my partner who is a resident at Aubrey Ward to the High Wycombe pantomime. The whole outing was managed efficiently and with gentle care. We travelled by minibus which accommodated the wheelchairs and walkers. The home provided a delicious packed lunch which was served to all residents
and also carers. The whole afternoon was delightful and all went well managed by staff with care and consideration for everyone.

My mother entered Sir Aubrey Ward House when it opened suffering from Alzheimer's. During this time she has been looked after by staff who have exceeded expectations in their diligence and compassion as she is now entering the final days of her life. All categories of staff pop in to see her breaking
up the days and offering words of comfort to me. Late Friday night a staff member went out to get medication for her. I think that says it all.

I have a friend and neighbour who was suffering from lack of nutrients in the food she was given, leaving her weak and anaemic and in hospital receiving a blood transfusion and iron tablet. She was having 24 hour home care but she was depressed and not sleeping. Finally, she asked to go into a care
home. Sir Aubrey Ward House ticked all the boxes and was affordable. The manageress of the home paid her a home visit. This discussion reassured my neighbour that moving there would be good for her, good food that she would enjoy; company; security 24 hours a day; all her needs met; warm. A week later I helped her to move her to her new home. When I paid her a visit 3 days later the change in her was clear, from a grey, elderly woman sitting in a chair at home, to a bright well-groomed lady, in her colourful clothes and black patent shoes, sitting in the common room taking in all the hustle and bustle of the people around her. She introduced me to her new friends who were around her and they chatted about life at Sir Aubrey Ward House until they suddenly all stood up, said it was lunchtime. They said lunch was very good here, one lady said she was going on a diet as she was putting on weight! Sir Aubrey Ward House is the beginning, I hope, of many more happy years for my friend and neighbour. Many thanks to the management and staff who take the time to make them feel a whole person again.

Lovely place very friendly efficient happy staff. The rooms kept clean and tidy. Rest of the care home is spotless. The food is excellent. Activities lots of them and very well organised. Our mother moved into Sir Aubrey Ward House a little under a year ago when her dementia made it impossible for her to remain at home. We visited 12 homes in the local area and selected this one primarily because of its caring ethos. It is friendly, informal, and homely, with staff who have clearly been
selected for their empathy. Also, as a charitable trust, they do not have a profit motivation, so no measuring of care needs by the minute!
The new manager has tightened up the systems and procedures, as picked up by the CQC assessment, without compromising the informal and caring culture, which give the home its character.
Our mum is contented, safe, well-fed/watered, and well cared for. Always well turned out and treated with dignity, humour and affection. Her key worker knows Mum's needs as well as the family, and Mum is very fond of her. Mum enjoys in-house activities and is able to get out and about on trips.
Family and friends are all totally satisfied and enjoy visiting her.
