White Plains is a purpose-built care home set in eight acres of manicured gardens in Denham, Buckinghamshire. Overlooking the village’s aerodrome, the home benefits from two living environments, newly-refurbished facilities, and a team of staff that work under B&M Care’s ‘Rose Model of Dementia Care’ – a unique approach to dementia care that looks at engaging, empowering and flourishing an individual who lives in the home’s care.

One of the home’s newest features is White Rose Cottage: a quintessential cottage situated in White Plains’ ‘Woodland Walk’. Characterised by a thatched roof and a traditional interior, the cottage is used not only as an area to provide engagement for residents, but can be hired by relatives to host occasions and celebrations.

White Plains has been awarded an overall ‘Outstanding’ rating [CQC: May 2019] for their commitment to celebrating an individual’s uniqueness, as well as using a person’s history and interests to provide meaningful occupation.

White Plains offers the following types of care for an older person: 24-hour long-term residential & specialist dementia care, as well as respite & convalescence care.

My mother moved to White Plains on 2/5/16 following a long stay in the hospital. Mum was no longer able to care for herself, take medication, regularly eat properly or put herself to bed. However, with the gentle constant care of the manager and her staff, she has become a person again. She looks cared
for and well (with hair and nails done too!) at home. The daily activities help to keep her mind active whereas she simply sat in a chair before not even watching TV. The 24-hour care is a great relief to us as she is unsteady on her feet as well as the problems mentioned above, her falls have put her in the hospital several times. White Plains is a place where I would be happy to live, it's peaceful countryside location, excellent facilities and staff are reminiscent of a lovely hotel.

My mother has been a resident at White Plains for just over two years. She is very happy and receives excellent care there. I am always greeted with a warm welcome from the staff and the overall appearance of White Plains is clean and attractive. When the weather is good, it is lovely sitting in the
garden. Since my mother has been at White Plains, I am much more relaxed knowing that she is in good hands and that if there should be a problem, I would be informed. When she lived independently, I used to worry about her most of the time. She has company now and the opportunity to join in the activities.

I could not have ended up in a better care home. When it was time to find a care home I deliberately chose White Plains because it is run by someone I had met some years before in a home where my wife who has since passed away was staying with dementia and I soon recognised her special qualities of
empathy and care. As I suspected before coming she would have selected staff with the same qualities, and I have long realised that the qualities are more important to a resident than the state of the building. In fact the rooms and grounds and facilities are all that one could desire.

A very clean home with staff who care. The manager is very much a hands-on manager.

My aunt has been at White Plains for 6 or 7 years and ahs been looked after very well. She is now 99 and sadly had a dizzy spell in her room and fell over. The staff found her and after a while decided to call an ambulance she was taken to the hospital and we were finding it very difficult to get her
out although there was nothing seriously wrong. Successive Doctors rather than release her kept deciding on yet another diagnostic. After a week largely spent in bed my aunt was not doing well. I cannot praise the head of the home enough for her barrage of encouragement to release her and have her back in the home which she applied to the matron and other staff at the hospital. It worked and largely thanks to her that my aunt is back at home and recovering from the hospital stay.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.520)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.520) out of 10 for White Plains Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.811 for White Plains Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (77 Excellents x 5) + (18 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 95 Ratings = 4.811

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.709 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for White Plains Care Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 44 registered maximum number of service users is 8.8. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.8 = 0.909

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
