I had been assisting my partner to find a suitable care home for their elderly mother when we came upon Windsor Lodge Care Home. From the outset, I was impressed by the wonderful landscaped garden setting accessed by a security gate via an intercom. The home itself is set amidst the gardens with parking
to one side. We were warmly greeted by the manager and given a complete tour of the home, meeting the staff and a couple of the residents. The staff are very attentive to the residents and obviously very caring of their needs and wants, and this place feels safe, comforting and how a home should be. The manager lives close at hand is very passionate about the care and happiness of the residents. What a wonderful place!

Windsor Lodge Care Home continues to provide consistently first-rate care and attention to my mum. Whenever I take Mum out for a visit or to lunch she is alert and communicative, a sure sign that she is stimulated by her environment there. It is a relief to know that Mum is receiving regular medical
checkups and treatment and to receive feedback. All staff are lovely personalities and are always cheerful and positive. I have no negative comments to make and I know that Mum is very lucky to be living at Windsor Lodge.

I love it here as I am well looked after and have made new friends. My best friend sits next to me and we chat daily.

Reply from Debbie Dry, Manager at Windsor Lodge Care Home

It's lovely to hear from a resident themselves, how they value the care that staff provide. It also shows that people can make friendships in care homes. Thank you.

Care provision is good. Accommodation is tired. Food does not meet my needs; lack of variety.

Reply from Debbie Dry, Manager at Windsor Lodge Care Home

I am pleased that this lady and her family feel she is very well cared for and she feels safe and supported in the home. We are not a purpose-built, dementia care facility and staff feel this is reflected in some of the judgements. However, we believe in striving for excellence and will work to improve this result.

My Aunt has been at Windsor Lodge for several years and has been so happy. It is a small home with wonderful, caring staff and it's like family. Even through the past year, they have been able to spend so much time out in the beautiful landscaped gardens. I would highly recommend it.

Windsor Lodge is a very special place and home from home for my elderly aunt. The manager goes above and beyond to ensure the very best care is delivered by her lovely staff. The staff are well trained and well managed, which means staff turnover is very low, which ensures my aunt is cared for by the
same team. The tasty food is homecooked, and there's plenty of activities. I cannot rate Windsor Lodge highly enough.

My mum enjoys living at the home. She feels safe and loves her room, is offered choices of food and the staff are very kind and polite and treat her with dignity. She is offered choices of activities but prefers bingo. The management is always involved with what is best for my Mum which reassures me
greatly. I cannot fault the home, staff and management's dedication towards my mum. She is very happy here which makes me happy.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.433)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.433) out of 10 for Windsor Lodge Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.933 for Windsor Lodge Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (56 Excellents x 5) + (4 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 60 Ratings = 4.933

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Windsor Lodge Care Home is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 9 registered maximum number of service users is 1.8, which has been reached with 5 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Senior Carer

After school I worked in a local nursing home as a laundry/kitchen assistant. I enjoyed the home environment and went to college to study Health & Social Care Level 3.

After I qualified I started a job as a carer locally but wanted more experience so joined Windsor Lodge when they had a vacancy. First I was a carer and now I am a Senior Carer, as I wanted to take on more responsibilities.

I enjoy supporting staff to provide the best care for all our residentsand on management days I can spend more time with residents to make sure they are happy with the care they receive.

Job Title: Activity Co-ordinator

I have worked at Windsor Lodge for 15 years. After working as a receptionist with DHL, I wanted more flexible hours to look after my children, so I started a s a Carer at Windsor Lodge. I love looking after older people assist them in being independent and enjoying life. Then in 2017, an opportunity arose for a part-time activity co-ordinator in the home and I got the job!

I have completed my Level 2 Health & Social Care and Chair-Based Exercise Course.

I love finding out the residents’ hobbies and interests and then tailoring our monthly activity planner to what they want.
