My son has been in 9 Twyford Lane for a number of years. He is very happy there, it's like being in a family for him. All the staff are caring and look after his needs very well which can be challenging from time to time. I cannot thank them enough for everything they do! Gives us great peace of mind
to know he is properly cared for. Very grateful to you all. Thank you very much

At Twyford Lane we pride ourselves on ensuring that everyone feels like this is a family unit, ultimately this is their home. We appreciate the difficulties for both the people that we support and their family members in comprehending being away from the comforts of a family environment, thus we ensure we provide all the comforts and care that we can, whilst maintaining dignity, care, inclusion and choice.

My relative has been resident at this establishment for many years and we have always been impressed with the service they provide. The staff have made enormous efforts to keep the clients occupied, entertained and happy during their confinement within the establishment during the Covid lockdown, while
going to great lengths to keep themselves Covid-free for the clients' protection.

It is great to see appreciation for maintaining a Covid free environment. It has been a difficult 18 months for the people that we support, however, keeping their spirits up was/is paramount. It is key to always listen to everyone as individuals and we tailored planners to reflect this.

The staff are genuine. They are very loyal to the service users. They are a big family. Very low turnover. It is an extremely difficult job. They are all very positive. My friend has been a resident for over 20 years. The service has developed over this time. They bend over backwards to keep him engaged
and safe.

Lovely to see that you feel as a whole, staff encompasses service users with their needs and wishes. Within a supported living setting, service users are always encouraged to live life to their fullest potential, whilst maintaining safety. Staff turnover is as you mentioned ‘very low’ at Twyford Lane, this I feel is evidence of the values that The Disabilities Trust hold within our staff.

Following the death of our Mother, who had been a primary carer, my Brother has now been resident at this facility for a number of years. He has always been treated with respect and supported to lose (a lot of) weight and to stay motivated about this through regular "healthy lifestyles" work. The staff
team routinely go the "extra mile" to make sure that my brother is able to follow his own choices as far as is possible. The staff team seem well supported by management to support a wide range of people who can have complex and challenging needs due to their brain injuries. This is certainly true of their support to my brother who has an acquired Brain Injury, and the staff team work closely with us as a wider family to ensure that his needs continue to be met both at the care home and in the community. The team also have access to professional psychological and OT support, which has also proved invaluable in supporting my brother with his ongoing mobility and loss issues.

At the Disabilities Trust, we pride ourselves on the support and care that we provide to our service users. Our service users are always treated with the dignity and respect they deserve and it is lovely to see that this is reflected to family members. Family members are additionally key to the support and care their family members receive, therefore paramount family additionally have a voice.

Staff are very polite, hard-working and conscientious. They always have time to sort out any issues there may be. There are no onsite amenities and there is a general lack of activities in the local area i.e. no coffee shop or meeting places.

Reply from Tina Tupper, Service Manager at 9 Twyford Lane

Thank you for your review. We do offer onsite amenities, but unfortunately have not been able to whilst Covid restrictions are in place. The area offers a variety of places within a mile from Twyford Lane including Fish & Chip shop, Betting Shop, Chinese Takeaway, Indian Restaurant which provides a takeaway service, Charity shop, Chemist, Kebab & Pizza shop, a small supermarket with a Post Office in situ, Hair Salon, Doctors Surgery, a public house, which serves food and has an outside seating area. Additional social amenities are available within a couple of miles of the service, which include many shops, cafes, hairdressers and barbers, opticians, dry cleaners, a gallery and a library.
