The staff at Willowmead really care about the residents. We have always found my father to be looked after and cared for and the staff to be friendly and approachable. I think the staff work very, very hard and need more support and more staff for the number of residents.

My mother has been a resident at Willowmead for approximately two months and I am confident she is getting the best care.
After a difficult time coping with her immobility and advanced dementia, whilst caring for her at home, I had to make the heartbreaking decision that she needed professional twenty
four hour care.
Willowmead provides wonderful, sympathetic, professional care and I am one hundred percent confident when I leave after visiting.
All the staff in Wyckham House are friendly and welcoming, for which I think them.

Visited a friend at Willowmead yesterday and was very impressed with the home and all aspects of Care.
I worked at Willowmead when it was called another name, and standards were so low I had to report to Social Servies (before c.q.c).
Even relatively recently I attended the home as a Community First
Responder and although there had been some improvements as ownership had changed still observed poor care, and the smell of urine was very strong throughout the home.
Yesterday though all had changed, staff were lovely, residents happy.
Dining room bright, clean and inviting. Lounge nice too,

As you enter the building it smells of urine badly.
Staff seem fine and caring is fine.
TV on all the time - no one watches it - hard to have conversation.

Reply from Duncan Smith, Regional Manager at Willowmead Care Home

We appreciate the feedback received and had already acted on ordering and implementing suitable solutions before this feedback was posted.
In the affected area, the carpet has been replaced with an appropriate floor covering which is much more suitable, easier to maintain and everything smells so much fresher now.
The lounge has also been changed around which creates even more room for activities and for those residents who enjoy the TV they can watch it without having to compete with the activities that provide popular resident engagement. Most importantly, the residents love the changes and they give the home a larger space with providing more engagement with our residents.

The hospital brought me here as I was ready to go home but I didn't have a home at the time. I was intending to stay in a hotel while looking for somewhere to rent. I didn't in the end have to find a hotel as I was brought here which in the end was a truly caring hotel. Will be sad to leave.

Current Review Score: 8.4 (8.360)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.4 (8.360) out of 10 for Willowmead Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.7 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.652 for Willowmead Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (33 Excellents x 5) + (10 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 46 Ratings = 4.652

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.708 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Willowmead Care Home is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 12 = 0.333

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
