Staff provided very high standards of care with several individuals offering outstanding support to my dad. The latter included staff who were responsible for organizing activities and some of the managers who were extremely caring and also very responsive to the residents' needs. My dad retained his
astute mind throughout his life and some staff went out of their way to take him on special trips to, e.g, music concerts or to assist him with his Kindle. My father was profoundly aware that staff were often operating under very tight constraints, for example, the impact of centralised decision-making which hampered efforts to respond swiftly to local incidents such as electrical failures or plumbing problems at BH. Similarly, the quality of the food, although initially good was, in recent years, of much poorer quality: tight budgets and central supply systems were responsible for this. Since I lived over 150 miles away I was grateful that my dad felt safe and secure where he lived.

Bradbury House has had no oven for a good few weeks. It's disgusting as the staff are trying to manage a hot and healthy meal for the residents without a complete way of cooking, so the staff are under stress about trying to provide a hot healthy meal which is desperately needed to keep residents as
healthy as possible and for them to be given something tasty and hot and appetising, as it is a struggle to get some residents to eat anyway. This needs urgent action and we don't blame any of Bradbury House' staff. The staff are making the effort to do the best they can and have, in their own time, made food at home to bring in which they have cooked.

At Bradbury House we take great pride in ensuring we deliver high-quality care and facilities meeting all residents’ requests and needs. Please be assured that while we awaited the new oven and obligatory changes to the ventilation system, residents continued to receive nutritious hot meals daily, cooked on the premises. Our dedicated catering team produced a varied and healthy menu using the hob and table top cookers, providing choice and meeting the needs of every resident’s individual dietary requirements.


Addressing a second point, we are happy to report that since the review a new Activities Coordinator has started at Bradbury House and is providing engaging daily activities for the residents. We always welcome the opportunity to improve and hope that you will continue to share your suggestions with us in the home in future. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts with us.

My uncle is 88 years old and was finding life more challenging. He lives on his own independently but was unable to care for himself. When I was alerted to his condition, he needed urgent help. Bradbury House in Braintree was recommended and they had a room available. My uncle had two very happy weeks
with them. The care they provided was excellent. The whole staff team were kind, professional and caring. They made a huge difference to his health and well-being. He is now at home again.

Fantastic staff, friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean, well proportioned and the care home has a home feel with a good community atmosphere. Very clean home and all the staff really focus on the needs of the residents and the care that they provide is the best that I have seen.

Job Title: Home Manager

I have worked in the care sector for 28 years, starting as a Night Care Assistant in a nursing home. I have worked as a Care Assistant, and then Senior Care Assistant in various residential, nursing and dementia homes. I joined Bradbury House 12 years ago and was a Senior Care Assistant for six years, also covering as Head Chef during this time. I then progressed to Deputy Home Manager for six years and at the end of July 2023, I became the Home Manager.


I oversee the day-to-day running of the home, ensuring that we meet all legislative and compliance requirements. I recruit and support my team members, as well as provide information and advice to support our residents and their families.


I enjoy my job because it is fun! I love talking and listening to our residents about their lives before coming to live at Bradbury House. I love bringing a fun element to their day by being a little crazy! I feel happy knowing that I make our residents feel safe and confident knowing that their best interests are my priority.


I love leading my team and encouraging their ideas, no matter how big or small, to improve and enhance our resident's stay at our home. I feel that I have a positive impact and that I motivate others and believe that my team enjoy coming to work at Bradbury House.


My biggest achievement must be achieving the role of Home Manager through hard work, training, and dedication. Personally, one of my proudest achievements was canyon walking. I was petrified, but excited at the same time and I was not going to give up!


My values might be a little cliché but are so true. I treat everyone as I would expect to be treated and if I feel I don’t have anything nice to say, then I don’t say anything! I believe care from the heart means being understanding, having empathy and compassion, as well as being reassuring.


I live in Braintree and have done most of my life. I have seen some changes, some for the better and I love the sense of community here. I enjoy the fact that I am able to see familiar faces when I am out and about.
