Brenalwood is a purpose-built residential home, situated close to the sea and shops and accommodates 36 residents on two floors. An eight-person passenger lift is available for residents on the first floor.

There are 32 single and 2 double rooms. All have en-suite facilities, phone points, nurse call points, and are individually furnished.

There are front and rear accessible gardens with bird aviary and rabbit enclosure and fish pond.

A variety of activities and entertainment is provided weekly, plus occasional outings to places of interest. A chiropodist visits the home every 6 weeks.   

Visiting is restricted due to the Covid 19 pandemic. Please contact the home manager for up to date details on the visiting policy.

My brother arrived shortly before the home was judged to require improvement by the CQC. We found it fine, though the new management did improve the regime. I found the staff caring and compassionate, clearly displaying their vocations to residents. They were patient and very hardworking and many went
above their paid call of duty to ensure my brother's needs were met and make him comfortable in his home. The staff were good at listening to any concerns I had and kept me updated. There was one issue following my brother's discharge from the hospital where the protocol was followed but needed common sense and intelligence to see through a negligent discharge note.

We are very happy with the friendly, kind and caring staff. Our brother seems very settled and enjoys the food and drinks. It is a great comfort for all the family that he is being cared for so well.
This home goes above and beyond and is truly a special care home for dementia patients. 10/10.

We have watched our dad get better after being transferred to the home from hospital who then had him back the next day for four days, again transferred back to the home. They worked hard with a very stubborn patient and got him drinking, eating and getting his fight back. On Monday, March 11th, he
is back home, still painful and stubborn.
Many thanks to all the staff for everything you do.
Get TVs in rooms and downstairs with films, sport etc. stop the boredom.

I attended the Hawian Day recently held at Brenalwood and had such a lovely time and even got Dad up to dance with me (with help from the staff). They do such a great job. I could see the good interaction between care staff and my Dad is great, they know his noises and what they mean which I know only
comes with knowing your resident as Dad has been non-verbal for quite some time now.
Since the new manager has taken over and the improvement works have been carried out, I can only say its a very positive move and very welcomed.
I sincerely thank all the staff, from the cleaners, care staff, kitchen staff, care taker and manager from the bottom of my heart.

We attended a Hawaiian party yesterday for residents and family. When we arrived, all the staff greeted us and chatted with us. The singer was great and all the staff got involved with the residents singing and dancing. Drinks were served all afternoon for residents and families. The food that was made
by the staff looked amazing and tasted very good, this was served to everyone or you could help yourselves. Overall, a fantastic day was had by all including residents and staff.

I have always felt that the staff at Brenalwood have been committed to the care of their residents. However, the home has been looking "tied" and in need of modernisation as well as the attention given to the catering - which was sadly basic. Since a recent CQC inspection and change of manager, vast
improvements have been made in the overall appearance of the home, the standard of catering was raised and the introduction of a meaningful activities programme. The staff have remained constantly excellent!

Personally, I have been very impressed with the staff and processes upheld by Brenalwood. Patients can be very demanding and not have a concept of time, but the staff do their best to overcome these concerns. It would be helpful if staff had a name badge on their uniforms. Thank you.

Seven months have passed since my mum passing away and every day is just as hard and painful. Myself, sister and my dad have lost my dad's wife of 68 years. My mum went in for two weeks respite, enough said, work it out yourself. I hope the staff at this home just give us a little thought on Christmas
Day, how we must be feeling. Just needed to write this down as one of my bad days. Merry Christmas to all the residents at Brenalwood.

I have found this care home to be beneficial to the health of my brother. They have at all times in my opinion endeavoured to meet all his requirements despite the fact he can be extremely difficult at times. The staff are friendly and helpful and a pleasure to deal with.

Mum is 90, has dementia and has been living at Brenalwood for a year. I've always felt that the carers want to do their best for her. She enjoys taking part in the different activities arranged for the residents. Today I was invited to join them for a trip to the beach for a picnic at a beach hut. I
believe most of the residents came for at least part of the day and the carers worked hard to make sure everyone enjoyed themselves. I am always made very welcome at Brenalwood and when I leave, I am happy that I am leaving Mum somewhere she is safe, well looked after and (something that is important to me) allowed to be herself.

Lovely care staff, who always have a ready smile even when having a tough day. Their job is very demanding from looking after the residents to cleaning, feeding, keeping residents entertained.

The staff work extremely hard to look after all of the residents. They cater to their needs, both their physical and mental. They provide entertainment for those who wish to partake. They also work closely with district nurses and as in our case, provide palliative care.
They keep the house clean and
deal with any mishaps as they arise.
I do believe it would ease the staff's load if they had additional staff/carers and a cleaner in the evening/night time, so the carers don't have to clean up and do their own job.

Aunty has now been in this home for six months and has settled well due to the excellent care she receives. All staff are friendly and cannot do enough for Aunty. Aunty is kept clean and well cared for and encouraged with help in daily living activities. Food is excellent and in particular, if Aunty
fancies something, staff try their hardest to supply. All staff interact well with Aunty to ensure she is happy and close family members are made to feel welcome when visiting.
Senior staff go over and above their job roles for Aunty and other residents and are a credit to the home as not only have they made Aunty feel part of one big family they also have made me feel so comfortable when visiting. Senior staff go out of their way to make sure Aunty has everything she needs for her care on a day to day basis and I cannot thank them enough for the hard decision we had to make in putting Aunty in a home at 98, but they have made this an easier decision with having given excellent care.
