Care provided at Broadoaks Residential Home has been wonderful for Mum who has advanced dementia. She has been a resident for 4 years and we could not recommend the home highly enough given her care and treatment.

Since being in care my husband has become calmer, relaxed and cheerful. He has settled in well thanks to his kind treatment. I am more than impressed by smooth running of the staff and good food.

The experience is welcoming, friendly, consideration, respectful and engaging. With a weekly routine and structure, open to suggestions and ideas, to accommodate residents and family. All staff are pleasant, nice and responsive to needs. Most are nice and thoughtful. The home surroundings are well presented,
clean and calm with good amount of space and rooms to use for visitors. Rooms are also nice and set out for both bed, sitting and bathrooms use. I researched several homes in the area and this is the one I thought was both best for dad and best for care.

I visit my friend every week and I attend all the special functions. These are very well organised. The home is very clean and free from nasty odours I have encountered elsewhere! The staff are, without exception, very pleasant and friendly. I would happily live there when the time arises.

My mum has been at Broadoaks Residential Home for over a year with mobility problems.
The care home is very comfortable and light and airy and modern. The staff have worked to maintain Mum's independence as much as she is able to do in terms of personal care and hygiene.
The care home organises regular
doctor/healthcare professional visits as well as daily activities for the residents to join in with if they wish. Food is excellent and varied too.

I have been in the home for two years now and am quite happy with the care that I have received. Yes, there are times when things aren't quite right but I have found things are put right immediately. Also, we do various social activities, there is an activities room where we are able to do painting
or jigsaw and colouring books etc.
I find the general cleanliness is very good. It's doesn't smell unpleasant!

Mum was in Broadoaks for 3 weeks before passing away from pneumonia. I visited every day. The staff were pleasant and helpful when asked but I felt they were not experienced enough to deal with my mum's needs (dementia and other health issues). There was a lack of urgency when there was a health concern
and I had to ask each time for a health professional from the GP surgery to be called, sometimes more than once. I had to call the surgery myself to express my concerns with mum's condition on the last occasion, which resulted in mum being taken to hospital where she sadly died five days later. I'm sure it could be a lovely home for less ill residents but there needs to be more staff training and awareness of residents with dementia who can't speak for themselves.

My dad who was dementia went into Broadoaks for 2 weeks of respite care at very short notice, and the individual care compassion and kindness shown to him made it so much easier for us. Thank you to the lovely team at Broadoaks.

My mum was found a place in Broadoaks in October 2020. She was 5 and a half years after a diagnosis of vascular dementia and my dad was finding it steadily more difficult to care for her and to meet her increasing mental and physical needs. The whole family were initially very anxious about the prospect
of Mum going into a home, especially after 56 years of married life and during the Covid pandemic. The Broadoaks management and team were excellent - respectful, accessible, professional and caring. Most reassuring. Mum was quickly embraced into the Broadoaks family and has adapted remarkably. She has been kept safe, secure, stimulated, well looked after, well fed and settled. Broadoaks made a concerning time into one of confidence and reassurance. Thank you!

My aunt has lived at Broadoaks for two and a half years. The care she receives is second to none. I cannot fault the kindness and support of the staff towards my aunt's personal, physical, social and emotional needs and indeed towards us as a family. Broadoaks has a bright and airy atmosphere, with
a spot-on security system. My aunt is kept safe, clean, and extremely well-fed, with a choice of meals each day.

It's been my Aunt's home for over 3 years, she is always happy, content, well presented and complimentary towards staff. A great team that gives care, support and kindness but allowing independence where possible. Any difficulty is met with empathy and great resolve. Daily activities encouraged and
in previous years, social events arranged for family get-togethers. Catering facilities and food of high standard, encouragement is given to eat in a light, airy dining room offering a menu choice at each meal. In previous years I've been a regular visitor and always made to feel welcome. It has a homely, happy atmosphere, clean, fresh and well maintained. During these extreme times, it has been COVID FREE. A Whatsapp group set up giving updates and bulletins. Video calls and window visits upon request and being able to ring at any time has alleviated worries to us in this very difficult time. I cannot praise the manager enough; along with her dedicated team of doing an amazing job keeping my Aunt safe and well.

My mother has been a resident at Broadoaks since March 2016 and the care and attention that she has received has been excellent throughout. Although 100 years old she is still quite active and needs to live somewhere where life is still stimulating. The staff at Broadoaks ensure that this need is well
met. As we live a considerable distance away we need to contact the Manager quite frequently by telephone and she or her deputy are always happy to answer our questions and help in any way. There is no doubt that the staff are committed to making the residents' lives as fulfilling and comfortable as possible and never have we found them wanting in that regard. The recently extended building has excellent facilities and I am so pleased to have found a home for my mother which provides such high-quality care. We visited a number of other residential homes at the time my mother felt she could no longer cope at home and Broadoaks stood out way above the rest.

My father spent a week's respite at this care home. The staff were friendly and professional. My father has stayed at various care homes however this is the first care home that I can honestly say that he was 'at ease' in. He suffers from Lewy body dementia and all the staff were knowledgeable in this
condition. I know they have just expanded and opened a specialist dementia area and although not all of the facilities were up and running I do believe that when this happens it will be fantastic. I felt happy leaving him there.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.392)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.392) out of 10 for Broadoaks Residential Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.492 for Broadoaks Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (77 Excellents x 5) + (28 Goods x 4) + (12 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 120 Ratings = 4.492

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Broadoaks Residential Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 39 registered maximum number of service users is 7.8, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
