Broomhills has an idyllic rural location looking over the river estuary, which can be viewed from the conservatory. A peaceful setting for a nice cup of tea and a chat with families or friends. Broomhills boasts of 3 large gardens, one with a patio, so there is always a nice area to walk or sit and relax.

Broomhills is a delightful older style building full of character, homely and comfortable. Although rooms are furnished items can be brought in to ensure you are as relaxed as possible. There are always activities for you to join in if you wish, it is your choice.

There are country and river views from all aspects of the building.

Due to the rural setting there are lots of opportunities to see wildlife and for bird watchers.

Broomhills sits back from the main roads, so there is a peaceful and tranquil feel.

Mum was in Broomhills from the end of March to the end of July 2018. Initially having Alzheimer's, she was diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus while in the care home, suffering rapid deterioration of health from June until she passed away. ALL the staff at Broomhills are passionate about their jobs
and stepped up to provide exceptional care during the last weeks of Mum's life. Myself and our family are truly grateful for the care and attention provided over this time.

It was a very big decision for my brother and I to put my Mum into a care home. Unfortunately, after managing to care for herself for 94 years, several trips to the hospital and four carers put in place at her flat couldn't give the 24-hour care she needed. We visited Broomhills and were welcomed by
staff, shown around the building, including available rooms, a big shock to think your mum only has this one room and shares everything else.
I was very upset to think we were leaving her here.
It made me cry and your staff were very understanding. In the short time she has been at Broomhills she is happy, joins in with the other ladies and the staff are lovely and caring. She enjoys the food and the grounds. Most of all we know she is safe and being looked after 24 x 7.

Mum stayed for two nights respite. Her care could not have been better, special thanks to the activities coordinator for taking her to church on her day off and to the care team managers for making her feel loved in the short time she stayed. The manager was compassionate and understanding.

Very enjoyable evening at the residents Halloween Party. Amazing decorations for the residents with hats and masks given to the residents which they enjoyed. Staff came round with party food while an entertainer sang to them. A brilliant party atmosphere and my mum thoroughly enjoyed herself. The staff
were attentive and kind, encouraging the residents to join in. Overall a great evening and the staff really had worked hard as usual.

With the support of Broomhills Home staff my mother was able to attend my wedding in June 2017. The staff ensured she had her hair set and was smartly dressed in the clothes provided by her family. The member of staff who attended to Mum throughout the day ensured all her needs were catered for ie
medicines, visits to the bathroom etc. It really made it very special having Mum with us on this significant day. Our family said how well she looked.

My mother became a resident in February 2012 following a series of mini strokes and the subsequent onset of dementia. We had looked at several care homes when we knew that mum needed 24/7 care, and Broomhills stood out head and shoulders above those we had seen. The grounds are lovely, so peaceful
and quiet, and the residents are encouraged to help with the garden. The rooms are very well decorated, bright and cheerful and you can take in your own furniture and ornaments.


Mum received palliative care during her last 2 weeks and the staff during this particular time were outstanding! Nothing was too much trouble - they even found some games and toys for the children to do while we visited mum. Tea/coffee was always offered to us, and the staff popped in at regular times to see how we were and how mum was fairing. They were as upset as we were when mum passed away.


Mum was treated like a family member at Broomhills, the staff knew her so well and she loved them all. Thank you!

We placed mum into this care home with reluctance as we didn't want to let her go. She has vascular dementia and after visiting a few homes in our area this one stood above the rest. Mum has been treated with love, care and dignity. Every one of the staff are excellent. Always smiling, have time to
reassure us, always friendly and nothing is too much trouble. We have no regrets about placing mum in this home where she is happy and well cared for.

Very friendly staff, always say hello and let me know my dad's progress when I come in.
Always offer me a drink.
Home, generally clean and the meals always look nice.
Only issue I have came across is his laundry sometimes get muddled and other residents have been seen in his clothing.
Also, I feel
the fee is very steep. I'd say £550 would be quite sufficient to cover their care, food and outings.

My mother and father in law have been residents of Broomhills since January 2017. The staff are like one big family, all very caring, helpful and sympathetic. The food is all excellent, nothing is too much trouble for the kitchen staff. They have been made to feel very welcome and at home and we have
peace of mind they are well looked after. My mum was at Broomhills 3 years earlier and she was also very happy.

Mum entered Broomhills in 2009. She was poorly, health, diet, hygiene, mental state etc. We expected her to live 2-3 months at most. Nearly 7 years later she passed away! Throughout her time there she received the very best care imaginable, she was a challenging personality and yet every member of staff
embraced her and gave her the finest care and attention. Our family will be forever grateful to Broomhills. Mum had extreme needs and all staff were just amazing, they treated her with utmost respect and kindness. We could not imagine a better place to spend your last days/weeks/months/years.

I find this home to have a warm and safe environment. The staff are very friendly and caring and have a nice rapport with the residents. The home is kept very clean and tidy considering its size.
The food looks good and those who need help eating and drinking have a member of staff sit with them.

I have been very pleased with the care my husband has received. The initial interview in my home was conducted with empathy. I was impressed with the surroundings. The carers who came to take him into the building showed care and consideration. The room seemed rather small but it was clean I was pleased
to see there was an en suite. There has been a problem with the laundry but it was rectified after I pointed this out. There was some time to sort this out. Fortunate everyone has been very kind, calm and understanding.

This was a difficult time for myself and my family, the decision to take my dad into a residential home. My fears and concerns were relieved by the most amazing staff at Broomhills who showed the utmost compassion, love and care of my dad. Their gifts are truly god given, their patience is something
we can all learn from.
My wife and I have in a short time, grown to love the staff at Broomhills and although we are moving my dad to another Runwood Home, we believe the service provided at Broomhills has got to be of the highest order. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. God bless you all.

Broomhills is in a lovely place. The staff are very helpful and always available if there are any things you need help with or discuss how my mum is. There is a lovely 'home from home' atmosphere and lovely grounds to walk round. The care manager is always available if there are any concerns or just
for support. I would highly recommend this care home based on my regular visits, which are not always the same time, but regular and I always find a warm and friendly atmosphere.

My mother became a resident at Broomhills at the beginning of May 2016, throughout this period to date, the care she has received has been very good. The staff are caring, understanding, reassuring and responsible, promoting dignity, independence, and most importantly ensuring the safety of individual
residents. There is also a strong presence and motivation for our mother to view Broomhills as her home, which has been important to myself and my family, not only do we feel that we can be relaxed when visiting but also our mother/grandmother is well cared for and safe.

In the week that my wife has been in care my observations are that she has been treated sympathetically and with dignity. She has always been clean and well dressed. Staff members appear to be on hand and visit the lounges regularly to ensure her well-being.


There does not appear to be much conversational

contact between the residents and this could possibly be improved if like minded residents were seated together on a regular basis so that friendships could begin.

Impressed by the staff who seemed to genuinely care and had time for my stepmother and other residents. They knew her and her likes and dislikes. I was regularly informed by phone of any news. They even accommodate and befriended her cat!

My aunt had a fall and was admitted to A & E and within 24 hrs was discharged to her home. After 2 weeks, myself, aunt and social workers decided upon respite. I was apprehensive on the day of taking her there but I was greeted with friendly caring staff, who instantly put us at ease. They took my aunt
on a tour and I was taken to her room. This was like at hotel room, spotless and lovely touches such as flowers, it was great. I met my aunt in the lounge and everywhere people were smiling and couldn't do enough for my aunt or myself. I left feeling 100% better than when I arrived.

I started working for the company in April 2002. I started as a night care assistant. During my time at Runwood Homes, they have supported me to gain qualifications for my role. I have worked in the following areas: night care, night CTL, daycare, day CTL, lifestyle coordinator, deputy manager, and currently Home Manager. I have gained my NVQ Levels 2 & 3 in Health and Social Care, Level 4 Leadership and Management, 12 University Credits in Dementia Care Leadership, IOSH Principles of Safety Management in Healthcare, and the People First Modular Leadership Programme. I have been the registered manager at Broomhills since July 2013. I am proud to manage a lovely home with a great staff team who truly do put our residents first. As a care home, we have won numerous awards within our company and Essex Prosper. I was a finalist in the Great British Care Awards for Manager of the Year 2015.

Job Title: Deputy Manager

My name is Cain. I started my career in the care sector in 2015, realising quickly that I had a passion for care, and this was the career I wanted. I joined the company in April 2019 as a night care assistant. I have worked as a night carer, night CTL, day carer, and day CTL and then became a Deputy Manager in November 2022. I gained his NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care many years before joining the company. I have also taken part in a management and leadership course. I feel I am a great support to the team and am always happy to help anyone. I joined Broomhills in July 2024 and almost immediately settled in as part of the team at Broomhills, showing kindness and compassion towards staff and residents, and has become a great part of the team.

My name is Jean. I joined the team at Broomhills in March 2015. I began as a kitchen assistant.  I have a history of working in catering, and I had my own catering business before joining Broomhills. Jean was then later trained as a cook. I took over as the cook at Broomhills in 2017, providing residents with nutritious, healthy, home-cooked meals. Jean has had training in preparing modified diets. Jean has a lovely relationship with residents, often inviting them into the kitchen to help with meals and cake decorating with tools down. Jean is very passionate about her job and the importance of providing meals for residents with allergies and nutritional needs and preferences.

Job Title: Lifestyle Coordinator

My name is Nicola. I joined Broomhills in 2014. I started off as a volunteer, as her grandmother was residing at Broomhills; I then became the Lifestyle Coordinator. I have been told I'm a great member of our team, with great communication skills and a great team approach, ensuring we provide the residents with a range of activities. I was a finalist in the Dementia Care Awards 2024. I also support staff by training the company's new lifestyle coordinators.

Paul Jiggens

I joined Broomhills as an apprentice in December 2019. I started as a domestic staff and then wished to do an apprenticeship as a carer. I have a great work ethic and have always been kind, caring, and compassionate, building great relationships with residents, relatives, and staff. I gained my Level 2 QCF in Health and Social Care and am working towards my Level 3 QCF in Health and Social Care. Paul later progressed to Care Team Leader (CTL). I won the Southeast Great British Care Awards in 2023 for putting people first. He was entered into the National Great British Care Awards 2024 and was a finalist. I have completed 2 leadership and management courses as I wish to progress further within Runwood Homes, and I’m sure I will achieve this with Broomhills and Runwood Homes support.
