Broome End is proud to have won the coveted “Care Home Of The Year” and highly commended “Champion of Champions” at the 2019 Prosper Awards for Essex County Council.

The home provides person-centered care like no other in the area. The historic converted manor house has a capacity of 35, split between 29 single rooms and 3 doubles. Broome End is proud to offer exceptional accommodation, engaging activities and wonderful serene outdoor space including a large terrace overlooking meadows and a state-of-the-art sensory garden – all to a very high standard.

All rooms are generously proportioned and larger than most purpose-built homes in the area. They also have 3 rooms that are suitable for couples who wish to stay together or individuals who would like extra space.

Life at Broome End is all about creating a safe, cosy and homely environment for the residents. All rooms come furnished, but the home understand if residents wish to bring their own special pieces with them; something Broome End has found helps the settling in process significantly.

The activities team plan and provide trips out, visiting speakers & musicians, 1-1 sessions and various other activities which have all been chosen by the residents.

Although Broome End has outstanding facilities, the home is focused on providing person-centered care. The award-winning staff ensures residents' safety while being committed to allowing them as much independence as possible.

Residents range from those who are relatively self-sufficient to others who require more complex care. The team works together with residents and their loved ones to create a care plan that is as individual as those they care for.

Broome End believes what sets their staff apart from other homes is the commitment & dedication to ensuring the dignity of all their residents, encouraging independence, involving family & friends and engaging daily with all on a human level.

My husband was admitted in February and from that date, to this I have nothing but praise and gratitude for the care and attention he has received. The friendly atmosphere and dedication of all the staff is a great comfort and the compassion my husband receives is wonderful. My thanks to everyone at
Broome End.

My mum has been at Broome End for over a year.
In this time I have found the care workers and management very helpful and approachable, they update me on any changes and if I have any concerns they spend the time to listen and action if necessary.
They always put mum's care first, but have helped
me to come to terms and understand my mum's condition.
I have watched the team support other residents and their families, their patience and their caring attitude are a tribute to Broome End.
I would not want my mum in the care of any other care home and when I ask my mum is she happy? She says "yes". That's all you want to hear from a loved one.

I would like to say how very impressed my family and I were with the level of care and support our father received in the short time he stayed at Broome End care home.
The home itself has been refurbished and is bright, clean and airy.
All the members of staff that we came into contact with were both
friendly and helpful and the managerial staff were excellent in their knowledge and understanding of our situation.
I would say to anyone looking for a residential care home for a loved one to go and look at Broome End for yourself before making any judgements as we were over the moon with the home.
Thank you to all at Broome End.

My Mother moved into Broome End Care Home in June 2017 as we, as a family, were unable to continue to look after her. It is a very distressing time when a loved one has to go into a care home and I would like to say how much the home has helped us and is still helping us as a family. Since she has been
in the home, although her dementia has deteriorated, her physical wellbeing has improved. The home encourages her independence when it is safe to do so and they maintain her dignity. Mum is encouraged to participate in the activities on offer but she does not always want to and the staff leave her be on those occasions. The food is good which Mum enjoys. The residents are taken out in the garden if they wish in the nice weather which she likes. We, as a family, are very pleased with the professional way her care is being handled and most importantly, they do actually care about her welfare. Mum is looked after extremely well medically too.

My mother has been in Broome End care home for 6 years now. She is so well looked after by kind and caring staff. Every day she has a thorough wash, cream applied to prevent dry and flaking skin and staff help her to eat her meals now that she is frail. The meals have been pureed as she hasn't any teeth
and cannot chew. Her clothes are clean and well looked after. Each day there is an activity and although mum cannot always take part, she will still sit at the table with others and be asked her opinion of their craft work, or be asked to choose colours for crayoning and painting. A new manager and deputy manager have increased the standards and they are always willing to talk about how mum is doing, what actions they are putting in place to improve her health and well-being. We read so many stories in the papers these days of poor elderly care, my sister and are so pleased that we chose Broome End as mum struggled to cope at home.

Current Review Score: 8.8 (8.831)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.8 (8.831) out of 10 for Broome End is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.655 for Broome End is calculated as follows: ( (38 Excellents x 5) + (20 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 58 Ratings = 4.655

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.176 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Broome End is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 37 registered maximum number of service users is 7.4. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 7.4 = 0.676

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
