Ideally located in the heart of Colchester, Britain’s oldest recorded town, Crouched Friars is just a one minute stroll from the town centre shops and amenities.

The sympathetically restored part Grade II listed home supports a small community of residents and their priority is in delivering care that maintains the dignity and individuality of each person, providing both physical and mental stimulation for those with residential care needs. Crouched Friars is a Residential care home that benefits from a team of experienced care staff who provide around the clock care for residents. Led by manager Paulina Eagle, the team work to ensure that every resident receives a high standard of care and support.

Surrounding the home are beautiful landscaped gardens that provide ample hard walking surfaces and seating, along with plenty of attractive flora and fauna. All rooms are spacious and offer TV points along with a wardrobe, chest of drawers and seating. Many rooms also benefit from en-suite facilities and a telephone.

Residents are encouraged to bring their favourite furnishings to their room to make their room as homely as possible. The home also has suitable wheelchair access and a lift to all floors is available. In addition to this, all of the home’s living spaces have been designed specifically to create a welcoming, friendly space that retains a sense of homeliness.

Residents can enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner in one of the dining rooms, or in the privacy of their own room. All meals are prepared fresh on the day by the home’s in-house chef who always makes use of the season’s best market produce.

Each day, the menu will offer a range of good quality food based on traditional recipes. The varied options also ensure that residents can enjoy a nutritionally balanced diet that is catered for any dietary requirements.

I have always found my mum to be happy and contented. She is always clean and dressed appropriately. I visit at various times of the day, weekdays and weekends, and am always warmly greeted by the staff.
I have noticed many positive changes recently at the home, and the improvements and new ideas
have enhanced the homeliness feel. I am particularly grateful for the improved communication with relatives. It is very helpful to have regular newsletters highlighting key events and news. There is a brighter and happier feel about the home, which is a credit to the new management and staff.
My mum has dementia, staff treat her with dignity and understanding, ensuring that she is fully involved with all activities to offer her a good quality of life.

The new management team have achieved a great deal since the Summer and the improvements within the buildings are clear to see. The team is well led and recruitment seems to be going well, I applaud all those who stayed and worked very hard during a very difficult interim period. The level of care and
attention is much improved and I feel my dad is in a good place.

My mum has been at the care home for over 1.5 years. We, as a family were very worried that she would not settle, but after a short time she adjusted very well and is now very happy and content and looked after and cared for by all the lovely and friendly staff who are always very welcoming to all our
family.

I have always been impressed by the level of care and by the staff, who have a very difficult and tiring job. The rooms downstairs have been redecorated and improved and the environment is good. Access to some garden and open air is not easy but manageable. The home is situated in a good part of town.

My mother has been a resident at Crouched Friars for almost three years and has been very well looked after. She has dementia and her behaviour can be variable. The staff always treat her with kindness and respect and she is very well cared for. All the staff from the manager, nurses to the ancillary
staff are always friendly and helpful.
I would strongly recommend this care home.

My mother has been resident at Crouched Friars for over five years now and is extremely happy and contented living in the home. My husband and I feel very confident in the care my mother receives, this is very important for us to know as we spend a lot of time out of the country and are unable to visit
her on a regular basis. All the staff at Crouched Friars are very kind and considerate, my mother gets on with them all well and her day to day needs are fully met.
