Croft House is an elegant and spacious home situated within a leafy suburb close to Stansted Airport. The home is set in stunning, well-maintained gardens and is also situated within walking distance of the main high street of Great Dunmow, which is ideal for residents to get out and about.

At Croft House, staff take great care to focus on the person. It’s important for residents to feel at home, so staff create a friendly environment with an individually appropriate balance of care and independence.

Enjoying food is an important part of life. The chefs create well-crafted menus made with the freshest ingredients and they try to cater for all ethnicity groups. Soon after a resident arrives at Croft House, staff discuss their personal preferences and dietary needs with them.

There’s a real sense of community at Croft House. The staff love to discover what residents enjoy doing and the social calendar is organised around those interests. My father was made very welcome from day one. The staff really go out of their way to accommodate your needs.

Original care and room that was 'sold' to us are not what is being received. Numerous requests for outside assistance i.e. optician, dentist and hearing aid, has been left for us to chase a month later. The value for money is not as was described. My mother is unhappy with the food being served to her
and upon viewing I tend to agree. The care/medical is satisfactory but the 'extras' that were part of the attraction to this facility seem to be failing at this time.

I am so happy with the care of my husband.
The staff are so caring and go out of their way to meet his needs (he is very vulnerable). Everyone is treated with dignity and a very caring attitude!
We were at a different home and had to move as it was not suitable, but Croft House suppresses all expectations.

My husband passed away peacefully - I was too late - the care by the nurse 100%. After a stay of 9 months, he went. I cannot express my gratitude enough. The home is a really caring environment. My husband was often in distress and quite angry at times. He was treated with dignity, respect and love.
I was at the home every day but 2 for 9 months. I was always made to feel welcome. I miss the visits.

I came for one-week respite care after an operation. I benefitted from the rest and attention and noticed that all staff were respectful, caring and attentive with residents, especially the less able. The housekeeping and laundry service were extremely good. The only niggle is the cost.

The care my mother had at Croft House was not good. She ended up in the hospital because the care was not up to standard. They were short-staffed which should not be the case for private. I would not recommend this care home. It has caused us all distress and it cost us a lot of money. Extremely disappointed.

1. The car parking facility at Croft House is woefully inadequate. Parking is required for staff, residents' relatives, tradesmen and deliveries, also ambulances on occasions. At residents and relatives meetings, BUPA has been requested to improve the situation by utilising part of the garden which
is totally overgrown but nothing has been done.
2. The person responsible for in-house activities has been off work for almost 2 months which has left a void in this field. Some form of back up is necessary to maintain a good activities programme.

I visit twice or three times a week and I am given a welcome by all. On the whole, my friend is given good care by regular staff but things have sometimes gone awry and agency staff on the night shift.
I would add that when these things have been pointed out to management they have done their best
to solve things.

A resident for 3 yrs following a stroke. Adjusting to care in a residential setting has been emotionally difficult. Unable to access activities without staff initiating support. Staffing levels minimal so unable to leave room or bed regularly. Socially isolated - no activities for bed-bound residents
offered. Special diet required - no planning or thought to provide interest - Food from the catering staff for special diets.

1. I do have major concerns at the low level of staff available and in particular that the nursing station on floor 2 is closed for large parts of the day, which makes it very difficult to summon help quickly.
2. Staff would benefit from training in social skills, as some of their responses in conversation
provokes confrontation and upset.

On the whole very happy.
The staff are all very kind.
Mum particularly enjoyed the Theatre trip and race night.
The window doesn't open very much and it can be very hot in the room, does have a fan which we provided.

I find that nothing is too much trouble and enquiries are replied to satisfactorily. If there have been any problems, I have been contacted by phone and informed if it is urgent or not. The staff are particularly friendly and helpful at any time. Nothing unsatisfactory to relate to in my opinion.

Carers are always so good when looking after my dad, they engage him in conversation and ensure that he has everything he needs. They were also very understanding when he became frustrated at times because of his restrictions. The management team have all been so helpful with the transition.

My mother has been a resident 6 years. We have seen a number of managers come and go, some good, some definitely not. We are extremely hopeful with the new manager. The whole place has a different feel of friendliness and the staff seem so much happier which all reflects on the residents.

My mother is generally happy in Croft House.
The staff stop and chat for a short while which I feel is important although I now they must complete their daily tasks.
Some staff are particularly kind and caring and during my mother's recent illness the nursing staff were excellent.

Considering how bad I felt when I came to Croft House and I feel now, it has shown me that with the right care, what a place like this can do for oneself.
The staff are a great help and most of them very cheerful.
I like the position of Croft House because it enables one to walk easily to the shops
and back.
The only thing about Croft House is the lack of parking but that is a problem everywhere nowadays.

My dad arrived at Croft House in February 2017. As soon as we arrived, my dad was made very welcome. Despite my dad's communication difficulties, as he does not speak English or understand English, efforts were made by all the staff to ensure his needs were met. Some staff would often "pop" in just
to say hello to him with a wave and a smile.
I was always made to feel welcome, whatever time I visited and for whatever length of the visit. Thank you, Croft House for making the last weeks of his life the best that he could have asked for.
