Dudbrook Hall is part of a family-run care home operator who is truly honoured to be serving the elderly community of Brentwood and Essex since 1991. Residents are not numbers on a balance sheet, the team care. Their care homes are adjacent to each other nestling in beautiful park-like gardens which are surrounded by Essex countryside. Dudbrook Hall is a country manor house and ancestral home of the Waldergrave family which dates back to early 1800s. It is a home full of character. Mum was living alone and her physical and mental health was deteriorating. She had been diagnosed as having dementia but refused help and was eventually taken to hospital following a breakdown. Since being cared for in Dudbrook Hall her physical health has improved considerably. Although her mental
capacity has deteriorated she is happy and content and her children no longer have to worry about her welfare.

Dad only spent a few months at Dudbrook Hall but was warmly welcomed and made to feel at home. Covid made things far from normal but the home made every effort to maintain our family visits. Whenever we saw dad he was always well turned out and in good spirits.

Mum is very happy living in Dudbrook Hall and calls it "home". The staff and management have managed to create an environment for the residents which makes the home warm and welcoming - it's almost like being in a large family home! The staff are friendly, caring, attentive and professional, always
having time for the residents. A full programme of activities for the residents keeps them busy, entertained and stimulated. Overall, excellent home.

It was a happy chance that saw my elderly friends becoming residents at Dudbrook Hall. We had been looking for a care home for them but the pandemic stopped our search. Then - after a fall - one of the ladies was placed in Dudbrook Hall to recuperate. The welcome and care she received was so lovely
that her sister joined her and they are now both permanent residents.
Being able to see on the Facebook page the pictures of the many activities provided for the residents was particularly comforting when visits were not allowed. Contact with staff has always been easy.

I was extremely happy from day one, the treatment and care my mother was receiving, it was lovely to see how happy she was being at Dudbrook Hall.
I found it to be such friendly and happy staff, end of life was treated with such dignity.

My mother-in-law was in an extremely poor place mentally and prone to falling. She had carers at home three times a day, but wasn't eating properly, and distressed at being isolated due to the virus which just made her dementia worse. When we contacted Dudbrook Hall with a view to placing her there
we were happy to discover they were Covid free, and would take her with minimum isolation as this was her biggest problem. The Manager of the home was able to visit almost immediately, do an appraisal and a Covid test, and take her within a few days. It took a few weeks for her to settle down, but there are so many activities and people around that she quickly got used to the routine. She's eating better and has built a good rapport with the staff and other residents. It helps enormously to see all the lovely photos and videos on social media, so even if all the family can't visit, we can see what she's been doing - sometimes exercise, or manicures, dancing, birthday celebrations, or gardening.

My mum was very well cared for in Dudbrook Hall for 3 years and my uncle joined her for a short while. With my hand on my heart, I can honestly say I was so glad I chose Dudbrook Hall. It may not be all singing and dancing accommodation wise (there are plans to rebuild) but the care is superb and the
entertainment programme is all singing and dancing and much more. A majority of the staff have been there for a long time and that says it all. I also like that it is run by a very caring family under the umbrella of St Michaels Homes. Any concerns are addressed. Caring is a very hard job and it's not always possible to please all the people all the time but I feel they listen. I have no hesitation in recommending Dudbrook Hall.

Social Services told me that Mum needed to go into residential care due to dementia in November 2017. I looked at several homes which didn’t feel right and a friend recommended Dudbrook Hall. I visited the home one night after work and Mum was in their care within 48 hours.
It was such a relief for
me, in fact in the first two weeks Mum was in there, I used to burst into tears whenever I went in!
I have nothing but praise for all of the staff at Dudbrook Hall. The home is spotless, all the residents are clean and well presented. My mum can be quite demanding as the dementia progresses but the staff are great with her. You can visit Dudbrook Hall at any time and all the staff are friendly and welcoming. There is always entertainment laid on for the residents and they have pamper days for the ladies. If Mum has to see a doctor, staff always ensure that you are aware of the visit and also the outcome. I would thoroughly recommend Dudbrook Hall to care for your loved ones.

Having chosen Dudbrook Hall for mum, l believe I made the best decision for her. She is cared for with much love, kindness and compassion by all the staff.


Having suffered a serious fall last year, mum at 98, has been nursed back to good health. My sincere thanks goes out to all those who have helped

to achieve this.


I'm certain she would not have survived her hospital experience without the intervention of the Senior Staff at Dudbrook Hall. Thank you so much.

My Mum became a resident at Dudbrook Hall in 2007. We looked at at least another 7 care homes before we chose Dudbrook Hall, and it was the best decision we ever made.
Mum had dementia which progressed over the years. We know she was loved by all the staff. I feel I am an extended part of the family
and always made to feel welcome. I get invited on day trips and want to continue to be part of the family, despite Mum sadly passing away just after her 90th birthday.
All staff from Domestics, Kitchen, Carers, Managers, Directors and of course the Activities Lady make the home a really welcoming place and I would highly recommend Dudbrook Hall and have done so to people that have asked me.

After being told by the staff at the hospital that my mother could no longer cope at home, even with carers, and that she should be moved to a care home as soon as possible, I began the search. I visited several potential homes, but none of them seemed right for my mum, I was getting desperate, but
when discussing the rather emotional challenge with a colleague, he mentioned his mum frequently visits friends at Dudbrook Hall and was full of praise for the place and the staff.


I immediately drove out to the home and met with the manager, she was fantastic and understanding and showed me around, it just felt right for my mum. The manager dealt with the hospital and within a day my mum was being cared for by the fantastic team at Dudbrook Hall. Nearly four years later, she's still there and getting the same level of care, even though her dementia has made it challenging for the carers they still care.
I thoroughly recommend this home.

Kerry Toulson manager of Dudbrook House Care Centre said: “I started as a carer at Dudbrook Hall in Feb 1998, Mrs Watson CEO took me under her wing and I was supported along the way with great training and support which then lead me to become the manager, can’t quite believe it has been that long, however I have enjoyed every min of it, caring for the elderly is all I love to do and St Michaels Homes allows me to concentrate on this important aspect of my career.” St Michaels Homes have always been very keen to invest in all its staff, and they have won awards for medium-sized employer by Cube in 2019 for their commitment to training staff to achieve all their goals & promote their own potential. Now the manager of Dudbrook House care centre.


Jo Moss team leader has worked at Dudbrook Hall then to Dudbrook House for 24yrs now and said
“In my eyes It is not just a job, the residents and staff are an extended part of my family, we are all there for each other all the time. St Michaels homes are very dedicated to providing the very best of care to our residents and staff and I would honestly never work anywhere else, they could not fire me if they tried lol.”


More than 55% of the staff at St Michaels Homes have worked at the homes for more than 5 years or more. Sean Watson, Director said “we are extremely proud of our teams and their dedication. The staff turnover rate for the adult residential care sector currently stands at around 27% so to be celebrating 55% of our staff being here for more than five years is quite something.
