The Grange is a beautiful Home situated in Wickford. Just 1 mile from Silvanna Court, where the Alzheimer’s Society hold their meetings to support families and all are welcome.

The home offers comfort and security and although rooms are furnished residents can easily exchange these for precious pieces of furniture that you wish to bring from home. The Chef provides home cooked food and there is always something to tempt the appetite.

Staff always try to find out what makes you unique and what you like to do and offer activities to suit. It may be you wish to try something new and Tai Chi has been one of the new ventures and is enjoyed by many.

My mother has been a resident for 9-months and; the staff have treated my mum exceptionally well with the care and compassion to the highest standard.
Some of the "good" marks given are because not had an in-house visit due to Covid to give a realistic evaluation.
Areas for improvement - for pod
visits, a buzzer to let staff know you are waiting for a president.
For residents family - a detailed welcome pack covering all the facilities on offer, activities and care home protocol! After 9-months, still things I don't know about.

First visits after last year in lockdown - my mother has been moved into a different room (I had been advised when this was happening), but this was the first time I'd seen it. The decor is clean but tired. The carpet could do with a wash/deep clean. Small, but nonetheless, an important point, which
brings down the value for money score. However, the ongoing care and attention of the staff is exemplary, particularly through the period of Covid restriction we're all experienced.

Whenever we want to see my mum, we could always park our car around the back of their car park. All the staff that cared for my mum made us welcome and have a chat with us. Mum's room was clean and her bedding. We could always talk to someone if we needed to know anything or if Mum felt uncomfortable
about something. Pleased how she was looked after and thank you to all the staff.

My mother has been there for over two years and is extremely happy. All the staff have been very friendly and helpful, especially during this Covid period. There appear to be a number of activities, special mention must be made to the signing/choir. My mother has thoroughly enjoyed this, and I'm sure
it has helped slow down her dementia.

Mum entered The Grange in December 2019, one month after losing my dad, her husband of 71-years. She has dementia and is not mobile. She is 95-years-old. We found all staff very friendly and caring and visited Mum every day. Unfortunately, Covid 19 caused the home on 8 March to shut its doors. I cannot
praise the staff highly enough for their care, but the isolation has caused a significant deterioration in Mums dementia and on her physically. My family have been campaigning with many groups and societies to gain carer status for family members to have meaningful close contact with their loved one. We have also asked on many occasions why homes refuse to use LFT for relatives, which they have been provided with, stating they do not trust the results. Yet they do for Health Professionals going in to provide care for our loved ones. Whilst I have rated the overall standard below, I have to say having not physically been inside since last year, it is difficult to rate all.

Our mum went into ur care in October 2020, she couldn’t have been happier than she was. The staff lovely, and residents she said the food is wonderful, she had warmed to the staff, they loved her. She is a kind, lovely bright full soul, but sadly she had health issues, like Alzheimer’s and Dementia
and some times she’d forget who called. She'd say she's not eaten and had, then had kidney problems. I used to visit and chat through the wall they put up with the large window, she’d sing to me, and we had a laugh. They made her feel so at home, wonderful staff and 24-hour care, can’t fault it at all, best place mum could have been, but sadly Mums happy ness was short-lived and was taken ill. They did all they could have done, they had her taken to hospital as she was ill, and sadly, we lost our lovely sweet soul on Friday 22/2/21. Want to thank the particular person who ran the home when mum went in, and all the lovely staff who took care of her, she had two favourites there, thank you u all.

The Grange has done a terrific job with my aunt; who moved in over two years ago. They have coped extremely well with her progressive conditions that mean she requires a lot of attention. I am writing this review now to specifically highlight their response to the Covid-19 pandemic. They were early
to close access to visitors, operating ahead of the government lockdown, and have responded throughout the pandemic thus far operating to keep the residents both safe and thoughtfully cared for.
As with many things at the moment, things and people have taken for granted have suddenly been in the spotlight and are key in our thoughts. Hence, I'd like to express my thanks and admiration for all the staff who, now more than ever, we really appreciate all they do! When we're out of the other side of this, we must all remember to show our appreciation on a more consistent basis.

From the very first day mum arrived, the staff were really welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Arriving between mealtime part of the day, the chef cooked a hot meal and served it himself. Mum's room is a good size, but maybe a fresh coat of paint would be great. The bathroom is very small and
wheelchairs are a bit tricky to manoeuvre but functional.
Activities and raffles are constantly being organised should residents wish to participate. The cafe is bright, modern, always has tea, coffee and cake. The main strength of The Grange is the staff. From the Manager and assistant down, they are always willing to talk, listen and action any requests put to them whenever possible.

I like it here because the people are friendly. I've made friends here and I like to go on outings. I like singing and I belong to the choir and I enjoy it when we go out to places and sing to other people. I am very happy here and everyone looks after me.

After a lot of soul searching, we admitted mum to a care home. We narrowed the choice to three and The Grange became available. After the initial settling in bumps in the road, which are expected, we have found The Grange to be a lovely place for mum. She particularly loves the activities on offer -
choir, games and themed parties. She seems very content and happy. The management and staff are all very amenable and helpful.

My Mother was in the care home for convalescence following inpatient hospital treatment for a fractured femur. The staff were very pleasant and friendly. The food was fine and there was an entertainment programme, although, my mother would not participate in that.

Sadly I am not quite a walker yeat and still use a wheelchair. The staff here could not be kinder to me. On a trip by coach/bus the driver looked after me from start to finish, he stayed with me all the time and took me wherever I wanted to go. People outside The Grange as so good to us and I sometimes
wonder what we can give in return. One thing we can give is singing.

Job Title: Home Manager

I’m the Home Manager at The Grange and have 34 years of experience in the care sector, 27 years of which I have been working in management. I have also had the privilege to have won “Home Manager of the Year” on three separate occasions during my career.


I wake up every morning knowing that I can make a positive change in someone’s life. Our exceptional care, kindness, and genuine passion make this home very special. I feel that I am a natural leader and enjoy leading and supporting my team.


The decision to seek a care home for a loved one demonstrates a commitment to providing them with the best possible care. Here at The Grange, we are committed to delivering quality care and strive for excellence.


I am proud to manage the home and the team that I work with. The staff are kind, caring, and respectful to all residents. The home has a warm and welcoming feeling that is often commented on by families and visitors.

Hi, I’m Catherine, the Lifestyle Coordinator at The Grange, where I’ve been dedicated to creating meaningful experiences for the past 10 years. I love being creative, coming up with fresh ideas to engage residents, and working closely with the team to ensure everyone feels involved and supported.


Throughout my career, I’ve been fortunate to achieve several milestones, including awards for Excellence in Resident Experience and Excellence in Community Engagement. I’m proud to have secured a £10k grant from the Utley Foundation and to have sung with a choir at the Royal Albert Hall and Universal Music Studios, performing in front of Tony Christie—a truly unforgettable experience!


Outside of work, I run a sweet business, which lets me share my love for delicious treats. In my free time, I enjoy gardening, spending time with dogs, shopping, and staying active with keep-fit activities.
