The Haven is a national and regional award-winning care home registered for 32 occupants.

The Haven is known for its modern-day approach in Dementia Care using innovations and technology to enhance the support and stimulation to its residents encouraging them to live as independently as possible by receiving care and support consistent with their needs.

The Haven understands the importance of each person’s individuality and adapts a person centred approach to ensure each resident lives a life that they wish to live, whether it is menu preferences, religious and cultural needs or a trip to the pub now and then.

The Haven is set in approximately one acre of secluded land and is 5 minutes’ drive from Colchester town centre. Local amenities include bus stop directly outside, two small local shops and a church; pub and restaurants within walking distance.

The home also has 2 lounges and a dining room, with attractive views of the garden area. The grounds within which The Haven is located can be easily accessed and residents are able to make use of this beautiful area. Seating areas and are present to assist clients with poor mobility, enabling all residents to enjoy the benefits of outdoor exercise. The garden has lots of wildlife in the area, which help to create a welcoming and stimulating environment for residents and family members.

A caring place for anyone over the age of 65, male or female, who suffers from dementia, including married couples or partners, who have reached a stage in their lives where they prefer to live in a home where all the support required for daily living.

A caring team of staff provide cooked meals, refreshments, housekeeping and laundry services as well as personal care for residents.
There are numerous services offered by The Haven including regular visits by a hairdresser, chiropodist, occupational therapist and optician.

My wife has settled into The Haven well and seems relaxed. I have not been able to visit her as often as I would like due to Covid restrictions and the demands of my own health, therefore have only limited experience of the care she is receiving, but so far, so good.

My mum was a resident at The Haven for nearly 7-years. She was loved by all the staff and looked after as if she was their own mother. I couldn’t praise The Haven high enough and would recommend them to everybody. Mum passed in July 2021. She was deeply loved by all and I know they miss her as I do.

The home is in the process of being updated and the old garden room has now been made into a lovely coffee shop. On Mother's Day, we had a lovely afternoon tea in there which was delicious and the staff made a big effort for us all. A really nice touch, thank you.

Had a lovely Mother's Day afternoon tea. The service was very good and the food was really nice. Mum had a lovely afternoon with her three daughters for the first time in the last two years. It was so lovely to spend time together.

My mum came to The Haven in Jan 2020 and passed away in Feb 2022. The care my mum received was amazing, and at her end of life received amazing care. Everything was in place for her, and the staff were lovely towards my mum and my sister. Amazing care home.

I haven't had a good look around the home because of Covid, but it seems clean and there is no horrible smell. Mostly, my brother is happy. He loves the food and much prefers it to the carers he had in his home, before his fall.

Dad suffers from vascular dementia, since arriving at The Haven he has thrived. The Haven provides such care and interaction, we love seeing the photos and FaceTime calls. We also live miles away and during the pandemic, as restrictions were lifting, they have been as flexible as possible with us arranging
our visits. I cannot thank you enough.

My mother became a resident at The Haven in January 2020. She had a lovely sunny room upstairs and was cared for very well by all the staff. If there were ever any problems, a member of staff called me straight away and I was kept informed of every detail of her care. I was obviously unable to visit
during COVID but was updated regularly on Mum's well being and we tried a few Facetime calls; the staff were so accommodating. The regulations relaxed a little in August and I was able to visit Mum in the garden at an arranged time and all safety procedures were adhered to. I could see that Mum was thriving and happy. Sadly, we lost Mum in September through a stroke. At all times, every member of staff has been kind, respectful, friendly and caring. I would have no hesitation in recommending The Haven to anyone in need of a safe and loving residential home.

The Management and staff at The Haven provide an excellent Safe, Caring and Stimulating environment for their residents.
My mother has been at The Haven for 8yrs+ and I am regularly informed and updated on all aspects of the care my mother is receiving which in my view is excellent.

Overall very good. Staff are very caring. My wife's toenails need cutting. Staff are waiting for new chiropodist. Her hair has not been cut recently. She is being looked after very well.

I have worked in the care sector for over 15 years, having started off a care assistant and worked up the ladder to a registered care manager.
