The Haven is a national and regional award-winning care home registered for 32 occupants.

The Haven is known for its modern-day approach in Dementia Care using innovations and technology to enhance the support and stimulation to its residents encouraging them to live as independently as possible by receiving care and support consistent with their needs.

The Haven understands the importance of each person’s individuality and adapts a person centred approach to ensure each resident lives a life that they wish to live, whether it is menu preferences, religious and cultural needs or a trip to the pub now and then.

The Haven is set in approximately one acre of secluded land and is 5 minutes’ drive from Colchester town centre. Local amenities include bus stop directly outside, two small local shops and a church; pub and restaurants within walking distance.

The home also has 2 lounges and a dining room, with attractive views of the garden area. The grounds within which The Haven is located can be easily accessed and residents are able to make use of this beautiful area. Seating areas and are present to assist clients with poor mobility, enabling all residents to enjoy the benefits of outdoor exercise. The garden has lots of wildlife in the area, which help to create a welcoming and stimulating environment for residents and family members.

A caring place for anyone over the age of 65, male or female, who suffers from dementia, including married couples or partners, who have reached a stage in their lives where they prefer to live in a home where all the support required for daily living.

A caring team of staff provide cooked meals, refreshments, housekeeping and laundry services as well as personal care for residents.
There are numerous services offered by The Haven including regular visits by a hairdresser, chiropodist, occupational therapist and optician.

My mum came into the Haven in 2015. She has just recently celebrated her 97th birthday and she is very happy here and I'm extremely grateful for the care that she's being given. There is a whole variety of food, activities and social entertainment which myself and mum join in. I would like to think
that the care home would give me a permanent home if and when I needed it.

Couldn’t praise The Haven enough! My nan has been there for a while now and is always happy and well fed, the food is always lovely, and they even have their own snacks in their rooms. The Haven hold lots of events/activities for the family to attend and always go the extra mile! All of the staff are
lovely and polite and there to help. Being able to visit at any time is a bonus too as living far away sometimes it's hard to know when we will get there. Always welcoming when we arrive. Thanks to everyone at The Haven.

Staff treat residents with care and compassion and are always willing to help with any queries, they keep me well informed of dads health. The new Tovertafel table is wonderful I have a go at it regularly. I think this will be very beneficial to residents to stimulate them. I have seen them use it,
very happy with what home does.

I have no complaints about day staff, sometimes things go missing from my husband's room and turn up in various places in the care home. This only happens with the night staff.

My mum has been poorly recently and I cannot thank the staff enough, not only for the care they provide for my mum but their concern for me.
They are all very caring and thoughtful.
It's lovely there is no restriction on visiting times and the standard of choice of food and drinks are brilliant.

Very professional and patient when trying to converse with my mother when assessing her to see if they could meet her care needs.
Reassured me that she would be happy and settle in with the other residents.
I could visit/call them anytime if I had any concerns.
The room is adequate for her needs.
The
staff are very polite, helpful and approachable.
The food is excellent.
Mum is free to roam around anywhere within the home.
Whatever time the family visited mum, she was happy and content.
I cannot give the same level of care that The Haven can.

My husband was brought to this home from hospital where myself and my family were discussing his imminent death. Within 4 days in the home, he was not only clean and well fed, he was talking and walking like his old self. It was amazing. This was all due to a caring and loving staff who give outstanding
love to those in their care. I can't praise the staff enough.

My mother moved into The Haven around 18 months ago. I have always found the staff and management very helpful and friendly. Activities and entertainment are outstanding and there always seems to be something going on. The home also arranges trips out for residents when possible which is not something
all homes do. Food is excellent and the catering staff always ensure my mother has a varied and enjoyable diet. I believe the help and understanding from all the staff and the warm friendly atmosphere has helped to slow down the progression of my mother's illness.

Mum seems to have settled in quite well now, and it is lovely to see so many photos of her on the website doing things she has not been able to for years! She enjoys the activities, and looks a lot better in herself; she certainly enjoys the food!

The review was carried out professionally. All aspects of care for the resident were explained in detail. Was asked if there were any concerns regarding the care given. There were none as the home/staff were courteous, looked after the resident exceptionally weel - covering all his needs.

Mum has been in The Haven for the last five years. She has received very good care during her stay here. When mum first arrived, although she had dementia, visually she appeared, because of her appearance, like a visitor. She would change her clothes up to five times a day and was supported by the staff
in doing this.
She very much enjoyed the daily activities and participated at every opportunity. It is a very calm home with extremely friendly staff from the cleaners, kitchen staff, carers and management.

My aunt was in the Haven for two years and during that time was very well looked after and cared for. She was extremely happy joining in all the activities, which gave our family peace of mind. In December 2016 my aunt got pneumonia and already suffering heart failure it took its toll. The staff were
extremely attentive and compassionate. My aunt's health deteriorated on 28th December and when I arrived to be with her the staff, again, were making sure she was comfortable and keeping her company. My aunt passed away on that day and the staff turned their attention to me to make sure I was coping. I cannot praise the management and staff enough for their care of my aunt.

When I have visited it has always been friendly. We were invited to a "German night" in October where the residents were presented with German style food. What I was impressed by was the fact that the lady on the next table to us had to have purified food and instead of it being just put on a plate,
it was presented (with the help of moulds) in the colour and shape of the item ie. carrots.
They had a man to sing to them and they were encouraged by the man and staff to join in. In fact, my friend and I had a little dance. My friend tends to like "picky" food and her bratwurst was cut up so she could pick it up easily although she was given cutlery.

My mother spent a few months at The Haven this year having been cared for at home for the last few years. I cannot rate the dedication of the management and team at The Haven enough. Mum was happy and well cared for and enjoyed her last few months. Always something going on and the management are
very creative in thinking of ways to improve the home environment and experienced, not just of the residents but also the relatives too. My family and I spend the last week with mum and we were also very well cared for with nothing being too much trouble.

I have noticed the difference in my Mum since her move to The Haven. She looks happy and alert and joins in with what ever is going on in the home, instead of staying in her room like the last home she was in. She talks to and has made friends with the other residents. She no longer stays in bed,
she dresses herself which she hasn't done for a while. She seems to have picked herself up and is enjoying her surroundings more since she has been in The Haven.
