Honey Lane Care Home provides award-winning, specialist residential dementia care with warmth, love and compassion.

The skilled and experienced care team ensures that residents live well with dementia by receiving person-centred care, stimulation, and social interaction designed to make a real difference to their quality of life.

The fun and vibrant atmosphere at Honey Lane is truly unlike any other care home, and residents are encouraged to spend their days engaged in activities that are purposeful and meaningful to them. These include music and movement classes, reminiscence activities, animal therapy, as well as weekly outings to local places of interest in the minibus.

And, with soothing lighting, relaxing aromatherapy scents, tailored hand massages and sound therapy, the home’s Abbey lounge and bedrooms are transformed every day into an oasis of calm where the trained team brings comfort and pleasure to residents throughout their multi-sensory Namaste Care sessions.

Underpinned by strong community links and innovative partnerships, Honey Lane hosts a dementia support group, make a wish initiative and runs its own intergenerational project ‘Little Honey Bees’ whilst welcoming visits from local schools and charities. In 2023, their innovative approach was recognised by the Essex Care Sector, with Honey Lane winning the Making a Difference award.

Honey Lane is laid out on one floor, enabling residents to move easily and safely around the home with direct access to the beautiful central garden that offers a peaceful and tranquil space, and a kitchen garden where residents are able to get involved in a variety of gardening activities. Dottie, the loving therapy cat, also calls Honey Lane her home.

As part of Honey Lane’s commitment to high-quality dementia care, the team receives extensive on-going training and professional development to support all residents to live well.

Since March 2020 the Care Home has had 3 different managers and many of the original staff have left bar a few, including deputy managers! We have seen a massive fall in the actual care of the residents, the activities are almost nonexistent now and I’ve seen firsthand the deterioration of many. It
seems the current manager does not actually go out onto the floor and mix with any of the residents at all, when previous managers were very much hands-on and got to know each and every resident and their families that came to visit. Such a shame as the care home had better standards once upon a time. If I could afford to move my loved one now, I would.

We understand the past couple of years have been difficult for our family members due to government changes to visiting guidance which has led to less opportunity to see how we care for your loved one. I would hope you’re now able to get to better know our manager who has worked for our group for many years supporting residents living with dementia, and our deputy, again a long-standing member of our wider team. All our team are committed to spending quality time with our treasured residents, to truly understand each person and their needs. They do all they can to ensure our residents remain happy and fully supported and we always ensure we have enough team members to meet their complex needs. Our dedicated lifestyles team have and continue to create meaningful opportunities every day for our residents to take part in existing hobbies and interests, as well as support them to try new things.

Honey Lane Care Home is always welcoming, warm, clean, well lit and the staff very friendly and helpful.
I took my Mum to visit her sister who hadn't been able to visit for more time than we would have liked due to two house moves out of the area. However, we knew my Aunt would be very well cared
for and it was lovely to be welcomed by the staff.
My Aunt was warmly dressed and taking part in a music activity in the day room, which she thoroughly enjoys. We went to her room which was as clean and tidy as ever and spent several hours with her.
My Mum was very happy to see her looking so well, with neat hair and nicely cared for fingernails. She was happy and calm.
An enjoyable visit all round.

The home is very well managed with a very settled caring and committed staff team. They are invariably friendly and helpful. The home provides a stimulating and warm and friendly environment with a happy atmosphere. My aunt lived there for 8 years and she celebrated her 100th birthday there in March
with a 'lockdown' party. The home has so far remained covid-free during the pandemic!

Honey Lane No1 care home. Where else would you find such dedication and tender care with the ability to loving happiness to all the residents at all times every day whether it be personal care, entertainment, stimulation or general assistance, the carers patience never falters. The variety of home-cooked
meals with special diets catered for and red-letter day treats cannot be rivalled. All staff are approachable and keep family/relatives updated. Honey Lane always smells fresh and clean and is well maintained and offers all the facilities required in everyday life.

My Mum moved here in October and she is very happy and very well looked after. The staff are amazing and really seem to genuinely care for the residents and the activities are a huge success, which is one of the things that was high on my list when I chose Honey Lane. It is so important for the residents
to get this regular stimulation. The Christmas period was celebrated with many different activities and I love the days when children come to visit - the faces on the residents just light up!

Grandfather arrived in Dec 2018. I was reluctant to allow this to happen after caring for him for the last 10 years but I have to say it has to be the best thing ever and has been a good decision.
Grandfather has settled in well and despite not engaging with others for first three weeks the amazing
staff have been so patient and caring, encouraging daily to leave his room and most importantly to eat and drink. Thank you all so very much. You are all amazing, wonderful and lovely.

We (the family) have been very impressed by the high standard of care, hospitality, activities and entertainment we have witnessed since my mother moved into the care home just over four months ago. It has been a confusing and stressful time for all of us and the staff have always been attentive, empathetic,
patient, understanding and very helpful. They helped us make mum's room feel like a personal space and encourage her to join in with the many activities that are organised.

Angie

Angie Sacks

Job Title: Home Manager

Joined: 2022

Our Home Manager Angie joined the Carebase family at Honey Lane in 2013. Showing a natural flair for care, she quickly progressed to the role of Senior before moving in 2015 to our sister home, 1 Sewardstone Close, which cares for adults with acquired brain injury. Over the course of the next three years, she was promoted from a Team Leader to the home’s Head of Care, working closely with multidisciplinary teams including speech and language therapists and psychologists. Angie returned to Honey Lane in February 2022 as Deputy Manager.


Angie leads by example and brings a wealth of experience supporting residents, their families and our teams. She is passionate about truly understanding the differing needs of residents to deliver personalised care that enables them to live well with dementia.


Speaking about her role at Honey Lane, Angie said: “We support residents to live a life which is meaningful to them and one where they are able to spend their time doing the things they love. It’s a privilege to get to know our residents and nothing makes me happier than seeing their content and well-looked-after.”


In her spare time, Angie enjoys spending time with friends and family, reading, music, and going to the theatre.
