Okeley Care Centre is an 84 bed purpose-built care home in Chelmsford, Essex. Situated over three floors, permanent accommodation and respite rooms are provided for service users over the age of 65. Dementia care is provided on the first and second floor. All areas of the home are accessible for wheelchair users. The home has a security entry system.

My Mother went for 2 weeks respite. She very much liked the staff and the building in general. What let this place down is lack of activities and encouragement to get the residents up and motivated unlike other homes. There were no activities in the two weeks my mother was there except for local
children coming in to sing one afternoon. Management came up with excuses about staff being on holiday or ill. We asked how do we connect to wifi as my mother uses an iPod and iPad to keep up to date with family on social networking. Management look at me in disbelief that an elderly person would need wifi. Informed there was no wifi! I find that appalling in this day and age.
In general I feel that the care is very good but has a very zombie feel as resident are not even encouraged to get out of bed, making it a lonely place for many. Fortunately family would go visit and take my mother out for some interaction and sanity.
This home could be excellent if the mind was cared for too.

Hayley Gibbs

Job Title: Home Manager

Joined: 2020

I joined Excelcare in 2016 after having been with my previous care provider for 16 years and wanting to develop my career further. I started at Sweyne Court in Rayleigh where I stayed for four years. Then in 2020, the Home Manager role became available at Okeley, and I was ready for the new challenge whilst staying with Excelcare, where I love working. It was the perfect opportunity.


I enjoy making people happy and comfortable and creating
memorable moments that the people living with us can enjoy and reminisce about. It is so wonderful seeing people previously isolated become social butterflies and make new friends.


The team are kind, caring and compassionate and puts the people living at Okeley first. They are keen and willing to learn, and I hear many positive comments about them from the residents and their loved ones. I am so proud to be part of the Okeley family
