Valentine House is a care home for older people in Silver End, a small village in Essex, close to Braintree and Witham. Black Swan provides short-term, respite care and longer term support to up to 50 residents, including special support for those living with dementia.

The home underwent a large-scale renovation in 2013 and includes spacious bedrooms with ensuite facilities. There are communal areas including the lounge, a well presented dining room and quiet spaces for residents to relax in. There is also has an in-house salon where residents enjoy hairdressing and nail care appointments on a regular basis. The upper floor can be accessed via a lift.

Valentine House has a beautiful private garden with modern patios and a large lawn area backing onto the home’s private car park. The gardens are regularly used throughout the summer months with meals being served in the garden, regular barbeques, birthday celebrations and activities with the local community.

Valentine House has been rated as ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission with an ‘Outstanding’ line in the Responsive category (May 2019).

Valentine House is situated directly at the heart of Silver End, which has a row of shops and a doctor’s surgery directly opposite the home’s entrance. Next door to the home is the beautiful Silver End Memorial Garden and the nearby Church. Residents are welcome to explore the local area if they wish.

My mum has been in Valentine House since November and I cannot recommend it enough. I visit her every day and leave her knowing my mum is cared for by all the brilliant caring staff. I also see how kind and caring the staff are to all residents, not just the ones who's relatives visit regularly. They
treat each one with the care and dignity they deserve. It's important to know you have chosen the right place for your elderly relatives especially when they are not able to speak up for themselves in some cases and I can certainly say we did. Thank you to you all!

My mother was in Valentine House for about five years until her recent death at 94. For four of those years, she was bed bound. My mother always spoke highly of the level of care she received and the compassion and helpfulness of the management and staff. As well as being aware of those things myself,
I was also struck by the fact that, whenever I visited, every member of staff I saw, was unfailingly cheerful and friendly. I found it a weight off my mind to know that my mother was being cared for by the nicest and most professional staff you could hope to meet. I would recommend Valentine House to anyone.

Mum is so much better since being in this home. The interaction and care of her are brilliant. I am unable to praise them enough.
Compared to the previous home she was just left in her room, when we went to pick her up to take her to Valentine House she could hardly walk or talk. She is now doing

The carers are friendly and the interaction between them and the residents and myself has always been positive and helpful. Daily activities include everyone at the home where possible. Mum has been well looked after since day one and this has given me the peace of mind I needed to continue to work
myself. I have now applied to be a volunteer at the home.

My mum has been a resident for approximately 18 months and has settled in well. Her own words to me were it's very nice here, like home, everyone treated the same, very kind but not over the top so still have own space if you want. I am extremely happy with all aspects of the care my mother receives. I would like to suggest that residents dirty washing/laundry is kept in a bag which is collected daily and a clean bag is left for future dirty laundry. This would be much better than the current system of putting the dirty washing
in the bottom of the wardrobe as the clean clothes in the wardrobe often fall off the hangers onto the dirty washing. This is the only improvement that would enhance otherwise impeccable care.

It was with great regret that my wife had to go into a care home because of Alzheimer's.
She was admitted into Valentine House and I am very satisfied with the care she is receiving.
I cannot hope for any better care than she is getting.
The staff are second to none and can't do enough to help
her.
The food and entertainment provided are first class.
The care home, in my opinion, is one of the best there is.

I cannot speak highly enough of the staff at Valentine House; my mother has been a resident for some time now and she has always been treated with dignity and respect. The staff seem to go the extra mile for her and always make visitors very welcome. "Do you want a cuppa too?" is their catchphrase and
it makes the visits better. They really helped when we celebrated her 90th birthday and laid on food, drinks and facilities. They are great, thank you.

My mother has Alzheimer's and is diabetic. Before going into care she refused her medication, wasn't eating properly, frequently had falls, was constantly abusive towards me. Now, however, after one year at Valentine House, she is healthwise more stable, much nicer to be with. The care she receives
from the staff is first rate. My thanks to each and every member of the staff at Valentine House.
