The staff at Aarondale Lodge go beyond their duties with care, helpfulness, and compassion.
I cannot praise them enough for the consideration they have shown towards my mother and myself especially during the pandemic. I would like to place on record my thanks to everyone at Aarondale Lodge.

Reply from Sue Brown, Manager at Aarandale Lodge

I would like to say we are happy that staff are recognised for all their hard work, especially during these difficult times. I don't think staff get enough praise for the job that they do and proud of my team here at Aarandale Lodge.

Dad’s stay at Aarandale. Not an experience anyone should have to endure (even taking lockdown into account).
Lack of care, hygiene, communication, dignity. Personal items and presents, delivered to Dad by Mum, discarded and lost.
No facility to see Dad in person or via any device. The only tablet/phone
in the home (really?) was out of action all over Christmas. Mum and Dad’s first Christmas apart for 64 years - unacceptable. And not even an apology.
Very generic responses to enquires about his well-being - “he’s eating and sleeping well”. No personal details.
The deterioration in Dad was shocking. In the short time he’d been at Aarandale before we moved him, he’d become incoherent, basically immobile, filthy dirty, unshaven and wearing other residents ill-fitting clothes. He’d also developed a nasty, untreated, fungal infection due to poor hygiene, and his catheter bag was dragging on the floor.
Care? I don’t think so. Degradation and lack of respect - very much so.

Reply from Sue Brown, Manager at Aarandale Lodge

I am very shocked to read this review and disappointed that the family feel this way about the respite care their father received. Here at Aarandale Lodge we always take pride in our care that we provide here. I do feel that some of the comments made are not accurate and that Dad was very happy here during his stay and was a pleasure to have here. We will always take family's comments on board and we will always try and rectify anything that has been brought to our attention to improve our service here.

I would like to let everyone know that my grandma lived there for a few years and she was loved and looked after very well, every time I went to see her I was welcomed by staff and manager so nicely and they were so polite and caring. My grandma did activities there and she was loved and looked after.
My grandma is no longer here with us but my family would like to say thank you to all the staff and especially to the manager for the time grandma lived there.

I would like to thank the carers and staff for looking after my mother while she was staying here. My mother had Parkinson's and lost the use of her legs. She could not do anything for herself in the end so needed extra care etc. The staff were always welcoming when we visited mum and friendly and
we were glad that she was in a safe environment. Her room was always kept so lovely and clean. The staff here are very dedicated and can not do enough for their residents. There is a lovely garden there and mum loved to sit out there on a sunny day. Once again thank you very much for looking after my mum.

My grandma was treated with such great care from all staff, I couldn't thank them enough because they did everything they possibly could to make her feel safe and secure going through her stages of dementia. Every room was clean and up to the correct standard if anyone needed a hoist up and out of bed.
Grandma was never unhappy whenever my grandad when to visit her or my mum she was always happy and pleasant. I would recommend this care home to anyone in a heartbeat because the carers really do take care and pride in their work.

I cannot express the immense relief I have that my mother is no longer a resident. The environment in there is depressive, toxic and at times passively aggressive towards both residents and visitors. This is generated from the management there. The quick turnover of staff, use of agency staff constantly
and staff shortages all impact on the residents and their well-being. If the staff are not looked after then the residents won't be either. The lack of choice of food, zero activities, or resident stimulation, along with the lack of consideration for the residents' choices or dignity leaves a lot to be desired. When issues are raised they are not addressed. This review is just a small nod to my absolute dissatisfaction at the 'service' my mother received here in the hope that the local authority and regulators look deeper than the superficial aspects here and this is resolved for the other poor residents still there. Certainly not a home that 'cares'!
