With just 38 bedrooms and homely surroundings, Ashley House has a warm, family feel. The team, many of whom have been with the home for over 10 years, provides residential and respite care, which can be booked in advance.

The team is passionate about Sanctuary Care’s vision of Enriching Lives, which is based on the six senses people need to meet to feel truly happy and fulfilled – a sense of security, achievement, belonging, significance, purpose and continuity.

The residents are engaged with inspiring activities, including the Grow Your Own Way project, where the residents nurture produce they have grown from seed, which is then used in the kitchen by the chef, giving them such a sense of achievement and pride.

The residents have an active role to play in how their home is run, with Ashley House’s resident ambassadors getting involved in everything from supporting with interviewing potential staff, to providing resident feedback.

There are so many other activities to enjoy, from music and games with nursery children, who are regular visitors, animal therapy, baking, trips out into the community, arts and crafts and pampering in the hair salon.

Residents enjoy delicious, home-cooked meals in the dining room, prepared by the home’s chef. Sometimes, when living with dementia, people can struggle to make food choices, so the chef will present dishes at the table, to stimulate the senses and help residents to decide what they fancy. And every day the chef bakes cakes and other sweet treats for afternoon tea.

Ashley House also has its own bar – The Dog and Trumpet, with authentic pumps and memorabilia, where residents enjoy socialising with their favourite tipple!

There is a main lounge and lots of cosy spaces to relax with loved ones, who are welcome to visit at any time. Ashley House also has a Namaste room, where residents can relax in a sensory setting.

Excellent staff who are very caring towards residents, they are also very friendly towards visitors. The accommodation is bright and cheerful.

My husband had been in Ashley House for the past 9 months, he had been very happy there, he was extremely well looked after, fed and watered he had smiles for everyone and they had smiles for him. I do not know what I would have done without Ashley House, they treated me like their family as well, nothing
was too much trouble. I give my heartfelt thanks to all staff from the bottom to the top. Nothing is too much trouble they have the time and patience to talk things through.

My mum was a resident at Ashley House for the last 21 months of her life. Moving a loved one into a care home can be very hard emotionally and difficult for the resident. The skill of the staff ensured Mum settled well and we, her relatives were supported.
Mum thrived in the attentive care of the
manager and her staff. All staff have regular training, especially in caring for people living with dementia, many of the staff have worked there for several years. As care needs changed they seemed quick to respond to deal with this and knew Mum's preferences.
Communication is open and I always felt I could raise concerns if any, I was always informed promptly if there were any changes with Mum.
Food is plentiful and if appetite is poor residents are offered alternatives, snacks are readily available for those who like to graze.
Daily activities are varied for those who want to join in.
The garden, whilst small is a lovely place to sit in the sunshine, residents can wander there safely.

The staff all seem to know my mother well - what she enjoys doing and what she isn't keen on. She's 101 and they involve her in all the activities that help on a daily basis. She has a good appetite and enjoys the food. We couldn't be happier with the choice of home.

I come every week to take one of the residents out for a few hours. The staff have been extremely helpful and friendly from day one and I can see they care about the residents.
Because of its location there isn't too much outside space and maybe a few more outings etc would be nice but as far as care
goes which I guess is the most important it's outstanding.

My mother was a resident for three years. The care she received was excellent. The staff were always cheerful, professional and helpful. The end of life was very dignified and respectful. I was very grateful for all the help and care they provided.

I know I could not give my mother the care and support she is given at the home. Of course she would rather have stayed independent and in her own home or one of her children's homes but it is not possible with the care and attention she needs. We could not do better for her and are made very welcome
when we visit.

The staff are always friendly and welcoming and will do all they can to help. The home was very helpful and understanding in the early days which was a very stressful time for us all. The atmosphere is always bright and cheerful and feels like home. Mum is always clean and well dressed with her hair
and nails regularly done.

This unit provides care for a number of ladies whose mental capacity have deteriorated and some who also have physical disability. It is readily accessible by visitors and I have always found there are good levels of care. In a unit where there are challenges they bring a lightness of touch and enthusiasm.
The overall atmosphere is contentment. The rooms are comfortable and brightened by personal possessions of the residents. No one would volunteer - nor could they not live here - if the need ever arose this may well be as good as it gets.
