I was at Barton Lodge Care Home between May and October 2024. I was in very poor health when I arrived. Right from the word go, I received amazing attention from the team at Barton Lodge. I had a marvellous five months, taking me from the depths of despair to where I am now, back in my own home. Thanks

My mum was a resident at Barton Lodge for the last 8 weeks of her life. From our very first visit to the care home, before we were even sure we needed it, we were impressed by the friendliness and helpfulness of all the staff. We noticed that the care home manager took a personal interest in residents
while she was showing us around.
Throughout Mum's stay at Barton Lodge, she was treated with dignity, kindness, and real loving care from all the staff. Every single member of staff that we came into contact with was cheerful, kind, and caring. Staff formed a good relationship with us and kept us fully informed of Mum's care and needs. We felt that all her needs were met and the care home was able to arrange visits from the GP, podiatrist, dentist, and optician.
The quality of the environment was excellent, including the furnishings, activities on offer, and the gardens. The care home was able to give Mum some comfort and peace in her last few weeks and she received excellent care.

A wonderful place for respite. Caring, attentive staff, all well-dressed and clean, able to talk clearly. Services provided well thought through, service provided first-rate. All staff willing to help and clean and tidy room constantly.
Home in a very good condition and garden a delight to use. Plenty
of seating and whole site very secure.
My guests were welcomed and very impressed with the whole situation.
I have had a restful recovery period with no stress.

My husband has been in here for about a month. He needs an electric stand to move him to his wheelchair or seat. Nothing is too much trouble for them. They are very helpful and always cheerful from the manager down. I could have not picked a better place and he is happy there. The refurbishment is excellent,
the food is great and as a visitor regularly always made to feel very welcome.

My father became a resident at Barton Lodge following a period of daycare during the previous months. He has settled in very well. The staff at Barton have made this experience for both my parents very positive. They have been very kind and caring towards my father as well as being sensitive and respectful

My husband has started going to the day centre and is very happy there. I have found all the helpers very kind and understanding. It is difficult for me to comment on the daily routine as he has dementia and doesn't remember what he has done on the day but he comes home quite happy.

Although my mother could not stay long at Barton Lodge Care Home as she became very unwell, we were all impressed by the staff, their care of my mother and us and all in such beautiful surroundings.
We were impressed by the speed anything got done, such as a dedicated telephone line and PAT testing
and picture hanging.
We have all decided we would like to move in when our time comes.

My mum has just completed a three-week period of respite at Barton Lodge Care Home. She greatly enjoyed her time there and found all the staff so lovely. She also enjoyed the lovely, home-cooked food and had fun taking part in the activities on offer. She also loved the view over to the Needles from
her room. It was very reassuring to know that she was so well cared for and we would have no hesitation in her coming for another stay in the future.

My mother-in-law needed new bras, but the staff had noticed that from her "older" bras, she was getting a rash from them. The staff were absolutely wonderful in advising me of the type of bra that could be purchased to stop/prevent this discomfort. They advised on size, material and style - I found
that their care and kindness helped the whole process a lot easier for me, and ultimately, I was able to purchase some that my mother-in-law is happy with!

The care that all the lovely staff (kitchen, laundry, nursing staff and management - sorry if I’ve missed anyone) have shown to my father and myself has blown us both away.
They have answered any questions and concerns I have had and without exception, have gone above and beyond for us.
Although
my father is temporarily here for respite care, it is of great comfort to both of us that should he ever need to return, he will be starting with a very positive experience behind him.

Attended my father in the home on an ad hoc visit not arranged. He was up in the lounge and looked comfortable and healthy. The home is always clean and tidy, no smells of any sort. Offered tea and was made welcome. My father seemed as OK as he could be with his health problems. Staff always very helpful
and welcoming and gave us an update on his progress. Overall we are very happy with the home.

Mum has been living here for just over 15 months. During this time, the staff have shown her nothing but kindness and friendship as well as going out of their way to add those extra touches to make it feel like home. Mum doesn't like to mix much, so hasn't benefited from the multiple events the staff
put on, instead, they have put a feeding table right outside her window so she can get entertainment from watching the birds and squirrels. I can't think of anywhere else that we would want our mum to stay.

The staff are kind, patient and caring. The home has an extensive programme of activities and entertainment for the residents. Staff very accommodating. My wife always neat and tidy. I was allowed to spend time with my wife on my birthday and bring a large cake. You can visit anytime without warning. The last sentence speaks volumes about the care residents receive.

Amanda

Amanda Cooper

Job Title: Registered Home Manager

Joined: 2012

Amanda has been with us since March 2012. She is enthusiastic and approachable with an infectious smile and a sunny disposition! She sets a fantastic example to everyone at the home with her hands-on approach and helps make Barton Lodge the best home in the New-Forest Region.


Amanda holds qualifications in Health and Social Care and has completed her Master’s Degree equivalent, QCF Level 7 accreditation. She is also a Mental Health First Aider, as well as qualified trainer for safeguarding and a trainer in dementia. She continues to maintain her qualifications and knowledge through attendance at training courses and seminars throughout the year.


In her spare time, Amanda enjoys swimming, aqua-size and cycling. She also has a cat called Smudge – which she is allergic to!


Barbara

Barbara Almond

Job Title: Activities Coordinator

Joined: 2014

Barbara joined Barton Lodge in May 2014 and has a real passion for organising fun and entertaining activities. Her experience stems from her days as a Girl Guide leader and Scout leader bringing 19 years of experience to Barton Lodge. She really is an expert in her field!


Barbara’s warm, smiling and approachable character helps her build an excellent rapport with the residents and she loves seeing those smiles after an afternoon of activities! She genuinely thrives on the pleasure she feels when she sees the difference the activities make to the lives of our residents.


In her spare time, Barbara enjoys spending quality time with her family and has two dogs that keep her busy outside of work!


Jenny

Jenny Edge

Job Title: Activities Coordinator

Joined: 2018

Jenny’s first job when she left school was a Window Dresser with a well-known high street fashion retailer. Jenny then went on to achieve a City and Guilds in Floristry and run her own shop in Southbourne for five years. Jenny has N.V.Q 3 and 4 in Health and Social Care and has worked in a care home setting for more than twenty years. Activities has been a very important part of Jenny’s work.


Jenny is involved with the local Dementia Group and Café and is married with one son and three grandchildren which keep her busy. Jenny also has a Persian rescue cat named Dulcie Vita, who loves to visit the residents of Barton Lodge for cuddles.


Jenny’s hobbies include; reading, swimming, arts & crafts, aromatherapy and holistic therapies and she is just learning to knit!


Gavin

Gavin Johnson

Job Title: Maintenance Manager

Joined: 2017

Gavin oversees the upkeep of our Home and our wonderful grounds at Barton Lodge. He specialises in landscaping and gardening, which is evident from the beautiful open space we have here. Gavin can turn his hand to just about anything and is a great addition to the team.


In his spare time, Gavin enjoys spending time with his wife and 3 children and getting out for walks in the New Forest. He also enjoys boxing and is an avid Manchester United fan.

Wing

Job Title: Cook

Joined: 2023

Kam Wing Wong, known as Wing to everyone, moved with his family from Hong Kong to the UK three years ago, and they couldn't be happier with their decision.


Wing has been working at Barton Lodge since November 2023, and it has been a wonderful experience for him. He takes pride in cooking healthy and delicious meals for the residents and staff.


Wing has a passion for travelling, hiking, and most sports. Exploring the UK with his family is something they all cherish.
