With beautiful gardens and communal areas, spacious bedroom suites, a library and bistro café, Basingfield Court has some wonderful spaces to enjoy. But it’s the team which makes this home special.

Devoted to enriching the lives of their residents, activities are a huge part of life in the home, where the team provide residential, dementia and pre-bookable respite care.

The home has magnificent large gardens. With new furniture, these have just been revamped with the help of community volunteers, who have also created a pond. The residents are nurturing their own herbs and veg from seed, as part of the home’s gardening project, which will then be used in the kitchen.

The residents enjoy seated yoga, visualisation and meditation classes every week, as well as Zumba and dance. There are also twice weekly visits from a mobile hairdresser, who has been pampering residents in the salon for 30 years!

There are monthly cultural days, where the residents learn facts about different countries and the chef creates authentic cuisine, with everything from Spanish and Greek to Italian, where residents helped make pizzas. The chef makes home-cooked meals every day and is a talented baker, with freshly-baked cakes for afternoon tea. The residents often get involved in baking activities. And new to the menu are the cheese and pâté suppers.

The home has a beautiful bistro to relax in with loved ones, who are welcome to visit at any time. It also has its own private family and friends Facebook page, filled with photos and videos of what the residents have been enjoying.

The home is very much part of the local community, with school children visiting regularly for crafts and bingo.

Animal visits are also popular at Basingfield Court, from guinea pigs and rabbits to Shetland ponies.

My mother passed recently and I wanted to thank Basingfield Court for everything they did to make Mum's last few days comfortable. Everything was done with great dignity and loving care for her. The staff were amazing and a true asset to the care home. They should be recognised for their service not
only for my mum but for me and my family in this hard sad time. They were wonderful. Thank you for everything and I would happily recommend the care home to anyone looking for a homely and friendly environment for their parents.

2 visits over one weekend, staff friendly and knew where to find my mother (and who she was). Took her out, warm greeting on return. On her birthday, I arrived at the home to happy birthday banners and balloons. The home provided a birthday cake and made every effort to make it a happy occasion. Tea
and biscuits are provided regularly throughout the day and I have not been there for meal times.

Dad has been at Basingfirld Court since January 2022. The hard work, dedication and excellent care my dad has received have been amazing. The care staff show so much love to Dad and he is always saying how lovely they all are. The dedication of the activities coordinator and her activities with Dad
have brought out his creative side and his pictures are all displayed in his room. The door is always open for us to talk to the management team. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Originally I thought this place was perfect. It was clean and tidy and spacious rooms, also friendly staff. After accepting my mother into their care I learned my mum had escaped after one day and was so upset when some personal belongings had gone missing. I decided I had to take her out, still no
outcome on this matter, very poor aftercare.

My father has been at Basingfield Court for nearly 5 years now.
He is very well looked after by an amazing team of staff. His room is spacious and homely and always clean. His personal care is always done with care and although he needs a bit of help at mealtimes he is enjoying his food!
I am so grateful
for the care the staff give my dad, especially through the last 2 years, I have always been kept up to date with how Dad is and what is going on in the home.

The team at Basingfields Court go above and beyond to ensure the residents there are well looked after both physically and mentally. My mum has been in the home since April 2021. It has been such a hard time for care staff and residents in Care Homes although you wouldn't know this when you go to Basingfields
as the staff are always so upbeat. Every time I have gone to see my mum or have emailed Basingfields the staff there are always super cheerful will bend over backwards to help and work so hard to ensure their residents are having the best life! After living in her previous home for 57 years mum's move to a new home was always going to be quite traumatic. The care and reassurance all the staff at Basingfields provided meant my mum settled really quickly and is thoroughly enjoying life again. I never ever wanted my mum to go into a home, but after seeing what Basingfields offer how very stupid was I to feel like this. I really hope the staff realise how much good they do.

My mother became a resident in October 2020. She says that the carers are very kind, she enjoys the food and says her room is very nice. I have found the staff to be kind, caring and helpful. Obviously visiting is difficult due to COVID, so I have not been inside the home. I have been able to look through
the window and see into my mother’s room. It is spacious and I look forward to being able to visit her inside the home at some point. The recently erected pod provides a good environment for visiting in these difficult times.

My mum moved into Basingfield Court in March 2020 just before the first lockdown. It was a very difficult time for everyone but the staff did their best to help Mum settle in and make new friends. The manager was very aware as Christmas approached what a terribly difficult year this had been for all
the residents and she put together a programme of Christmas activities and entertainment to help everyone celebrate Christmas in style. There were Christmas crafts, games and presents. Every single member of the team went all out to ensure that every resident had a Christmas to remember. On Christmas day when the team must have been missing their own families the staff were in fancy dress and going the extra mile to make Christmas as happy as it could be for the residents. My mum had a lovely day and I took comfort from knowing that while she could not be with me this year she was being looked after and well cared for. The manager and her team really do put the care into care home.

During the lockdown, the staff have been great at keeping the residents safe and happy. We have been kept up to date with what has been going on with our mum, being able to speak to her via facetime and more recently face to face. By booking a time slot is great.

Overall, Basingfield provides good levels of care from a hard-working, dedicated and compassionate team.


However, a recent marked decline in the quality, frequency and delivery of activities available for residents is a definite cause for concern.


This is currently below the standard expected

My cousin moved into Basingfields in February 2016 when she relocated from West Yorkshire. She had become very isolated in her last few years in Yorkshire and after several falls she spent week sin hospital. Moving her to Basingstoke was undoubtedly the right thing to do and the team at Basingfields
made her so welcome that she settled into life at Basingfields very quickly. The time she spent at Basignfields before she passed away on 4th January 2020 was probably the most enjoyable period of her last decide. The secret of the Basingfields success is the way that the team care for residents, treat them with respect and take a genuine interest in them as individuals.

Although the facility is nice to look at, and most of the staff are kind and caring, Basingfield still leaves some things to be desired for those residents who are still mentally fit and alert. Since the sudden departure of the activities co-ordinator, there have been precious few activities that continue
to appeal, eg. there have been promises of trips out by minibus but none arranged, and those few trips that have been offered have all carried a supplementary cost, which residents on fully funded placements cannot afford to take up. The facility has also faced challenges in getting a decent catering service. Chefs come and go and the quality of food is often poor. The mainstays appear to be sausages (in all forms), and mince, (lamb and beef). As food is the highlight of many people's day, is quality too much to expect?

Zina Kenk

Job Title: Home Manager

Joined: 2022

I joined the team at Basingfield Court as a deputy manager last year, before becoming manager earlier this year. As a team we deliver great care for our residents, working closely with professionals and supporting residents’ families and loved ones.


My career in care started over 10 years ago, working as a carer alongside studying. I have recently completed my level 5 Management in Health and Social Care and will continue to study and learn in my role.


Caring for people is very important to me. I enjoy doing things that will either help someone or change someone’s life, even in a small way. Here at Basingfield Court, our wonderful team support in enriching residents' lives every day. It makes me feel that I am a part of something very special.
