Applewood is a residential care home offering dementia care. It was rated 'Good' by the CQC in 2019, placing it among the top care homes in England.

Applewood is a very active home, where all residents are encouraged to live life to the full and participate in everyday tasks and with trips out.

The home is an attractive, old building with a purpose-built extension and many of the rooms are ensuite. The garden has been landscaped with a seaside theme and the garden is secure and often used by residents in the spring and summer time.

Activities such as seed planting and vegetable planting take place, along with garden parties and games. The dining room looks out onto the well maintained garden grounds as well as a garden lounge having access to the garden.

All food is freshly prepared each day, with a choice of delicious meals on offer.

There are also day care opportunities for those who would like to try spending the day at Applewood to get a flavour of the home and what's on offer.

It has been a difficult year for both families and care homes alike under these lockdown conditions when visits have been so restricted, even so, l felt confident that Applewood could still give my wife the care and attention that she needed and keeping us informed when necessary. When we were able
to visit we were welcomed back by the staff like old friends and we have missed seeing them as much as they have missed seeing us. My wife has been a resident for over 3 years and during her time at Applewood has been given the best care, which is so reassuring for our family.

A beautiful care home set in beautiful surroundings. Staff are friendly, professional and providing the highest standard of care. Residents are kept busy and occupied and have lots of activities to do. Doesn't feel like a care home but more like one big family.

Lovely, friendly staff. Very impressed with all aspects of their services and the care and time given to the residents. Nice rooms and nice food. Staff always on hand to provide help and support to the family. They have looked after my mum fantastically through the pandemic.

I have been so impressed by the way that the manager/assistant manager and all of the staff have dealt with the extremely difficult situation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. They have kept Mum safe and well cared for, organised the most wonderful activities and kept us informed about safety measures
and how they plan to carefully start to allow visitors again, to ensure all their hard work is not undone by a case of the virus.

Great care is shown to my wife, particularly the neatness and tidy bedroom kept for her to make her feel comfortable and at home. On my wife's birthday in March of this year, the care staff made a cake for her that made her feel still part of our family back home. This was a wonderful gesture on behalf
of the staff at Applewood.

Mum has lived at Applewood for nearly 3 years. She is treated with dignity and respect. She is well cared for by the lovely staff. Management and staff keep me well informed regarding any health issues. I am made to feel welcome when I visit my mum. There are plenty of activities going on for Mum
to join in if she wants to. I feel that I have been kept well informed of every step Milkwood have taken to keep the residents and staff safe during this difficult isolation period. Well done Applewood.

Choosing a care home for a loved one isn't easy but the moment I stepped inside Applewood I felt 'comfortable'. The home is very clean and well presented throughout - homely. All the staff, the domestics, the kitchen staff, the carers and the management team are lovely people, friendly and helpful.
My mum has been a resident for just over a year. She is always treated respectfully whilst being well looked after both physically and mentally. She says the food is wonderful and enjoys the company. Conversation, activities and entertainment form an important part of life in the home, keeping residents happy and stimulated. Communication with the home is great and any issues regarding Mum's health are promptly discussed and resolved. I am confident Mum is in the right home.

My great aunt currently lives at Applewood. I have been so impressed by the care provided by the staff there; Meaning our family have had no worries during lockdown over my aunt's wellbeing. We love how they post regular updates on Facebook. The activities they get everyone involved in is so lovely
to see! As a social worker myself, I visit a lot of care homes, and I can honestly say this is one of the most caring and welcoming homes I have been into. Well done to all the staff there!

I highly commend Applewood for maintaining the home a safe environment during the Covid pandemic. Whilst it has been difficult not being able to visit loved ones, Applewood quickly created a Facebook page for relatives and friends which they update regularly with photos of daily activities.
With the
opportunity to connect virtually via Facetime we can keep a close connection and I've been able to give mum a tour of the garden. Great to see this generation embracing technology.

This care home aims to stimulate their residents with many types of activities in the afternoons. This provides both mental and physical exercise for them. There seems to be plenty of laughter from the residents during these times so they are clearly enjoying themselves.
The food seems to be good and
plentiful. My husband looks clean and well-fed, although I can only judge from what I see online at the moment.
He is calm and is not complaining about anything.

Our Aunt moved into Applewood in October 2019. From day one, Applewood was a very welcoming home and all the staff are extremely helpful. Nothing is ever too much trouble. It is peace of mind that she is in a safe and loving environment. Whenever I visited before lockdown, the home always had a lovely
atmosphere.
At all times our Aunt is encouraged to take part in activities, and more recently since the lockdown, a number of photos are on social media seeing her enjoying herself, which is obviously nice to see. Credit to the manager and staff for keeping Applewood a safe place in these difficult times. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending Applewood to family and friends.

The staff are what makes Applewood so special. They are all so patient, respectful and caring and seem to enjoy being with the residents and what they do.

My Mum has lived at Applewood for 4 years, she moved in as a self-caring ambulant lady and has slowly over the years become wheelchair dependent needing full help with every aspect of her care. Applewood has responded to her changing needs seamlessly, and appropriately. I absolutely bless the day we
found this lovely ‘home’ everyone is great. The management team, the domestics, the kitchen staff, the activity team, everyone deserves a mention. It has become a second home for me too over the last 6 months as mum has been very poorly and I am always made to feel more than welcome.

The staff are all very professional, friendly, helpful and caring with the residents, the home is clean and has a warm friendly feeling. The residents are kept entertained with trips out and daily entertainment at the home. I cannot express enough how caring the staff are with all the residents.

My mother has lived in Applewood for nearly a year. I chose Applewood because I first encountered a group on a trip to a museum and was impressed with the professionalism and care exhibited by the carers. I didn't even look elsewhere and they haven't disappointed me. It amazes me the effort put in
by all members of staff. They are so kind. Each person is treated with such respect and dignity. I visit my mother almost daily and it doesn't matter what time I call in there is nearly always something going on, with a huge array of different activities. The kitchen staff are just as accommodating, making lovely cakes on a regular basis. The conviction that I have is that it is not just because I'm here that they make the effort. It's an ethos everyone demonstrates daily.

Applewood provides a caring environment with empathetic staff who treat residents with respect and patience. As visiting relatives, we are always warmly welcomed and made to feel part of the applewood "family". My Mum is treated with dignity and is spoken to in a loving manner which is reassuring.

My mother was a resident for 3 and a half years. During this time, she received the best of care, partaking in the outings and activities, enjoying a much more stimulating existence than whilst previously living on her own, it was good to hear her laugh again.
She was treated with respect and dignity
and came to love many of the staff.
Whenever a medical professional was required, Applewood either arranged for a Doctor or Optometrist to visit or Mum was taken to the Audiologist. All the' worry' about Mum was taken over by the wonderful staff and I was able to be a daughter again.
At the age of almost 98, Mum came to the end of a long and happy life, the staff were so caring and made this difficult time much easier for my sister and I. We can find no fault whatsoever with Applewood Care Home or the NHS.

The staff are very helpful in various ways.
