Downs House is situated amid beautiful Hampshire countryside, less than a mile from the thriving market town of Petersfield. It was established in 1976 and has been providing high quality care to the people of Petersfield and the surrounding villages ever since.

The accommodation consists of 46 tastefully appointed and fully furnished bedrooms. Residents can make use of the delightful public areas, which include a large lounge, sun lounge and orangery which open onto a lovely landscaped gardens, there is wheelchair access throughout the home and gardens.

After a struggle to settle in at the end of last year, mum is now very happy. It was a huge change, especially for someone living with dementia. The staff are second to none, very caring and attentive. My mum has embraced the activities especially singing and dancing. She loves to be busy and there
is lots going on to occupy her. The food is great (especially the lovely home made cakes' which I have sampled on more than one occasion!) there is such a warm and inviting atmosphere at Downs House, it is a pleasure to visit mum. So glad we chose Downs House!

Overall I am very happy with my mums care, food is really good, care is great. It has taken her a while to settle in but 3 months on she is getting used to her new home and accepting it. Its just up the road from my home which is great. The staff are all very patient and understanding with her. Very
friendly and welcoming every time I come in. Overall I am very pleased with the care mum gets.

My sister-in-law is being extremely well looked after. The care and attention she receives is second to none. She is always clean, tidy and in good spirits. Her state of mind has improved since going to the home as all the worry of domestic chores and the everyday task of looking after herself have
been removed. The home provides stimulating outings as well as in house entertainment. The staff are kind, caring and efficient. If I have a question about my sister-in-laws care there is always a member of staff to answer my query. Her room is very nice and south facing gets lots of sunshine. There are also French Windows with access to the well tended garden which my sister-in-law loves. She goes for little walks twice a day. She says the food is excellent and if she feels like something between meals there is always a willing member of staff to provide it. All in all we are very pleased my sister-in-law is being looked after in Downs House where she is happy and contented.

My dad moved to Downs House last autumn and has a lovely garden room with his own bathroom. He has a bird feeder and flowers just outside his window, and a door into the garden so he can sit out there when the weather is warmer. He is well looked after by caring staff who provide plenty of activities
for him. He also enjoys the meals provided. Downs House has been an excellent choice.

When we first took my brother to take a look at Downs House he was amazed that such a place existed and delighted that he was going to be staying there. I cannot speak highly enough about the care and attention given to him during the 2 months he was there. A challenging time for all as he was taken
ill and admitted to hospital for a while. Extra equipment was put in place to look after him on his return. The Manageress and every member of staff were so caring and kind. We were welcomed with open arms on each visit and every carer knew exactly how my Brother was that day. Encompassing a library, coffee bar, TV room, orangery and dining areas. The atmosphere is warm, friendly and uplifting. My brother was very happy enjoying the varied range of entertainment and activities when he was able. Downs House is in a beautiful country setting with terraces on which to dine under the magnificent Chestnut Tree and inside welcoming and homely. Wonderful.

Downs House is a friendly, homely place to visit. The staff are lovely, and very caring, and take an interest in the various different 'types' of residents. They are welcoming when one arrives to visit, and always helpful. Indeed, staff will sometimes go 'above and beyond' looking after an individual

Gramps has been here for two years, and he has vastly improved since he joined the home. The staff are super loving, caring and fun, he gets involved with many weekly activities (dancing and singing are his favourites), and he also takes trips out weekly. The manager is incredible, she is very caring,
protective and fun - and you can be assured any issue will be swiftly resolved. All in all, this is a beautiful place for your loved one to be taken care of!

My mother moved here at Christmas 2023, and she seems as content as can be expected. I am very impressed by all the staff, their care, attentiveness and kindness are apparent. Downes House offers a wide range of activities and encourages my mother to take part, for which I am grateful. My mother’s room
is light and spacious and is always spotlessly clean and tidy, as is the rest of the house.
I am always made to feel welcome and part of a family when I visit. My mother looks well and content, clean and well looked after. The food is excellent, and it is nice to be welcomed to have lunch with my mother if I need to. Good communication too.

Just had the most amazing afternoon tea at Downs House to celebrate Mother's Day. The chef and all the staff put in such effort to make the tea memorable. The sandwiches and cakes were plentiful and delicious. I shared the tea with Mum and her best friend at the home and they had a lovely time. Mum
has been at Downs for nearly 4 years and I am so happy with the care she receives. She constantly tells me how much she loves her room and how happy she is there. It brings such peace of mind to know that she is well cared for and happy.

From my initial visit with Mum to Downs House, to Mum moving in in July 2023, I have felt happy with the relaxed atmosphere and friendly, approachable staff. No question is met with apathy and humour and understanding are present on every visit. Mum has settled well, despite her initial reluctance
to leave her 'own home' (as most residents also feel no doubt). The activities on offer are expansive and cater for all. Family and friends are all happy to visit. Thank you.

I am welcomed by a team of friendly carers. I am so happy with them and we frequently have to stop laughing until we can continue. I also enjoy occasional visits to local sights, gardening and planting. I also like painting and music programmes. I feel safe here like I am at my own house, thank you

I was so worried about putting my dad in a care home, it was one of the hardest things I have ever done. But thanks to the manager and all the staff at Downs House they made it so easy and advised me on how to approach this difficult task, they have all been outstanding, helpful and so empathetic about
the whole process. I went to see him today and he is so much happier there than he has been for a long time. He feels safe and is well looked after and is enjoying himself after some months of being anxious and unhappy. Downs House has a bright and cheerful feel about it and I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending it as an exceptional home for the elderly.

My step-father has been at Downs House for about a year. From day one it has been great for him and for me to know how safe, well cared for, happy and is the best home of all those I checked out. Not as posh as some but so good in terms of intelligent, thoughtful, kind, generous and reassuring care.

We will never be able to thank the amazing Downs House staff enough for the kind, caring and professional way in which they cared for our dad in his final weeks. Even though he was only at the home a short time, they made him (and us) feel like family. And they gently cared for all of us when his time
came. After hair raising experiences at other care homes, I cannot rate this wonderful team more highly and they made this challenging time a little more gentle with their love and care.

The Downs House became our parent's home after Dad had a stroke in 2009. At first, we tried care in their house for Dad, but it was not satisfactory, and Mum was lonely. They were so much happier at the Downs House. The carers were wonderful - kind, professional, respectful and always available. Mum
especially enjoyed the food and activities, such as sing-a-longs, crafts, quiz games, flower gardening and virgin G&Ts with her Downs House girlfriends. After Dad passed, Mum was increasingly supported by the loving staff due to her own health and mobility issues. We want to personally thank the carers and management for their kindness and for making a true home for Mum and Dad. The Downs House was Mum's home for almost twelve years, and we were always happy we had chosen it.

Mum was always fiercely independent and never wanted to go into care but, unfortunately, the time came when she could no longer cope on her own, especially being on the Isle Of Wight. Due to my own health issues, I was unable to care for her myself, so I wanted somewhere for her that I felt comfortable
with. Downs House felt like the right place straight away and, once mum settled in, she was very happy there for over 5 years.
