My godmother has been at Hillyfield for nearly 18 months and says she is so lucky to have ended up there. She is always smiley and cheerful. The staff are cheerful and welcoming and always go out of their way to make everyone comfortable. In times of illness, we have seen exceptional care. The standard
of food is excellent as well and there are plenty of activities and functions to keep the residents engaged. We can't speak too highly of it in every way.

Reply from Kelsie Herbert, Manager at Hillyfield Rest Home

We are so glad that your Godmother is happy here! She is a pleasure to care for and is always cheerful.

I have found living here quite delightful. I have made new friends and we all have been enjoying each other's company. The staff are so kind and helpful and we have a lot of fun together. My room is lovely and I overlook the garden and we also have a summer house which we use. The food is excellent
and I have many visitors so miss going out on the bus at times. My family are pleased that I am here.

My mum has been staying at Hillyfield Rest Home since November last year and I have been nothing less than thoroughly impressed with the level of care and the way this home is run. Mum is obviously happy, entertained and enjoying herself! They really do go the extra mile, and in my mum's case, that
is quite literal as she does love a walk. So, a big thank you to the manager and the team!

My sister suffers from dementia and needed respite care on discharge from hospital. Fortunately, Hillyfield had a room available.
On arrival the manager met us with a friendly welcoming approach, relaxing my sister, her son and myself, we were taken to her room which was light, airy and spacious, my
sister was tired wanting to lay on the bed.
After a few questions, the manager had done a risk assessment of my sisters needs, saying if we move the bed next to the wall, there will only be one exit point, then getting a pressure mat for the floor explaining it would alarm when she got out of bed at night.
The home has a welcoming family, friendly, atmosphere when visiting.
The staff are wonderful, compassionate, understanding, kind, patient and are always around talking and mixing with the residents. The home cooked food is amazing.
After two weeks my sister is happy,y settled and saying Hillyfield is first class.
The standard within this small care home is outstanding. Thanks to the manager and all her team.

My grandpa moved into Hillyfield Rest Home in April 2023 and seems to have settled in fantastically! I was initially anxious about him going into a home but Hillyfield is warm, inviting and the staff are all lovely! It’s changed my perspective on care homes completely! It’s so nice to see him happy
and well looked after

What a fantastic home.
I am truly blown away by the standard of care here. Due to my parents both having Alzheimer's/dementia, we had to move them down here from London in Jan 2023. Since they've been there, every single want and need has been lovingly attended to, with minimal fuss. The cleanliness,
cosiness of the rooms, the home cooked food, the laundry, the surroundings are all fantastic. The manager is wonderful. There is good communication on a regular basis, and teething problems are ironed out as soon as possible. The staff truly care about what they do and form a lovely bond and friendship with the people in the home.

Sending a loved one to a home is never an easy decision, let alone two at the same time. But this home have made the experience relaxed, comfortable, and I have no worried. I can sleep well at night knowing my parents are receiving the best level of care we could hope for.

Mum has been at Hillyfield Rest Home for about seven weeks and the change in her over that time has been phenomenal. We brought her straight from hospital following an earlier fall, still poorly, with painful joints and very limited mobility. Since moving in she has been so much happier, no longer weighed
down by cares and worries, but happy, laughing and joking. The staff worked hard to get her room ready and it's been beautifully decorated and fitted out.
There's a relatively small number of residents so it's a proper community where everyone knows each other and each person is known and valued as an individual. The staff are amazing and there's a great ethos which is shared by everyone you meet. We were invited to the Christmas meal, together with the family members of other residents, and it was such a good time - to be together with Mum in such a supportive environment. The food was great too!

We were lucky enough to find a room at Hillyfield Rest Home for my Dad in October following several bouts of illness and my 87 year old mother not being able to cope any more with him at home. He had been in other care settings but we knew the minute he and we arrived at Hillyfield this was the one
for him. As it turned out it was to be the last 3 months of his life so we were so grateful for the fantastic staff, the excellent levels of care and just the overall feeling of home away from home that he and we experienced there. Everyone that visited him felt the same. You just get a feeling there of attentive and good clinical care but also a friendly family feel. I don't know how they do it but I couldn't recommend them and the home enough to anyone who is looking for something smaller and more caring. Thanks for all your hard work and attention to my dad. He really was happy with you.

My mother has been a resident since November when Hillyfield Rest Home gave her a room at short notice after an accident, resulting in her being in a cast.
My mother has had visits from myself, our family and many of her village friends who have seen others in many different homes.
My own view
is that Mum was constantly smiling with the contact with the most lovely staff, and amazing food which she always mentions. She always had something going on with the activities and she was taken for outside exercise with other more mobile residents. Every member of the staff, without exception, have been wonderful.
All her friends have told me that this is the best care home they have seen, often telling me that we really must keep her there - which we are doing! When they visit, they are offered tea/coffee in china mugs with such attention to detail.
In summary, amazing in every way.

Hillyfield came to our rescue! We have been using home care for a while but my mother, who has dementia, fell recently dislocating her wrist requiring her arm to be in plaster for six weeks. Meaning she would not be able to live on her own. The home care team mentioned they had a care home in Milford-on-Sea,
which has been an absolute godsend. My mother has been living there ever since. Mum was welcomed in and has been looked after by a whole team of really lovely, caring people who genuinely want to look after her and make it feel like a home from home. Hillyfield arranges a number of outings in the local area for the residents, which they all love. And perhaps the best accolade, many of Mum's friends who visit her and who have seen many more care homes than I have, all comment on how special Hillyfield is compared to others they have visited.

It would be impossible to overstate the gratitude my brother and I have for the way our mother was cared for by the wonderful staff at Hillyfield in the last 18 months of her life. Most importantly, she was extremely happy; we could see that, and she would certainly have let us know if she wasn't! The
staff are unfailingly caring, thoughtful, good-humoured, patient, welcoming and kind to residents and visitors. They all get on well together and take pride in what is incredibly demanding work. Hillyfield has a lovely atmosphere and is always clean. Mum absolutely loved the food there, which is all cooked from scratch, including the cakes. She also very much enjoyed lots of the activities. At the end of her life, a sad time was made easier by the exemplary care. Mum was treated with outstanding compassion and genuine affection, and we were also shown incredible kindness by all the staff, along with invaluable support and guidance from the manager. Thank you all so much.

I have been deeply impressed with the care shown by all members of staff I have had contact with since my mother entered Hillyfield in November 2021.
This has extended to myself as well as to my mother.
The level and standard of communication has been high, and the sensitivity shown has been much
appreciated.
The staff at all levels have always been approachable in my experience and willing to help despite being under pressure .

Hillyfield Rest Home cared for our Mum from June 2021 to her passing in August of this year. We cannot thank the staff enough for their kindness, particularly in her final weeks. The care she received was always delivered with courtesy, respect and kindness and her family were always made to feel
welcome whenever visiting. Hillyfields is a small rest home that has a lovely homely feel which was exactly why we chose it for our Mum and she was always very happy during her time there.

My auntie had been at Hillyfield Rest Home for 3 years and was so happy to be there. She was so well looked after which made us feel she was in a safe environment. Well-fed, the food is made from scratch and wholesome and the entertainment is excellent. I enjoyed it myself on my visits. Her room was
clean and comfortable, as is the rest of the home. She enjoyed the day trips out in the minibus, the garden is a lovely garden to sit in and chat with other residents. The TV in the lounge is big enough for everyone to see. Overall, we have been very impressed with Hillyfield Rest Home and Auntie's care right to the end of her life was with dignity and kindness.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.578)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.578) out of 10 for Hillyfield Rest Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.878 for Hillyfield Rest Home is calculated as follows: ( (73 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 82 Ratings = 4.878

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.7 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hillyfield Rest Home is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 17 registered maximum number of service users is 3.4, which has been reached with 7 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
