Oaklands Care Home was first set-up in 1983 and has been under the present ownership since January 1988. Oaklands was for many years a farmhouse and the original building dates back about 200 years.

A large purpose-built extension was added in 1990 and the adjacent house was acquired in June 2005 which is now joined to the main home. It provides a further two spacious single rooms with en-suite facilities. A further extension was added to the home in mid-2007 with the addition of extensive communal spaces and an upgrade to existing facilities taking place at the same time. Upgrading of rooms is an ongoing process, the new salon/bathroom has recently opened, offering a personal experience to service users.

The home has an attractive garden space at the rear and most of the ground-floor rooms have their own patio doors leading onto small personalised garden areas. The enclosed garden area at the rear is often used during the summer months for parties and celebrations. Residents and their families can spend time together in the garden when visiting if they so wish.

The home has a large central lounge for residents and their guests to use. There is a spacious dining room although residents may prefer to take meals in their rooms.

I would recommend this warm and friendly care home to anyone looking for a warm family residence. The management and warm, friendly and caring staff are wonderful. They have always catered to my family's needs. Also, whenever there are special events, everyone joins in to celebrate, including birthdays,
fetes and Christmas parties. They are wonderful people.

The home is friendly, great atmosphere, nothing is too much trouble. Very welcoming and always have a smile on their faces. Care is fantastic and they always make sure our relative is happy and well looked after. Not only is the support brilliant for dad we are kept informed at all times and informed
of any changes. Dad is always saying he is well cared for and they are all so nice to him and gets on so well with them all. Lovely home.

As I live in Vancouver, Canada, my sister arranged for my mother to be taken in at this care home. When returning to Canada after a visit, I always felt confident my mother was receiving the very best care. The staff really do go the extra mile and are always positive and caring with what can be very
challenging residents. Much of the credit must go to the manager, who is very firm and very caring, an excellent manager who inspires great confidence in the residents and also in the families. The last 3 years have been much less a worry knowing mum was being well looked after. The food is very good, freshly cooked and only fresh vegetables are used. 'Excellent'.

For the last year mum has continually been having water infections and this last month due to the ongoing care and persistence of the staff encouraging mum to drink and doctors giving the correct medication, I now visit a much happier and healthy mum. Well done Oaklands for not giving up and keeping
assuring me we could get mum better.
I also feel that for this last year I have always been able to talk to management and staff when I have any concerns or worries which is always good to have.

My Mum was initially taken in for respite care 3 years ago. However, when it was clear that my Dad could not longer care for her himself this became permanent. All the staff here have been exceptional in catering for Mum's welfare, and this has been extended to my Dad, as well, on his frequent visits.
She had her own en suite room, which was always kept immaculate. Her personal hygiene was well tended and clothes well laundered and changed daily.
The food always smelled good, and was freshly cooked and served. There are regular visits from hairdresser and chiropodist.
All visitors are warmly welcomed, and their functions always well attended.

My husband was in Oaklands Care Home for 2 years and 3 months. He had the best care in the world up until he passed away on the 22nd of October 2015. All the residents at Oakland are treated the same, with loving care and dignity. Good food and the entertainment is first class, the manager and staff
can't do enough for them all. Thank you all.

Current Review Score: 7.9 (7.911)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 7.9 (7.911) out of 10 for Oaklands is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 1 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.2 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.750 for Oaklands is calculated as follows: ( (9 Excellents x 5) + (3 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 12 Ratings = 4.75

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.161 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Oaklands is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 31 registered maximum number of service users is 6.2. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 6.2 = 0.161

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
