The care at Old Raven House is constantly very good. Staff are always bright and friendly chatting freely with all the residents in a manner personal to each individual so that the individual can respond comfortably in conversation according to that resident's interests and needs.

Each of my visits

and contact with Old Raven House confirms that my decision to choose Old Raven House for my friend was exactly right.

Staff always respond to residents needs with great respect.

Since my last review in December 2016, I still visit most days to see my wife who has Alzheimer's. She still gets the consistent care from the dedicated staff and the manager and her professional team give us endless support. The food is still of a high standard and cleaning and laundry are ongoing
daily.

There are indoor activities and in summer, trips out to various attractions. The gardens are large and well kept so residents and visitors can sit and enjoy.

A very welcoming home.

Having experienced two "Hell Homes" last year, Old Raven and the staff have proved that "Care Home" is just that.
Real care, compassion and home from home.
I am so lucky to have such a wonderful residence for my wife.

Looking after dementia suffering residents is never going to be easy as each resident is very much an individual with their own very personal problems. To achieve this it is crucial that the staff have both the necessary training and the relevant compassion. The staff at the Old Raven have this which
in my opinion is down to the leadership of the Manager and the management skills of the senior team who lead by example. I have slightly marked down the safety and security as they have only one access which is used by both vehicles and pedestrians. The expensive high tech solution would be to get every resident to wear a microchip necklace which alarmed when crossing the gate threshold.

This is a place where I know my Nan feels at home and where I can see she can be herself. I can also see that she is celebrated for her humour and occasional ‘interesting’ choice of language too!

Since living at The Old Raven, Nan looks healthier than she has in years, mainly because she now has

great food and people who genuinely care about her and all the residents.

Every time I visit, I see tonnes of patience and understanding - consistently and from all staff.

To us, that is priceless.

Dad has been living at Old Raven House since 2016 and staff have consistently provided high levels of care. The manager and her staff are extremely well organised and dad is treated with dignity and respect at all times. He has formed close trusting relationships with staff and it's comforting to see
how well his individual needs are continually being met.

The staff here really care about the residents. My mum's key support worker looks after Mum as if she was her own mother.
Nothing is too much for the staff, day and night they are there to support the residents and their families.
As a family, we love to visit and are made very welcome.

Old Raven House is a caring and friendly environment for its residents and its staff are characterised by their kind, compassionate and positive attitude towards residents and their families and friends. No question or suggestion goes unanswered and their quest to do the best for individual people in
their care is second to none. Family meetings and individual care plan reviews have left us with reassurance about the depth of understanding about Mum and their quest to improve life for her and others.

Old Raven go the extra mile to entertain the residents. Their programme of activities went far beyond others when I searched for a place. The Facebook page is an absolute favourite with our extended family who are cheered by seeing her enjoying herself. The menagerie of animals is a particular favourite with Mum. Their encouragement for her to have a budgie in her room has proved to be a fantastic success.
Thank you to the manager and your staff for the piece of mind brought by your care.

A very comfortable home.
Very friendly and highly competent staff.
Lots of activities are organised to keep the residents occupied and amused, including trips out, musical entertainment, crafts and clubs, as well as pet therapy.
The food is also excellent.

My Mum is very happy and well cared for. The manager and staff are always around when I visit and are very approachable if I need to ask anything. My Mum is less mobile now so is happy sitting in the lounge and is always included in the activities going on if she wants to join in. All good!

I cannot fault the Old Raven. The staff are always on hand to answer any questions of queries. My husband always looks clean, tidy and care is taken about his appearance. i.e colour co-ordinated. His individual needs over the last five years, which have not always been the easiest to deal with, have
been met in a safe and secure way and always with a smile.

Overall the standards are very good. The activities organised are varied and considerable thought and time is put into their preparation and delivery.
The staff are very approachable and responsive, with some key workers being outstanding in their engagement and care for the residents.

Reply from Gillian Hepworth, Proprietor at Old Raven House

Dear Graham,
Thank you so much for being kind enough to send this review in. I know my staff will appreciate your comments, as you know they really do care about all their Old Raven family. In these times of so much adverse publicity for care homes it is good if others who need care get some reassurance. It is extremely difficult for families to be able to do this themselves and of course, some 'older' people do not have family and it can be a distressing time for them to have to think about 'care'. So pleased to know Phyllis has you there to visit her. Sorry, we do not get to chat often, perhaps at the Christmas party. I try to keep a distance as I know families like to speak to Dionne and the other team leaders who are of course close to Phyllis. Hope you did not mind me asking you to send in a review. I am sure you know that if you needed any help whatsoever Anne's door is always open and I am at the end of an email. Best wishes, Gillian

My Mum has been living at Old Raven for a few years now and is very happy there. She loves the food and there is a wonderful, homely feeling which I know makes her feel completely at home. For me, that's the most important thing - that she is happy and feels at home.

Overall I think the care she

receives is good and I am confident that she is safe and happy. My only issue is her room is not always tidy or clean - there is often a smell and it is clear that the room is not regularly inspected and cleaned. There is also an issue with personal items being lost - nothing of value, but clothing etc., which I appreciate is not necessarily the fault of the carers as the residents have a tendency to 'wander' around and leave things in different places!

Mum loves living here and she is very happy.

A very caring home. My mother has been living there for 18 months and there have been no staff changes to speak of. The staff are lovely and treat the residents with care and compassion. The staff are always around when you call in. The managers door is always open if you need to ask anything. When
visiting mum staff always know which room she's in- impressive!

Old Raven is a lovely care home with good size rooms and beautiful gardens. It is also nice size in terms of the number of residents and the staff know all the residents by name. The home organises good activities although unfortunately my mother has Alzheimer's so cannot remember them. However, the
staff are undertaking strategies to review pictures with her to try and help. Overall this is a lovely care home with a nice "extended" family atmosphere.

Current Review Score: 8.8 (8.840)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.8 (8.840) out of 10 for Old Raven House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.8 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 5.000 for Old Raven House is calculated as follows: ( (47 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 47 Ratings = 5

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.84 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Old Raven House is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 43 registered maximum number of service users is 8.6. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.6 = 0.465

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
