Pax Hill’s Elderly Mentally Frail Unit is a dementia specialist home, purpose-built for the very specific needs of those in the earlier stages of Alzheimer's and other dementias.

The building has been completely refurbished during 2018 and is effectively a brand new care home. Care and attention have been spent on details to provide benefits for residents in the early stages of dementia.

Structured activities are part of daily life and the environment supports the aim of providing an interesting and supportive living space for people with cognitive issues. The EMF wings' qualified care staff offer 24-hour residential care. The Manager and her deputy have years of experience in this field.

Set in the grounds of the larger nursing home and Baden Powell’s old house, the EMF wing benefits from its own enclosed, sensory garden accessible to residents.

All the bedrooms have en-suite facilities with large windows and views of the surrounding fields. Some have access to an enclosed patio area, some have a large balcony. The living, dining and activity areas are open, light environments where residents can join in with activities or observe others. There is a residents bar, library, cinema area and sweet shop. Communal areas are in different parts of the home providing choice for individual requirements.

Visitors are welcome at any time.

Having had experience of a normal care home for the elderly with a dementia floor, I was so delighted for my mother to come to Pax Hill. The difference in friendly, quiet, patient and effective care is remarkable. Nothing is too much trouble. Mum is very rarely anxious now and is generally content.
I feel confident that she is always well cared for and is in the best place. She likes the decor and loves the house and gardens. Thank you to Pax Hill staff!

We have found Pax Hill EMF Unit friendly and welcoming. It is set in a peaceful location, the rooms are spacious with a homely feel. The staff are very friendly and look after our parents, who both have different care needs, very well. I would definitely recommend Pax Hill.

Very happy with the care Mum is getting here. The staff are lovely and very patient and helpful during a very difficult job as I speak to some who are doing jigsaw puzzles. Looked at a few places before placing Mum here, no comparison, this place is streaks ahead in cleanliness and care in general.
The cost is very high but Mum is worth it.

I would unreservedly recommend Pax Hill Elderly Mentally Frail Unity for the care of a loved elderly person. The warmth and community spirit are immediately evident, with residents encouraged to base themselves in the well-designed and attractive common area where they can socialise and choose to take
part in activities. Loneliness is not an option, but privacy is always on offer too in the comfortable and well-appointed ensuite rooms. Staff are always patient and helpful, creating a calm, relaxed and supportive environment in which all care needs are fully addressed. I couldn't fault Mum's care, even when her needs escalated. She was a resident for thirteen months and we were always cheerfully welcomed on visits. Senior staff were very approachable, competent and supportive and regularly seen personally interacting with residents and supporting staff. The affection and respect that Mum was afforded were evident throughout her care, right up to her eventual passing when they adorned her bed with flowers. It sounds like a cliche, but staff treat the residents as family and it shows, we couldn't have made a better choice for Mum.

Lovely friendly care home - the staff are very caring and always activities on - especially designed for dementia with lots of colours and big windows for views across the glorious countryside. Cannot fault it! I am always made welcome and they keep me updated on Dad's care. So lucky to have found this

My mother-in-law was cared for in the Elderly Mentally Frail Unit at Pax Hill for several years, including the difficult time over lockdown. I am a health care professional myself and was always impressed with the knowledge and skills of the nursing staff, and the dedication, kindness and family atmosphere
provided by the nurses and carers. The environment is respectful and supportive, residents are encouraged to take part in activities and to be as independent as they are able. Any queries we had were dealt with promptly and tactfully, and we were kept informed of any changes in her condition. The staff training is evident in the calm way they can diffuse the situation if a resident becomes upset or agitated. The food is excellent and snacks and drinks were always available. As a family, we were made very welcome and when my mother-in-law died, the staff even attended the funeral which was very moving for us - they really did care as though she was family. Cannot recommend enough.
