This warm and welcoming home from home was once owned by Gracie Fields who named her home "Shangri La", a place of complete bliss. The home still retains the name Gracie gave it along with the tranquillity and peace she so loved.

Situated in the delightful seaside town of Lee-on-Solent it is a perfect setting to enjoy the spectacular views whilst also having the convenience of local high-street shopping and the pleasure of a delightful stroll along the promenade.

Since becoming a care home in 1982 Shangri La has gone through many changes, the most recent being an extension and complete refurbishment to upgrade the facilities, whilst at the same time maintaining the welcoming home-from-home atmosphere and ambience.

Shangri La offers a range of accommodation options in tastefully decorated rooms which can be individually styled. Most rooms have en-suite facilities, some include a wet room.

As a home for people with Dementia, particular care has been taken to incorporate colour co-ordination and comfortable furnishings in the lounges and bedrooms.

Each room is equipped with a call bell system and digital television.

Many of the ground floor rooms have direct access to the safe, enclosed courtyard gardens.

The gardens provide a safe enclosed area for residents to sit and relax with afternoon tea often taken outside. If they wish residents are able to assist in gentle gardening activities.

The gardens have been thoughtfully planned to provide a gentle strolling area making it accessible for all, including residents who may need the use of a wheelchair. The patio is a very popular area to sit and chat with afternoon tea and biscuits.

All the staff seem to really care for my mum as a person. She is very happy and settled which means as a family we don't have to worry about her wellbeing. The atmosphere is very friendly and everyone treats mum with respect.

Over the past several years three members of my family have stayed at Shangri-la. On each occasion, the care provided has been very good and appropriate for their needs. This was particularly evident during the Covid crisis when safety was paramount. I would have no hesitation in placing any further
members of my family in their care.

As a whole, excellent. My first time in respite care and there was in-depth preparation with the managers which set my mind at rest. The care was amazing. I was treated like family and nothing was too much trouble. The food was varied and of high quality. All the staff were caring and had time for me.
Any decisions were made with my agreement. Activities were lively and welcomed. The building was very well maintained. Cannot thank the staff enough. Very positive experience and attention to details excellent. I enjoyed every minute of my stay. Room and facilities excellent shows Shangri-La is run for the residents not for profit.

My mother has been a resident since April 2015. The staff are great, very friendly and caring and Mum is very fond of them. It is a very homely place with varied activities going on most days. We are always made very welcome when we visit and when we leave. We know Mum is in safe hands.

My Dad always looks clean and tidy and well fed and looked after. When I visit there are always friendly healthy staff on hand when needed. The carers are very supportive towards Dad and me. I feel that he is very safe at Shangri-la. The staff all take a personal interest in their changes. I am always
kept up to date with Dads welfare even though I live in Nottingham. Any concerns are dealt with quickly and efficiently.

I would like to say a big thank you on behalf of myself and brother and sister for the excellent care given to our mother during her five years and a bit of residence at Shangri La. We were always treated with respect and kindness throughout her stay as she was and in her last days before she passed
away the personal touches she and ourselves received were exemplary. We could not have wished for a better home for her in her twilight years.
Thank you so much.

Current Review Score: 8.7 (8.738)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.7 (8.738) out of 10 for Shangri-la is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.563 for Shangri-la is calculated as follows: ( (28 Excellents x 5) + (19 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 48 Ratings = 4.563

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.175 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Shangri-la is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 25 registered maximum number of service users is 5. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 5 = 0.8

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
