Sway Place is a stunning, purpose-built care home in the New Forest National Park. The team delivers a luxury lifestyle and an exceptional level of care to all residents, including residential and dementia care on a respite or permanent basis.

The home offers superb facilities, including a café, hair and beauty salon, library and five-acres of landscaped grounds. There is something for everyone, including activity rooms with a varied programme of group and one-to-one activities.

There are separate 'households' in the home, as well as cottages set within the beautiful grounds where residents can live more independently whilst also enjoying all the benefits and facilities of the main home.

I wanted to submit a review about the entertainment of the residents at Gracewell of Sway during Christmas and New Year 2016. We visited my father on Christmas day. In the evening, two activities staff had volunteered to arrange some entertainment, which rounded off the day beautifully and to which
relatives were welcome to stay.
On New Year’s Eve entertainment was again laid on, finishing just after midnight. Residents dressed up for the evening as well as participating staff. I felt this was over and above the call of duty and made the festive season very special for those present. I know my father enjoyed both immensely. Thank you.

I just wanted to say thank you to the Management and Staff for hosting such a wonderful Christmas Day. My mother has been living here for about 3 years but this was her first Christmas spent at Gracewell. I joined my mother for a delicious festive lunch and ended up playing Charades in the afternoon
hosted by staff. Everyone joined in and it proved to be a hilarious game. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming from the moment I walked through the front door. Residents were sitting opening presents given to them by the staff and delivered by Father Christmas which they all seemed to love. A huge amount of planning and effort has obviously been put into this event and was very much appreciated.


My mother is well cared for and I feel happy when I leave her, knowing that she is in such a safe caring environment. Gracewell is running extremely well under the temporary management arrangement. This team is making a huge positive impact on the way the home is operating. Many thanks, team!

I visit at least twice a week, I get great pleasure going there and love seeing everyone and mixing with the residents and the staff. My friend who lives there is very happy and very well cared for. They have lots of in entertainment which of course they can choose from and a lovely garden they can
walk around, or sit outside. It's a home from home.

Gracewell of Sway is certainly a Rolls Royce amongst care homes (or a luxury cruise liner!) The setting is lovely and the building majestic. The facilities are quite unsurpassed (bar! coffee shop! etc) and all the staff are friendly and caring, ensuring the residents have a very comfortable and dignified
retirement. The only quibble I hear from some of the residents is about the food but that may just be down to personal preferences or otherwise!

I cannot thank the staff of Gracewell of Sway enough for the tremendous support that they provided my elderly widowed Mother (and myself) in the last few months of her life. Following a period of treatment in hospital, she returned home a frail and extremely anxious lady who desperately needed comfort
and care in an environment where she would feel safe and secure. Gracewell was exactly the type of place that I had sought for her and after a month's respite care, Mum told me that she wanted to stay as she was so happy with the loving care she was receiving. During her time there I was welcomed every time I visited her and It felt as though I seeing friends at her 'home'. Sadly she passed away peacefully two days before Christmas but the intensive care and support she received were second to none. I decided to continue with our plan to have Christmas Dinner at Gracewell and I am delighted that we did, it was a wonderful occasion and one Mum would have loved. Thank you all at Gracewell.

My mother and stepfather have been resident since July 2015.


During their respite period, they were accommodated in a small room together on the nostalgia floor. Frankly, this room was not at all suitable for a couple - it was far too small and on the wrong floor. However, after 1 month they became

permanent residents and moved into a small apartment on the first floor which has been wonderful for them.


Throughout the 17 months, my parents have been resident, the care team have all been outstanding. They really care about my parent's wellbeing, making sure they are always clean and comfortable and enjoying a laugh and a joke with them.


Although my sister and I visit on a reasonably regular basis, the care team leaders always contact us when there is any significant change and keep us well informed of any issues. We really appreciate that communication.


As a result, my sister and I know they are always being well cared for.

What a truly amazing place Gracewell of Sway care home is - the staff are attentive and the care given to the residents is exceptional. As I live 200 miles away, I ring regularly and am happy that my father is in very good hands and when visiting, I am assured that he has all the support that he needs.
He particularly enjoys his regular trips in the mini bus and he loved his birthday celebrations recently, made special by all the great people who work there.

From the moment you walk in, you can sense what a caring home Gracewell of Sway is.
My Father in Law is looked after by people who demonstrate pride in their jobs and are affectionate and caring in their manner.
I witnessed a very moving moment when a resident lady wanted to dance. She was unsteady
on her feet, so a member of staff held her hands and danced with her.

I have been here for two and a half years,and it suits my needs. I wanted independent living with a small garden. I do go to quite a few activities and am happy here. My main complaint is that as a non-driver I do not get out very much. I have used the train and the local rural bus, but would like to
go on mini trips more often.

I cannot speak too highly of the care and kindness shown to my mother who is 100 years old by the management and carers alike. Although physically she is finding life difficult there is no deterioration in her mind and finds life a bit difficult to come to terms with but has received so much support
from the staff at Gracewell of Sway. As a frequent visitor, they are also so kind and supportive to me and always keep me fully updated with my mother's health issues.

Appalling, a result of poor management, risk adversity to the extent that whatever the care issue, it's never in the best interest of the resident. If you care about your relative steer clear of this home, don't get swayed by the decor. What matters really is the care that is given and this is poor.

I can't even begin to tell you how wonderful my father's welcome into this care home was. I am so grateful to them. He was a little apprehensive as he wasn't entirely sure of what to expect but as I accompanied him through the front door, the staff were so kind, friendly and warm, he almost immediately
felt at home. Their attention to his needs thoroughly impressed me and made me feel that we had absolutely made the right decision in asking Gracewell of Sway to take care of him.

My sister has been a resident since December 2011. She has dementia, she started in 11 with a suite but as the conditioned worsened she went to a single room on the top floor as she was also incontinent.
She has been very happy all the time and can not believe she has been there 4 years. The carers
are amazing and she gets on well with them all. Going out for fresh air - seems lacking - but to get her down by lift is quite a job. I take her down to the main dining room each Tuesday and we go out for fresh air walks then if it is not rainy!

Francis

Francis Bosompim

Job Title: General Manager

I love to see residents flourish and I’m so proud to see our fantastic team play an essential part in making that happen.


As general manager at Sway Place, it is hugely important to me that every person we care for is happy and feels safe. We work hard to ensure residents feel understood. For us, it is about supporting residents and enabling them to continue enjoying relationships with their loved ones.


One of my favourite parts of the day is the time I spend with residents and their relatives. It is a privilege to get to know them and hear their life stories.


I joined Care UK because it supports its teams. It is an organisation with clear values and there are systems in place that allow each of us to do our best, so residents receive consistent quality care.


I have a BSc in Dementia Studies and an MSc in Gerontology and Ageing. I also have a level five qualification in Leadership and Management in Health and Social Care. It is an area of study that I am keenly interested in, and I also spend time researching dementia studies at the Doctoral College at the University of Surrey.
