Elegant and comfortable, the homely accommodation has been thoughtfully redesigned, incorporating many original features to provide a safe, appealing and comfortable environment for its residents. Tegfield House is an extremely welcoming residential care home.

Residents benefit from outstanding care delivered by the fully trained, compassionate and caring team. Tegfield House is a very social and friendly environment and the full schedule of activities provides residents with the opportunity to enjoy arts & crafts, exercise classes, musical activities, cooking, days out and gardening. In addition, they enjoy visits from professional singers, variety acts and even some animal encounters.

Nestled in a leafy and prestigious suburb of Winchester, Tegfield House is encircled by extensive, private gardens which afford glorious views from its many windows and includes an aviary and summer house. The home offers a wonderfully cosy and comfortable setting, boasting a spacious lounge area and a restaurant-style dining room to enjoy their fully inclusive homemade meals. All 24 en-suite bedrooms are elegantly decorated and spacious. They are all fully furnished and equipped with a digital TV, telephone point and a 24-hour call bell.

Tegfield also offers a fully inclusive laundry service and access to video calling to keep in contact with loved ones.

My mother recently passed away while a resident. The care she (and we) received during her last few weeks was outstanding. I cannot thank the staff enough for all they did.

As soon as I came to visit my mother, the door is opened and I'm welcomed with a smile. The carer will always know where my mother is.
I feel there's a great warmth about the staff and they really care about the residents. I love it when they report back on how much my other has engaged in the activities
which are led by a lovely, dedicated carer and are relevant and varied. My mother is in a very safe place and well looked after.

My family are extremely impressed with the care provided for our mother. She is most contented than she has been since her Alzheimer's disease was diagnosed. We are particularly pleased with the level of engagement all staff have with her and the amount of activities that she is encouraged to take part
in. The home is clean, bright and cheerful, the gardens lovely and food very good. It is a great relief to know she is so well looked after.

The staff are amazing, from cleaners right up through to management. My mum has been very poorly these past weeks and the care and kindness and dedication she has received is second to none, and when I couldn't be there due to work, they were always happy to take phone calls whatever the time day or
night and to listen to my worries and put my mind at rest. I would love to give them all a big hum. My mum has the care she needs without going into hospital. Thank you all.

My wife started as a half day weekly resident and was fully mobile. She had a fall in our house and broke the head of her femur. She was in the hospital for about 8 weeks and when she came out she became a full-time resident.

Every time I walk through the front door there is a feeling of calmness and order and most importantly there is no odour. The person I visit on a weekly basis is happy and content there and it shows in her demeanour. The staff are cheerful, polite and whatever one asks for it is no trouble at all.

Overall good but sometimes staff are very stretched when short of staff - could agency staff not be called in? Trips out would be good for some residents. The lounge can be overcrowded making it difficult for movement among frames/wheelchairs etc - could do with conservatory to ease crowding.

We appreciate that at times it may appear that the home has less staffing than other times, this may be due to supporting the needs of those living with us or changeover of a shift. We would like to assure you that even during these times, management and ancillary staff are supporting the home and, in some situations, we will use agency staff to ensure we remain at safe staffing levels. The agencies we work with are known to the home and we are confident they have trained appropriately and know our home. We are continuing to recruit to vacant positions and will be welcoming new team members shortly where they will, no doubt, prove to be an asset and further enhance the care provided within the home.


Regarding trips out, our Activity Coordinator, working with the rest of the staff team, ensures there is a variety of meaningful activities each day, and this includes trips and outings, however, can sometimes be dependent upon the weather – we already have several trips planned for the Spring and Summer. In the meantime, Tegfield House remains happy to support our residents who wish to go out with their friends and families. We always welcome new ideas to provide stimulating and meaningful activities in the home and invite people to speak to the team about future events.


Regarding the size of our lounge, at the present time we are unable to extend the lounge, and whilst we like the idea of a conservatory, adding one would, unfortunately, block the light for several of the ground floor bedrooms. The suggestion of a conservatory is interesting, and this is certainly something we can discuss as an idea. The lounge area has been arranged to accommodate as many people as possible, however, we do have additional sitting spaces in the lobby and other areas of the home, including the dining room.

My mum started doing daycare at Tegfield once per week. The daycare includes activities and lunch. Mum was always happy to go to Tegfield and it gave her insight into what life is like in a care home. We found the manager and staff to be exceptionally attentive and friendly towards the residents and
their families. Every resident seems to be valued and treated as an individual. The home is very homely, and there is a beautiful garden.
Seeing this care home impressed me and my family with its high standards and made us realise that care homes can be very happy places if, as at Tegfield, the staff are committed to supporting each resident to have a happy life.

My brother in law was resident at Tegfield House from November 2016 until his death. I have nothing but praise for the care he received.
The staff were very kind to him and welcomed his family with great friendliness.
Great efforts were made to encourage residents to participate in a program of activities.
The home always appeared clean and the rooms were decorated in bright, attractive colours.
I would recommend it to anyone. Every resident was valued and treated as an individual.

My mother in law lived at Tegfield House for seven years, until recently she passed away. During that time she received excellent care, she frequently told me how kind the staff were and this was very evident when we visited. Not only do they have an excellent care and management team, they also have
a great chef, cleaners, maintenance team, gardeners and activities coordinator.
As well as meeting her care needs there was always someone to share a joke with, to bake her a special birthday care or sort out her room if required.
I would not hesitate to recommend Tegfield House.

My mother moved into Tegfield House in February 2016 for a month's respite stay when she became more frail and no longer wanted to live on her own.
From the time she arrived, she wanted to stay permanently. She found the staff to be very caring, friendly and cheerful at all times.
As a family, we
greatly appreciated Tegfield's efforts to offer Mum and other residents individually-tailored care.
Sadly she became physically unwell in March 2017 and gradually deteriorated from a long-term condition.
My brother and I discussed Mum's wishes with her for end-of-life care.
It is to Tegfield's great credit that Mum chose to remain "with my friends" as she used to refer to the staff.
Mum passed away peacefully in August 2017 at Tegfield House with my brother and I present.
I am a GP myself and I have rarely seen such professional, outstanding end-of-life care provided in a residential home.
With truly grateful thanks to all the staff.

Having to make a decision as to where your loved one is to be cared for and be happy is a most difficult experience. Overwhelming were the visits to other care homes which were not suitable to my mother's needs. Arriving at the door of Tegfield House was like a breath of fresh air. Homely, caring,
clean and inspiring from the start. Being constantly reassured that my mother was safe and happy, her medical needs which, were becoming more complex, were being addressed. The support of the staff to both mum and I has been amazing, keeping me in the loop of mum's needs and also reminding me of my needs. I can't thank them enough.

I can definitely recommend Tegfield House. The manager and staff had always been welcoming and encouraged both family and friends to visit regularly. On every visit, it was clear that my mother-in-law was very happy; she made lots of friends and was always full of praise for the staff. The staff
were always warm and friendly who consistently demonstrated their understanding of her condition by providing lots of engaging activities and regular updates of her progress. The manager and staff were always approachable and we never felt there were any barriers to honest communication. We particularly appreciated the kindness shown at all times that meant we were confident that a much-loved member of the family was in a safe and homely environment. We feel very lucky to have found a truly caring home in a beautiful setting with committed, knowledgeable, well trained and above all, friendly staff.

Mum had started her time at Tegfield as a daycare visitor, which she thoroughly enjoyed. As her Dementia worsened she was lucky enough a bed became available and moved in permanently in July 2015. The staff are kind and friendly, always knew where Mum was when I visited and kept me up to date on her
wellbeing. She made loads of new friends and her old friends enjoyed visiting her and taking her out for a few hours. Tegfield feels just like your own home, which was one of the reasons we chose it.

Job Title: Home Manager

I am honoured to introduce myself as the manager of Tegfield House. With over 30 years of experience in elderly care, I have always been passionate about ensuring people living in care homes are supported to live their best lives. This passion led me to join Hartford Care just over a year ago as the deputy manager, and I am thrilled to step into this new role.


Tegfield House is such a special place. Our home is more than just a care home; it is a family where we celebrate each individual's uniqueness, whether they are residents or staff. At Tegfield House, joy, laughter and treating everyone with the respect and level of care we would want for ourselves is something I deeply value and intend to uphold.


As we move forward together, I aim to ensure that we continue to provide outstanding care and maintain the warm, family-like environment that makes Tegfield House so wonderful. I look forward to working closely with all of you to create a place where everyone feels valued, happy, and well cared for.

I have been working in the care sector for 10 years, 7 of which were spent at Hartford Care. I began my journey at Tegfield House as a Care Assistant, gradually progressing to Senior Care Assistant, and currently, I hold the position of Head of Care.


I enjoy working at Tegfield House because it has a warm, homely atmosphere, and we continue to grow and develop as a team. I hold NVQ Level 2 and 3 qualifications and am currently working towards completing my NVQ Level 5.


I am excited to watch Tegfield House expand and continue offering exceptional care to those in need.
