Tegfield House, located in Winchester, is an impressive family home filled with character, warmth and understanding. Elegant and comfortable, the homely accommodation has been thoughtfully redesigned, incorporating many original features to provide a safe, appealing and comfortable environment for its residents. Tegfield House is an extremely welcoming residential care home.

Residents benefit from outstanding care delivered by the fully trained, compassionate and caring team. Tegfield House is a very social and friendly environment and the full schedule of activities provides residents with the opportunity to enjoy arts & crafts, exercise classes, musical activities, cooking, days out and gardening. In addition, they enjoy visits from professional singers, variety acts and even some animal encounters.

Nestled in a leafy and prestigious suburb of Winchester, Tegfield House is encircled by extensive, private gardens which afford glorious views from its many windows and includes an aviary and summer house. The home offers a wonderfully cosy and comfortable setting, boasting a spacious lounge area and a restaurant-style dining room to enjoy their fully inclusive homemade meals. All 24 en-suite bedrooms are elegantly decorated and spacious. They are all fully furnished and equipped with a digital TV, telephone point and a 24-hour call bell.

Tegfield also offers a fully inclusive laundry service and access to video calling to keep in contact with loved ones.

My aunt loved being in Tegfield House. She had friends and independence in her earlier days there. As she got older and needed more care, staff were there for her. She loved the varied activities on offer if she wanted to join in. Being free to wander in the gardens was so important to her and the staff
supported this. Staff were warm and welcoming.

After 3 weeks in hospital after a stroke I was welcomed to the home for 3-4 weeks respite care. I slept really well which was greatly needed and enjoyed the quiet. All the staff were friendly and helpful and the food was excellent. It was my choice to eat in my room, though I would be welcome in the
bright dining room. They helped me with my walking emergencies when able.

My mother moved into this care home in early December 2015. She remained in the home until her death in February 2016. The home were flexible in respect of my mothers 'end of life' situation and were able to be understanding of the uncertain length of time we needed the room.
My mum was treated with
dignity, and I cannot fault the friendliness and compassion shown to my mother at a very difficult time. The management were very approachable. They were very efficient at calling in the community nurses if needed.

I have lived as at Tegfield House for nine years now and I am very happy. I can still do a lot for myself but it is reassuring to know someone is always here to help you when the need arises. I love the security of knowing you have someone here all the time. The management and staff are all very kind
and caring. Nothing is too much for them. I am able to live the way I choose in a really warm, safe and comfortable environment.

I have been visiting the care home for over 7 months and have gained a fair amount of insight into how Tegfield House works to be a home for the residents there. In this time I have been impressed by the dedication and enthusiasm of the staff towards their job, as well as the genuine companionship they
show.


All care homes risk becoming a place of sedation and sedentary life; a place to while away the end of life. Tegfield strives to enable it to be a place of livelihood (with board games, parties, a beautiful garden with pet birds) and a place to peacefully relax. In needs both, after all, as it needs to be home. It has it's areas that could be strengthened, such as having the TV on for less time and more music/cognitive-engaging activities. Nevertheless, as a place of cleanliness and friendliness, it is top class.


Some of the most hilarious and encouraging times there have been to see the residents playing Bingo and word-searches together. It is a place that facilitates living, not just end of life.

Mum had struggled a bit with vascular dementia and had been at Tegfield for her last two years. She settled in very quickly and made immediate friends with the staff. We were confident that she was comfortable, had a lovely room and was very well cared for and looked after. The staff were kind and warm
and understanding and we felt she had arrived at the ideal place to spend her last years in pleasant surroundings and in safety.


The home itself is in lovely grounds and she enjoyed a walk around the gardens to see the aviary. She loved her food and was amply supplied! She preferred not to join in many activities that were on offer, but that was fine.


In her final days the manager and the staff were hugely supportive and nursed her with love. They understood we did not want her moved and were able to provide the care she needed. They handled her passing in the way we would all have wished and we are certain she could not have been better cared for, better settled or better looked after as she gradually faded.


Our sincere thanks to everyone at Tegfield.

My mother arrived end of March at Tegfield. The staff have been fantastic. Nothing is too much trouble and they are so kind to us as well as my mother. The room she has was newly painted and new carpets and she quickly settled in. She has had some medical complications but they have been dealt with
efficiently, with kindness and dignity. We much appreciate all the staff do.

I feel like I needed to submit a review following recent conversations with the Management team at Tegfield House as it dawned on me that they do not get the credit they deserve as their efforts go unrecognised. I have looked through other reviews which talk about the staff and the wonderful things
they do and this is becasue this is very visual however the good care that is delivered is led by those managing the home. Tegfield House is the home that is is because of the way it which it is managed and led. We had no hesitation is choosing Tegfield when we had looked at so many others. We were made to feel welcome the moment we walked through the door. We were not rushed and the time we spent asking many questions was never an issue. One home we viewed, they kept looking at their watch which was so off putting. The welcome we got was amazing and this was not just because they were trying to sell us a room, this was completely natural, Actually the Manager discussed other alternatives for my Mum in Law as it was felt she may not quite be ready for full time care so she actually started off as Day care. This in itself worked really well and made the transition into the home full time a much easier process. I would 100% recommend this approach especially if your loved one has dementia. We feel very much part of the family at Tegfield and we know that Mum in Law is happy, safe and secure and has made some really good friends. Tegfied is so relaxed which I feel this in turn creates a relaxing atmosphere and environment for the Residents living there. This is very important especially with those suffering from Dementia and I know that Mum in Law best interests are at the centre of everything they do.

I have been visitng Tegfield for Several months now and I have always found the home warm, welcoming and friendly. Everyone seems to be so happy. The Manager and Staff are always polite, accomodating and refreshments are always offered on arrival. I get a service with a smile which seems to be very
rare these days. Everyone you see around the home always say "Hello". The gardens are amazing and I particularly love the beach themed area and the aviary providing focal points of interest. Everyone is like one big family. I have got to know some of the other residents in the home that join in with a chat which is so lovely. I would not hesitate to recommend this home to anyone and whoever is fortunate to live at Tegfield they will be very happy indeed

I am extremely happy with the quality of care provided for my mother at Tegfield House. Since Mum moved in full time in March she has been very happy and she settled in really quickly. Mum loved Tegfield House from the moment she started day care in January, so she was delighted when a room became
available for her. She is eating well again, enjoys taking part in the activities and she enjoys the companionship. There is a lovely, family atmosphere at Tegfield House and the staff have been consistently welcoming and friendly. The staff know Mum well and I am reassured that I am leaving her in good hands. I have found the communication and support to be excellent.

Job Title: Home Manager

I am honoured to introduce myself as the manager of Tegfield House. With over 30 years of experience in elderly care, I have always been passionate about ensuring people living in care homes are supported to live their best lives. This passion led me to join Hartford Care just over a year ago as the deputy manager, and I am thrilled to step into this new role.


Tegfield House is such a special place. Our home is more than just a care home; it is a family where we celebrate each individual's uniqueness, whether they are residents or staff. At Tegfield House, joy, laughter and treating everyone with the respect and level of care we would want for ourselves is something I deeply value and intend to uphold.


As we move forward together, I aim to ensure that we continue to provide outstanding care and maintain the warm, family-like environment that makes Tegfield House so wonderful. I look forward to working closely with all of you to create a place where everyone feels valued, happy, and well cared for.

I have been working in the care sector for 10 years, 7 of which were spent at Hartford Care. I began my journey at Tegfield House as a Care Assistant, gradually progressing to Senior Care Assistant, and currently, I hold the position of Head of Care.


I enjoy working at Tegfield House because it has a warm, homely atmosphere, and we continue to grow and develop as a team. I hold NVQ Level 2 and 3 qualifications and am currently working towards completing my NVQ Level 5.


I am excited to watch Tegfield House expand and continue offering exceptional care to those in need.
