I moved into Tendring House for a couple of months while my fire-damaged home is being repaired. I could not wish for a better place to come to. The home is lovely and the management and staff are so good and kind. If I ever had to come to a care home on a permanent basis, I would wish to come here.

Mum was in Tendring Care Home for just under 3 years. When she was living in her own house, she was nervous at night. At Tendring she felt safe and secure, which gave me peace of mind.

My mother was at Tendring Care Home for nearly 3 years. She died at the age of 99 on her actual 99th Birthday. She was well cared for by all the staff, who were very king and sympathetic. She had a lovely room which was kept clean and tidy. Lovely to have everything done for you including laundry after
a lifetime of Mum looking after others.

Reply from Carol Lacey, Managing Director at Tendring Care Homes Ltd

Thank you so much for your kind words. Your mother will be very much missed by everyone, it has been a great privilege to care for her.

A beautiful home, caring staff, great activities, good food, good care and compassion. Management can be a bit disorganised, have missed meetings or not follow up on actions. Not the cheapest home and there are a lot of extras, such as hairdressing, chiropodists, opticians etc.

Reply from Carol Lacey, Managing Director at Tendring Care Homes Ltd

Thank you for your kind words. The management team are quite new to Tendring but have great commitment and are looking forward to working with the team to improve and make a difference. Extras are optional and always down to the residents choice. We offer in-house extras for residents at reasonable prices but other arrangements can be made if preferred.

My husband and I are very happy with the care his mother has at Tendring. She became very unhappy and confused when she lived on her own. Now she is in a warm, safe environment where she has company, excellent food, music, and activities.

I have found the staff very caring towards the residents. They have provided excellent care during a very difficult time especially when visiting was restricted. They are always happy to help with any problems. Now things are returning to normal they are providing regular social events for residents
and their families. I feel welcome to visit when I wish and take my father out regularly.

Excellent care is given to my mother by the staff. My mum thinks it’s like living in a hotel. Care is provided sympathetically by the staff. Management are involved with the residents, they are hands-on all the time.

The care home advertises its self as specialising in dementia care but this is misleading. As soon as my Father's symptoms move much beyond mild, the management issued a notice to quit.

The staff are extremely dedicated and made my Father's time here a comfortable stay. A good balance of interactive

activities is always available.
The management is cold and business-driven.

Reply from Samantha Weller, Manager at Tendring Care Homes Ltd

It is unfortunate that during your fathers stay at Tendring Care Home, his condition deteriorated and required more specialist care than we were able to offer during these unprecedented times. lt was decided that in the best interests of your father, he needed a higher level of care than previously when he first moved in.
We do hope your father has settled well in his new home and we think of him often.

Having led an active life and been reasonably fit it has been a challenge to live a life where through mobility problems I can no longer do the things I want to do.
But with friendly staff around I feel in good hands and I'm settling into an acceptable way of life. Activities are organised in a good
friendly atmosphere and it does help to overcome the problems and difficulties we have.

During such unprecedented and unsettling times, confidence in the care provided to your loved one is heightened. The highest compliment I can give is that there was never a moment's doubt or worry that our relative was not receiving the very best of care, for both his physical and mental well being.
Well informed "easy to assess" communication has meant that although not physically present. The last few months have had a purpose and meaning and we as relatives have been able to "share" activities and celebrations. Excellent.

Reply from Carol Lacey, Managing Director at Tendring Care Homes Ltd

Lovely rest home, with a nice relaxing atmosphere. Staff always very attentive and professional but without losing the personal touch. Various seasonal events as well which provides a lovely change for the residents, with the recent Christmas family lunch providing some great entertainment with quality
home-cooked food.
Quiet private garden area to the rear, which makes a great change of scenery, especially in the summer. Highly recommended. Nothing is ever too much trouble.
Well done Tendring Care Homes Ltd!

Very pleased with the care my mother has and is receiving. The staff are very kind and caring and there is always a happy atmosphere. The bedrooms are always nice and clean and the homecooked food is excellent. A lot of thought has gone into the entertainment for the residents.

I am very pleased with the service provided by Tendring. My elderly mother has been a resident since September 2017. It took her a long time to get used to communal living since she was always self-sufficient since 2006 and lived in a flat after my father died. My only real concern is the fact the staff
are constantly changing. The best staff seem to be the ones who stay the longest.

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.877)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.877) out of 10 for Tendring Care Homes Ltd is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.377 for Tendring Care Homes Ltd is calculated as follows: ( (32 Excellents x 5) + (31 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 69 Ratings = 4.377

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Tendring Care Homes Ltd is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 23 registered maximum number of service users is 4.6, which has been reached with 5 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
