  • St Vincent House Residential Home, Gosport
St Vincent House Gosport originally formed part of Forton Barracks and was built in the 1800s. In the late 1920s, the barracks were recommissioned as HMS St Vincent, a Royal Naval training establishment and continued as a training base until 1969. The Victorian property is detached, although still neighbours the rest of the old barracks, and has many original period features.

St Vincent House Gosport was the first of four homes that form St Vincent Care Homes Ltd and is now a family run residential care home, specialising in care for the elderly with dementia. The home sits in its own large walled grounds, with a beautiful conservatory where residents and relatives can sit reminiscing while looking out over the well maintained, mature garden.

Residents are encouraged to bring in personal items such as ornaments, clocks, photographs and such like to enable them to feel totally at home during their stay. Most of the 28 bedrooms have en-suite facilities.

Loved ones describe the home as relaxing saying their relatives feel at ease, which is largely down to a caring, patient, friendly and helpful care team.

Mum has been in St Vincent House for 3 1/2 years. She is very happy and very settled there. She is always happy, laughing and smiling when we see her. During a period of serious illness earlier this year, she could not have better looked after. She recovered and continues to be exceptionally well looked
after. The staff are truly remarkable selfless people. They treat the residents like family and throughout this incredibly difficult time, they continue to look after everyone. Communication about the situation is impeccable, very informative and compassionate. I would like to thank each and every one of the staff for all they are doing. I would definitely recommend the care home to friends and family for their loved ones.

On my father’s passing, I realised that my mothers' dementia illness required specialist carers. St Vincent House, Gosport, with its lush, big garden and colourful, open lounges where light pours in through huge windows, became the obvious choice. I visited many other homes, this was the only one I
would compare to a hotel. The immense light and fresh smell of clean linen hit you as you walk into the old, naval mansion. The smell of wholesome meals is mouthwatering. My mothers' room and en-suite are lovely and always highly cleaned. The manager/carers greet you warmly whilst efficiently bustling around to meet individual residents’ needs. The events manager has set up art, music (e.g. an impersonator), chair exercises etc, to entertain and gently challenge the residents, so slowing the further progress of a cruel illness. The amazing team have risked their lives, working ardently on the frontline with the statistically most vulnerable group, dementia sufferers. Thank you so much.

I am extremely happy with the care and support my father receives. The staff are warm and friendly, and the management is always available and contactable. In my opinion, the staff treat my father as family, and nothing is too much trouble. My father is very happy, and I would absolutely recommend this
care home.

My father developed quite severe dementia over six months or so and when he needed residential care we had few choices. St Vincent House seemed very suitable so he was moved to live there at fairly short notice. It was, as it has turned out, one of the best decisions we could possibly have made.
Even
before COVID-19, our wider family all felt that the care staff were delightful, hardworking and did everything possible for Dad. His room was en-suite and had a view across the garden area; the whole property was clean and in excellent order; the food was good; standards were high in every way. Nothing was too much trouble. We were relieved that he was being so well cared for and content enough to be there. We had little trouble with him asking to come “home”.
Since the coronavirus lockdown St Vincent House - management and care staff - have managed incredibly well. How they stay so positive and cheerful in impossible circumstances I simply do not know.
I can’t speak too highly of St Vincent House.

My gran has been at St Vincent for the past 14-months, she is well looked after and always has a big smile on her face, though at this extremely hard time not being able to see her, the staff have been amazing I cannot thank them enough for their excellent support for both residents and family. We are
regularly updated, thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

Over a period of 2 years, I have found St Vincent House Residential Home to be caring, understanding and allowing as much freedom as possible (within the obviously defined constraints of a care home environment) to my mother.
Personnel within the care home are communicative and loving. Management listens
to and action comments and input.

All the friendly staff take great care of my Gran. She has dementia and needs lots of support with routine day-to-day activities. We regularly visit and always feel very welcomed and comfortable. It is so reassuring to know that Gran is safe and well cared for.

I live approx 200 miles away and can only visit my mother every few months. Every time I am welcomed by happy cheerful staff and the place is lovely. My mother is always dressed lovely and clean. She has dementia and unable to do anything for herself. My father goes to visit her every day and all the
staff have been amazing towards him and mum. I would recommend the home to anyone looking. (5 stars from me excellent). The staff go above and beyond nothing is too much trouble.

When I was looking for a care home for my wife who has dementia, I looking at 6 points. Are you made welcome at the home by all staff, cleanliness, smell, safety, food and are the staff loving and caring to all residents, which I saw they were. My wife is 86 and has been at St Vincent for the last 2
and a half years. She is well looked after and cared for by all staff. They have different activities on most days of the week. Where would we be without these wonderful caring people. I would recommend this home to anyone. It's good value for money.

My uncle received the highest standard of care during his 2 years at St Vincent House. Sadly, he had been diagnosed with dementia a few years previous and he was no longer able to look after himself. The carers were very attentive and genuinely kind, the management team were very helpful, efficient
and professional at all times. The decor of the home was of a high standard, the rooms were light and airy and the cleanliness was second to none. I would often join my uncle for Sunday dinner which was always delicious! My uncle sadly passed away a few weeks ago, the carers were very sensitive and compassionate, enabling my uncle to pass away peacefully in a dignified way, surrounded by people who loved him.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.632)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.632) out of 10 for St Vincent House Residential Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.832 for St Vincent House Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (81 Excellents x 5) + (12 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 95 Ratings = 4.832

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St Vincent House Residential Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 34 registered maximum number of service users is 6.8, which has been reached with 8 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
