The Haven Rest Home is a family run home and has been established since 1982. Since that time, the building has been widely extended and modernised, with a passenger lift serving the upper floor, meaning residents are not restricted to units/floors.

There is on-site parking available and a lovely, large back garden that they like to make good use of (English weather allowing, of course!). The home has its own salon area, where a qualified hairdresser visits twice per week. There is a little shop area on the ground floor, for residents to purchase goods such as toiletries, greetings cards, etc. Newspapers can be delivered daily by the local news agent.

All bedrooms have their own en-suite toilet and basin and there are communal bath and shower rooms that are adapted to suit a wide range of needs. All bedrooms are connected to the nurse call system.

The Haven boasts three lounges, one on the lower floor, and two on the upper floor – one ‘television area’ and one cosy ‘quiet area’ with fireplace.

The home has been under new management since June 2020, and in late 2020 it also became an Approved Training Centre, which met full compliance in September 2021.

The team works hard to create a safe and comfortable atmosphere for residents, in a homely environment. They strive to provide the highest standard of care. They cater for all dietary needs.

Their values stem from their belief in promoting life skills and independence for the people who come to reside at The Haven. The team promotes and provides person centred care which begins with a comprehensive assessment of needs, from which they then develop a tailored plan of care that best suits the individual.

This is not just a care home for the residents, it is a care home for the family of residents. The manager and her team go over and above to ensure that everyone they come into contact with is treated with respect, dignity, care and above all...love. Thank you.

Following a fall in her home, my 99-year-old mother was moved from the hospital into The Haven, initially for a four-week evaluation. To be truthful, at first, Mum was not too keen on being there but after the first two weeks, she warmed to the place and the staff. Unfortunately, due to her advanced
age and prevailing medical conditions, Mum had to stay at The Haven until she passed away peacefully on the 27th of November 2022. The whole family agrees that my mum could not have been in a better place, particularly in her last month when she was bed bound. Throughout her stay, both she and all her visitors were treated with dignity, kindness and compassion. A huge thank you to the manager, carers and other staff for doing a difficult job in such testing times with professionalism and love.

I am a friend of one of the residents. I always look forward to visiting her and I am always made welcome by the friendly staff at The Haven. My friend has been a resident for a number of years and is very happy and settled there. I know she enjoys the activities held there, such as the bingo with the
other residents.

Mum started off visiting The Haven at their daycare centre, she went two to three times a week. She always enjoyed the entertainment provided and the food. The staff are very patient and attentive with mum as she has a brain injury and can sometimes be a bit emotional and fixate on things. In September
this year, it was decided that she would become a permanent resident after enjoying their respite services earlier in the year. She has settled into her room really well and the staff cater to her every need in a timely manner and always with mum's happiness and wellbeing at the forefront. The home is clean and welcoming, the rooms a good size with toilet and washing facilities ensuite. Mum has her hair done in the Salon they have there every week by the hairdresser that visits. The management team have been faultless in their advice and support to both us as a family and towards mum. We cannot thank the manager and the whole team enough for making mum's transition to residential care anymore easier.

My friend's grandma, who was like a grandma to all his friends, recently entered The Haven due to health complications which meant she could no longer remain in her home. The staff have made the transition as smooth as possible, the manager was simply faultless, answering all our questions and my adopted
grandma is exceptionally happy with the placement so far. An absolute credit to elderly care.

The caring and dedicated staff provided a safe, warm and happy environment for my father during his last year. I wish you had been able to know him when he was in fuller health but glad you were able to enjoy his company and ensure his stay was a happy one. Thank you.

Mother has been a resident for 3 years now. Standards have improved since she first came here, numerous staff changes in that time but there are a couple of staff that have remained, in some aspect. Always get a good response from the management if I have concerns or need questions answered. The only
issues are small generic ones, which get picked up immediately on discussion. I know the staff are caring though and my mum's welfare is being looked after well. Compared to some homes I've heard about, I feel The Haven is doing everything they can to care for my mother.

Mum went to stay at the Haven in July this year - having been in hospital for quite a while in an 'assessment" placing. I realised quite quickly, that the Haven was quite remarkable in that it truly is a family in all sense of the word. The Care Home Manager is so intuitive to the individual needs of
each resident, as are the care staff who really do see that each and every resident has the best of tailored care. I felt so welcomed every time I visited. I miss visiting. What a lovely environment for loved ones to stay in. I just wish my Mum had had longer in their care as I think that her life would have been enriched. Mum had been deteriorating for some time and was no longer safe at home. The Haven gave Mum the care and support she needed but also afforded her the opportunity to be herself and be the best she could be. I felt a huge relief after meeting the manager and the amazing staff that Mum was safe, loved and had her dignity. Wonderful environment. Wish she'd had longer.

My mother was admitted to The Haven in December 2020, where she remained until her death in April 2021. After a short stay in the hospital, the staff cared for her with kindness and patience until her passing. I cannot thank them enough for their support.

It's approaching the second anniversary of my mother being at The Haven. The staff are very caring and supportive, even helping with my mother's cat who lives with her. The homes response to the Covid crisis has been exemplary. My mother is happy and contented, which is exactly what I wanted for her.

My mum had a respite stay at The Haven in January. She was so nervous before she arrived, but right from the 1st minute she was welcomed by the wonderful staff and other residents. I cannot praise The Haven enough, the care and attention to Mum, their understanding and support of her visual impairment
were outstanding. Safety and security of residents was top class. Visiting was welcomed and encouraged, I loved seeing Mum so happy and well cared for. The food was delicious, Mum usually eats very little, but tucked into everything on offer. The activities, the friendliness and loving manner of the staff meant the world to Mum and us. We could not be more grateful for the lovely experience she had during her stay. Being visually impaired can affect confidence, but Mum blossomed at The Haven. Thank you all.

There are always ups and downs in any walk of life, including a care home. You need an extreme amount of care and understanding at all times. The Haven are very positive and understanding toward the future and the care of the patients and I have full trust in all the staff in achieving this. I am very
happy in the knowledge that The Haven is providing all the support my nan needs.

Two years ago, following a bad fall, my mother was admitted to hospital from sheltered accommodation. After several weeks on a dementia ward, she was unable to walk and had withdrawn completely within herself. The staff from the home assessed her, said they would help her regain her confidence and with
gentle, patient encouragement they have - I cannot thank them enough. Food is appetising and as my mother has a small appetite she is given a smaller plate with raised sides to accommodate the slight loss of pare in one arm. She has a pleasant room overlooking the garden and is able to watch the birds and changing seasons. She is safe and happy and says of the carers, those girls always have a smile for you.

My mum has happily been part of the “Haven” family for almost four years. Mum was always staunchly anti-retirement home, loving her own home until she had no choice after a fall at home breaking her hip.
The Haven staff made her very welcome on arrival and she has continued to do well and is always
happy and smiling, no different to her nature at home.
There are plenty of activities for those who want to take part but no one is forced to take part.
At 95 years of age, with quite a few health issues, she thinks The Haven is just like being at home but with company. And if our mum is happy then we are happy and reassured too.

My brother went to the care home in February 2018. He has dementia and many other health problems. He is a difficult person who loses his temper often. All the staff look after him with patience and lots of care. They have got to know him and look after his needs very well. I am happy he is in this
home. He could do with more for his tea though. Tea is very little for a man with diabetes.

Current Review Score: 8.0 (8.000)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.0 (8.000) out of 10 for The Haven is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 1 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.3 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.750 for The Haven is calculated as follows: ( (9 Excellents x 5) + (3 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 12 Ratings = 4.75

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.25 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Haven is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 20 registered maximum number of service users is 4. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 4 = 0.25

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
