Buttercup House has been transformed into a 20 single bed (17 en-suites) dementia friendly home. Each room has been uniquely designed to make them stylish and comfortable.

A newly constructed lounge opens out onto the landscaped and dementia friendly garden. In addition to a newly fitted kitchen and dining room the home now houses a beauty salon/well-being room.

All bedrooms have been modernised and refurbished. They are dementia friendly to help maintain resident’s independence, dignity, respect and choice. They are decorated to a very high standard and kept to a high standard of cleanliness. All rooms are fitted with a nurse call system, en-suite (toilet and hand basin) or hand basin, TV point, lockable cabinet, dementia friendly cupboard, comfortable chair and a standard bed. All residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms with their home comforts.

Activities are provided throughout the day on an individual basis by experienced staff to enable those with dementia to live well. External companies visit the home to provide group activities such as Bingo, Music and dance. Events and themed days are also organised throughout the year at Buttercup House. Events include a special performance from the pantomime theatre company, supporting The Alzheimer’s Society Cupcake Day, Dignity Day and many more.

Mum has been a Buttercup House Care Home resident for around a year.
We were invited to participate in a staff training workshop. The gentleman from the training company said it would be informal and if we wanted to we could speak about Mum's life before coming to the home and our feelings since her
arrival.
Several of the care home staff attended and were engaged in the discussions, asking questions and relating their experiences with Mum.
The workshop lasted about half an hour and we felt incredibly positive that the staff had listened and had a better understanding of Mum's situation and specific needs.
Both my husband and I would encourage other families to attend this type of workshop, well done to the gentleman from the training company and the members of Buttercup House staff.
Thanks.

My mother's admittance was put in place within a few days.
On arrival at Buttercup House, we felt that the care home provided for Mum was welcoming, smaller, with a friendly atmosphere. Staff made us feel at ease, showing us around the premises.
Knowing that she was in a safe environment, being looked
after 24 hours was a great relief.
Prompting her meals, medication and helping with her personal care made the transition to the care home the best alternative for everyone concerned in her well-being.
Mum's health at times declined, the staff would call the doctor's surgery, who promptly came, examined and monitored her health with continuous updates to all concerned.
Other concerns and questions raised are met with understanding, guidance and acted on. Giving me peace of mind and knowing that Mum's care, safety and well-being are what's important.
Buttercup House management team and staff are very much appreciated. Thank you.

Mum arrived at Buttercup House in December 2023 having had to move from another home due to it closing down suddenly. The staff at Buttercup have been really good in helping her (and us) adjust to her new home and I personally have found them all very helpful and caring towards Mum, treating her with
the utmost respect and friendliness. Mum is always clean and tidy when I visit. The staff are always welcoming to family visitors as well. Mum enjoys taking part in all the activities and, I'm sure, really enjoyed her birthday at the home as she was able to dance with staff members to a singer tribute singer on that day. I have been more than happy with the way the management and staff have kept me informed about Mum's care and letting me know how she is settling down after all the changes she has had to cope with and am pleased with the overall safety and cleanliness aspects of Buttercup. I have seen how the staff interact with Mum and know she is in safe and friendly hands.

Today I went to visit my mum and I was also invited to watch the staff do “Britain’s Got Talent” for the residents. The staff were amazing and danced and sang and everyone was clapping and singing and laughing. One chap who is a resident there joined in dancing too. Everyone involved at Buttercup House
always goes above and beyond for my mum (and everyone else). Whenever I visit, I’m always given a warm welcome. My mum is always clean and tidy and she loves the food. Such a lovely home.

My mother has been at Buttercup House for around 3 months. The care from the staff has been fantastic and there's been lots of activities for her to do. The food is great, always very clean and tidy when I have visited so I would say 10 out of 10.

My dad came to Buttercup House in June. We were invited to visit the home before deciding on the place. My husband and I were shown all around the home, the facilities, met the staff, other residents and all our questions and concerns were answered. My dad had numerous mobility issues and equipment
which were all easily accommodated. The team do all they can to make this feel like home for the residents, getting to know their interests, hobbies etc. There are also lots of activities and days such as BBQs, which families are invited to come and share in. Most reasonable special requests seem to be approved if given prior notice, which made such a big difference. I was also extremely impressed by the precautions routinely in place to prevent a Covid infection. Gloves, aprons and masks are provided at every visit and proof of a negative LFT is needed.
The home was always very clean. There is a very good relationship between the home and the surgery, with any health worries being acted on.

My friend was taken to Buttercup House following a hospital admission due to having had a fall at home. Originally it was to help her recovery, but she decided to stay. She is physically challenged but her mind is as sharp as ever. This does present some problems as most of the residents suffer from
dementia and she can feel the lack of conversational stimulus. The staff are aware of this and try to spend as much time with her as they can to provide that stimulus. She is choosy about her food but the cook is always asking her what food they can provide which she will eat. I have not seen it inside, due to Covid, but the garden is lovely. My friend likes her room very much, she also praises the staff. They are kindness itself and make visitors, as well as residents, feel welcome. No care home is perfect but Buttercup House comes close.

Thank you for your feedback. It is much appreciated as a valuable tool to aid improvement, which is always continuous. Your compliments regarding staff will be shared with staff and management alike. Please, be sure to ask staff to take you for a tour of our home and the resident's bedroom if this meets with the client's approval. Thank you so much.

Went to the jubilee party on the 5th of June. Had a good time with Mum and other people at the party. Had cake and tea. Nice to see everyone get together and talk to members of the staff. Enjoyable afternoon. A nice time was had by all.

Thank you, your feedback will be provided to staff and management. We are pleased you enjoyed the Jubilee garden party. As discussed we will be arranging a thematic garden party every month as a means to keep in touch with our residents' relatives and friends. The next one in July has a Mexican theme. Look forward to welcoming you then if not before. Thank you.

My mum was in Buttercup House for a few months. Despite the covid situation, I was able to visit safely when allowed by guidelines. She was very happy and well looked after. She got on well with the staff looking after her and loved the garden. I would recommend it as a friendly, professional care home.

The staff are very helpful and caring. They really do know what the residents and what the residents need. The accommodation is good, it's always clean and tidy. The staff are always aware of dietary needs and so as a resident you are always given the right kind of food for you. The staff are usually
aware if a resident is unwell or upset. They establish good relationships. We have a programme of activities, for example, cheese tasting and making bird houses.

Because of Covid restrictions being in place since before the resident came to Buttercup House, I have not been inside the home, only the gardens and the wood chalet in the garden. Therefore, my responses are only based on what I have seen through the windows or those related by the carer. I have had
limited telephone and face-to-face contact with some staff members during the time of my visits, but I have not seen how staff interact with residents or provide care. The resident has told me she struggles to hear/understand what some of the staff say due to their accents. Activities currently rated as poor but this is due to covid restrictions.

Reply from Naval Nagpal, Owner at Buttercup House

We are grateful to you for assisting us in providing a review. Be it at a very restricted level. We contacted this lady, to better understand the review scores.
She provided a 3star rating where she felt unable to rate the particular service due to restrictions placed upon us due to covid 19. Hence understandably the 3-rating placed is a neutral one.
We discussed the substantial activities our home had continued to provide (she was admittedly unaware of these). We will seek permission if she would like to join our relatives closed facebook page to keep her informed. We continued activities throughout the pandemic, thanks to our very experienced activities coordinator. We arrange person-centred activities reliant upon the needs of each resident. We continued to provide external musical events as well. The musicals were set up outside the garden patio giving clear sight and hearing to all our residents, indoors. She, was pleased in hearing this news. Will see her soon next visit.

Sadly Dad only spent a short time in Buttercup House before losing his battle against Alzheimer's and Dementia. However, the kindness and compassion shown towards Dad and the rest of the family during the final days of his life will always be remembered as perfect. The support that was given during
this period and the days after, made the whole traumatic experience so much easier to handle. We will always be grateful to the staff and management for the way they handled everything. We are sure if Dad had been with us longer, he would have enjoyed his life in Buttercup House.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.719)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.719) out of 10 for Buttercup House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.819 for Buttercup House is calculated as follows: ( (87 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 105 Ratings = 4.819

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Buttercup House is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 20 registered maximum number of service users is 4, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

CB listens and appreciates person-centred care and provides one-to-one activities and group activities.

Armchair travelling has become one of the resident’s favourite activities-Africa was the highlight of our destinations with staff who were African natives who came to work with traditional African clothing. Residents made a stunning 3D African female silhouette with African fabric, jewellery and African hair. African staff performed a traditional African dance. It was an opportunity for all residents and staff to celebrate each other’s cultures and embrace diversity and inclusivity.
