Facilities only satisfactory as the resident had long waits to go up the stair lift at start and end of the days which she found a little frustrating.
Activities only satisfactory as the resident felt that more could have been done to promote activity of some of the guests.
Having said that, everything
else very good. Would certainly recommend and highly likely to request another stay in the future.
Loving, caring staff who make the stay very pleasant.

Reply from Rezaul Hossen, Manager at Poplars Care Home

I am sorry to hear that there were long delays to use stair lift but I can now reassure you that individual's needs would be re-assessed and prioritised.
We would also look into the activities provision that we currently have in place to improve further to meet individual needs.

The staff are always welcoming and friendly looking after the elderly residents very well with patience and tact.
Television and music are always available and there is a pleasant garden in good weather.
The food appears to be quite presentable/tasty for the clients. (generally soft)
Hairdressing
and Chiropodist facilities are available as extras.
When convenient outings are available.
There is a stair lift to the en-suite bedrooms (some needing attention)
The medication per person is strictly and safely distributed by a senior staff member.
A coded lock ensures residents cannot 'escape'.

My Brother settled into Poplars very quickly and from the day he went to live there I have seen a huge improvement in his responses and I believe that this is because of how much happier and contented he feels. The wonderful staff treat each resident as an individual and the benefits of this are shown
through the relaxed, homely atmosphere. I am always informed of any problems, which are dealt with efficiently and professionally and regularly kept up to date with any progress made.
As relatives, we can visit at any time and are encouraged to share any worries we have or add any suggestions which might help or improve the day to day lives of our loved ones. The mantra of Poplars is for the residents to feel as though they are in their own home and they are treated accordingly. Their birthdays are celebrated with a party, there is regular hired entertainment - as well as the daily occupational activities - and they also arrange days out. This care home really is a "home from home".

Current Review Score: 6.9 (6.922)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 6.9 (6.922) out of 10 for Poplars Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 3.6 out of 5 from 2 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.4 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 3.565 for Poplars Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (12 Excellents x 5) + (2 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (5 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 23 Ratings = 3.565

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.357 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Poplars Care Home is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 14 registered maximum number of service users is 2.8. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 2.8 = 0.357

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
