The Radley Care Home is an excellent care home that seems to deal well with the needs of individual residents well and efficiently. The new extension and gardens are excellent and give the home a lovely, spacious feel. The carers seem on the whole to be totally responsive to the residents and are calm,
cool and caring in most situations. They go beyond what is expected of them and are always there to comfort and help the residents. My only criticism is that there doesn't seem to be enough staff - especially at weekends. This means that on many occasions there are up to 8 residents in the lounge or dining room without any supervision or anyone there to interact with them - this does concern me. Activities are fun and inclusive although I feel there should be more at weekends as the residents get bored without the structure of the week day.

The Radley Care home has been outstanding in their support during the transition from home/hospital to care home. Those who are on this journey know how difficult navigating the funding, referrals etc can be. We received advice care and a listening ear when things became difficult. Our dear friend was
made to feel welcome and treated exactly as we would wish her to be treated. They monitor her fluid intake, food, and movement. Things which give us peace of mind. They know when to be assertive and when to be kind. Our whole experience has been positive. The staff really care about the residents. We recommend The Radley Care Home without hesitation.

Reply from Sue Peate, Home Manager at The Radley Care Home

Thank you so much for your comments, we are very glad that your dear friend is settling in so well, especially after such an unsettling transition period for you all. She is so lucky to have friends who provide such amazing support and commitment to her well-being as yourselves.

Often the room is quite grubby. It's difficult to comment on food because my aunt is so fussy. Need to separate dementia patients and prevent items from being taken from other patients' rooms and also to prevent other patients from being assaulted by them. This has happened on several occasions and
some items never have been returned causing a lot of additional expense.

The staff are friendly and helpful. My sister tells me the food is good. Likes doing the quizzes, and colouring and they inform me if she is unwell or if they have to call a GP. Overall very good.

I visit my stepfather there, I've found the staff etc. very good and professional. The main thing is "he likes it there." That's all that matters to me. I know he's being well looked after.

My relative has been a resident for over five years and we have had no concerns regarding his care. During covid, we were especially grateful to know he was being looked after well. The staff are very caring and kind. The facilities are good and the garden is a big bonus in the summer. The management
are always approachable.

Thank you so much for your kind review, we are glad that you thought the service was good, especially as a large part of his stay was during the pandemic. Please take care and feel free to pop in whenever you are passing, we would love to see you. Kind regards Sue.

My dad was looked after extremely well. He was very challenging, and all staff had a lot of time for him. I was always told how happy he was, waving, joking, and of course, falling over and being helped up from the floor regularly. His dementia was getting worse, and he had a few spells in hospital.
The last one was with a heart attack. He passed in hospital in April 2022. Thanks to all staff.

We have been very impressed with the care and support given to my brother since he moved into The Radley care home. The effects of the dementia he was suffering from when he arrived there were alleviated as they supported him. As he declined and eventually died, we were very pleased by their continued
care and their communication with us.

Reply from Sue Peate, Home Manager at The Radley Care Home

Thank you so much for your comments, it was fantastic to see him blossom here when he arrived and start dancing, colouring and enjoying himself again. He was a lovely gentle man and we will miss him.

Over the years Dad lived in the home, he was cared for by people who cared about him. Over the years, staff members have gone above and beyond their remit. When health became an issue, they were very helpful and always tried to find an appropriate solution. Many thanks to The Radley and the staff.

I have found the staff at The Radley to be very helpful, friendly, and caring. The resident's rooms are of a good size and are very clean, and the staff do everything in their power to ensure that the residents feel at home there and cared for. The food seems to be of excellent quality and varied. My
92-year-old mother was housebound for a good number of years and has taken on a new lease of life since moving into The Radley; she says that she feels very safe and happy there and enjoys the varied activities that they put on for the residents.

Thank you so much for your kind review. Your Mum has settled in very well, and she has improved so much. We are so pleased that she is enjoying her experience here and she says she is looking forward to spring and the possibility of getting out into the garden, as we all are.

REST ASSURED - THIS IS A WONDERFUL CARE HOME
Our mother has been living and thriving at the Radley Care Home since October 2019, through lockdown. Although it was a traumatic decision to move her from living alone in her own home, albeit with carer visits twice then three times daily, we are all now
so glad, and most importantly, so is she. I am sure that she would not now still be with us if we had not taken this step. Our mother now needs a wheelchair, has Parkinsons, and as she puts it, good days and bad days. We have witnessed her coming back to life because of the genuine warmth and loving kindness of the staff of the Radley, which money cannot buy. She takes part in activities, has recovered her love of singing, made friends, and still has the companionship of her beloved budgie in her room, which the staff also care for. There is also a care home cat, which makes place homely. The staff are always available to speak with family. Recommend without hesitation. 5*

We have used The Radley Care Home for respite for our mother on two occasions now. Mum has dementia, Alzheimer's, vascular dementia and epilepsy. When she went in she was barely communicating with anyone despite family and friends trying to engage and stimulate her. I visited on Mother's Day with my
daughter and wow what a transformation in just a 10 day stay. She was talking to us in sentences, in fact, my daughter commented that it was like having Nanny back five years ago. As it was a special day the home had laid on entertainment, a wonderful vocalist who sang songs from the '30s '40s and '50s. Mum loved it and sang along word perfect. Not only were all the residents enjoying the concert but the staff too, with some dancing in the corridor. The vocalist told me afterwards that she visits lots of care homes but only in The Radley Care Home do the staff stay and enjoy her show with the residents. At other homes, they disappear and leave her to it. It's a real home from home and the staff are so lovely and caring.

Apart from work being carried out to improve the care home, everything is very good. Staff are exceptional and very caring and helpful, very clean and the food is appetising. I would recommend this home to anyone. The room is a good size and with personal touches makes it home from home and all family
members are very pleased that we chose this home.

I was very impressed when viewing the home and felt that it was suitable for our relative. Our relative was happy with the home and regularly commented on how nice the staff were, she also felt the food was good. The family were also satisfied with the care she received. As it is a small home, the calmness
suited our relative. It has a very pleasant aura.

Current Review Score: 8.8 (8.760)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.8 (8.760) out of 10 for The Radley Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.349 for The Radley Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (50 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) + (5 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 83 Ratings = 4.349

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.411 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Radley Care Home is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 37 registered maximum number of service users is 7.4. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 7.4 = 0.811

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
