The home itself is a residential home in a Victorian house ideally located for all amenities and is easily accessed by public transport. There is easy access via a large front drive and ramp to the front door. Parking is limited, however, there is also some limited parking on the road.

The rear garden has a dementia design landscape comprising of a figure of eight pathway leading to many seating areas and sensory flower beds. The enclosed garden is accessible via French doors from the lounge and provides a safe and attractive outside area for residents and their visitors to enjoy.

This is a residential care home to 22 residents aged 65 and over and offers specialist care for people living with dementia. The house is characterful and full of individual charm. The staff are all from the local area and a family atmosphere abounds. Person centred care is provided, personal care and support following a holistic approach to care.

There are easily identifiable signs around the home assisting service users to find their way around easily. The home affords two small lounges and a large lounge/diner. Activities are held daily in the larger lounge.

We moved our mum to Highbury Rise at the beginning of September. Our experience of the care here for Mum has been very reassuring. Mum has been looked after very well, and all her needs are carefully monitored and met, nothing is too much trouble, and I feel she is very safe here.
Staff are very friendly
and caring, and food is very well cooked and presented, with options for individual requirements.
For a small care home, I think the standard is
very high.

Highbury Rise is well run and residents are well looked after. Residents are fed well, cleaned every day and dressed.
The issuing of medication is all logged and issued with care.

I only see Mum every three weeks and only for 2 hours or so. It has been this way for three years now. I say the above to qualify what I say below.
Mum likes the staff here and we moved here easily in her residential care due to poor/under-trained staff. I can say I doubt we will ever feel the need
to move Mum from here. It would be easy but wrong to take the tone of an instruction out of context. The staff here do a very difficult job, coping with residents with varying needs, very well.

My wife has been in this care home for the last 14 months and I have found the staff and care they provide to be very good. The management and the senior staff are informative and always answer any questions I may ask them concerning my wife's care. Overall I am pleased we chose this care home for the
care of my wife.

Thank you for looking after my Grandma, the care she received whilst with you was more than we could of asked for. She could not praise the staff team enough- all the staff team were welcoming, friendly, helpful and most importantly so caring. The home manager was always so supportive and went out of
her way, not only to ensure residents were okay but to also support the family.
If she ever needs respite or permanent care in the future, your home is number one on our list. Thank you all so much.

My wife has been a resident for 6 years and has 15 years of Alzheimer's, which she still appears to be fighting (as she said she would!).
I and the family have been and still are very happy with the way in which she is cared for.

My mother was admitted to Highbury Rise during the COVID pandemic. From the first telephone call with the home manager, we felt reassured. Mum has settled well, is eating properly, but most of all is safe. Although we can't visit at the moment, WhatsApp video calls and newsletters keep us updated. What
we really like is that whenever we telephone, we are always met with friendly conversation and are never rushed off the phone. Keep up the great work you do.

Our mum has been in Highbury Rise for the past 4-years. In that time, we have never had cause to be concerned about her welfare. The staff are caring, compassionate, friendly and knowledgeable, and the quality of care they provide is excellent. Knowing that our mum is safe and taken care of is a great
relief for us.

My mum-in-law moved to Highbury Rise from an independent living facility several months ago. She has Alzheimer’s and at the time was suffering with a distressing period of psychosis.
What a relief for her to have been placed here. She is now totally safe and her care has been second to none. The staff
are incredible and never too busy to talk on the phone regarding any concerns.
Obviously, due to COVID restrictions we have not been able to see her in person. As difficult as that is, we know that this is to keep all residents safe.
We do however have the opportunity of regular video calls with her. This keeps us connected and the staff support her well throughout the call.
My mum-in-law is happy and settled, she eats well and has made friends. Above all, she is safe and cared for in the way she deserves to be. Thank you.

The staff are welcoming, friendly and above all competent. Mum has been at Highbury for almost 3 years. The challenges faced by both resident and carers can be as pleasant as they can be extreme. The home functions effectively and efficiently and always strive to improve. Peace of mind for our family
is 100% The bedrooms are small but still practical and the home is undergoing refurbishment to a good standard. Food is excellent, homemade. Well done Highbury.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.419)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.419) out of 10 for Highbury Rise is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.519 for Highbury Rise is calculated as follows: ( (55 Excellents x 5) + (51 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 106 Ratings = 4.519

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Highbury Rise is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 23 registered maximum number of service users is 4.6, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
