Mum thoroughly enjoyed her time at Strathmore Lodge it really is an excellent home, we really couldn't ask for anything more. The staff are considerate, caring and friendly, looking after the residents, making sure that they are treated with dignity and respect, allowing them to feel completely at home.
Communication from the staff as well as other staff members is great, via personal and group messaging, nothing is too much trouble for them.
We were always warmly welcomed when we visited, turning up unannounced was never a problem, especially as in later years as we travelled from over 200 miles away to visit her.
Sadly Mum recently passed away and the staff showed enormous care and compassion to us which was greatly appreciated at such a sad time.
Thank you again to all at Strathmore Lodge for the years of care and friendship you gave to Mum.

Strathmore Lodge provides an excellent level of service and care. The manager and another staff member take a close interest in residents, staff and visitors and have built a very welcoming culture that goes out of its way to provide a happy and relaxed atmosphere. The staff treat the residents with
care and dignity, and regular events and activities are arranged for them. The food is very good and tailored to meet the needs of each of the residents. My mother has been a happy resident for coming up to three years, and she loves the regular activities, as well as the opportunity to get out in the beautiful garden when the weather permits. My mother could not be happier, and I would have no hesitation in recommending Strathmore Lodge.

Kevin, thank you for your kind words and taking the time to complete this review. Moving into a care home can be a very difficult decision for all, but us all working together with your mum at the centre is the only way to make it less stressful. We keep striving to ensure that our residents are at the centre of everything we do to ensure that they remain as independent and in control of the their lives as possible (with a little support). Thank you once again.

We were making difficult decisions about long term care for my mother and what was right for her. Strathmore Lodge was highly recommended by friends whose mother was already a resident. We visited a number of care homes around St Albans. Most were larger and felt like a cross between a hotel and a
hospital. Strathmore Lodge felt less clinical and more homely. The staff are all very friendly, caring and considerate and conscientious. The manager is always responsive and approachable and does what he says. I thought it was going to be difficult with my mother in a care home and would always question whether it is the right thing, but have realised that being in a caring home like Strathmore Lodge it is the best thing in the circumstances. She is well looked after and cared for. The staff are all friendly and welcoming. Strathmore Lodge has a regular nurse visit, and doctor when needed, from the nearby surgery, which has been good and reassuring to know.

Thank you for taking the time to complete the review. Your comments and review mean a lot to us and help to identify areas of improvement. It is also very heartening to receive the positive feedback left in this review and the feedback you give us when visiting - it is very much appreciated by all. We aim to have a friendly, relaxed, caring and homely environment at Strathmore Lodge, where Residents are not constantly reminded that they are in a care home. Thank you.

An outstanding care home from home. My mother-in-law was very happy in her time with Strathmore Lodge. Caring customer service is at the heart of what the Strathmore team provide and this applies to all staff, efficiently and warmly managed by the manager and deputy manager.

Hi, thank you for your kind words and taking the time to complete this review. All our carers are great and caring. Having a low turnover of staff and not using agency for many years really helps to create the bond of trust between the carer and residents. Your mother-in-law left a very warm impression on us all and is very much missed by all staff and residents. Take care, please do not be a stranger. Kind regards.

Our mum has been living at Strathmore Lodge for some years now and is very much at home. Over those years she has met some lovely new friends and the carers are wonderful with her, even when she is having a growl! The art and craft activities are great and even with failing eye sight they make sure
there are nice singalongs and quizzes and communal films to keep the residents all going during the day. We call it her care hotel as she has amazing attention and lovely meals. The owner/managers run it very much as a family oriented home and are also part of everything. Communication is easy and responsive and they react quickly to any queries or suggestions. In fact, I will have my name down when the time comes!

Hi, thank you for your review and taking the time to give us your feedback. We do have some wonderful staff who work very hard and really appreciate and value the good feedback. We work very hard to ensure that we have a very low turnover of staff to ensure that our residents always see a familiar face which helps to build trust from the resident to the carer. It is very important that we all work together in the best interest of your mum so that she remains at the centre of everything we do, seeing her as an individual, treated with respect and dignity, and encouraging/supporting her to live life as she desires. All within a homely, friendly, warm and cosy environment - within a 'can-do' culture. Once again thank you

Into fifth year at Strathmore Lodge. My mum is really well cared for and her care changes appropriately as her dementia advances. Keeping her stimulated (activities) are important and really excellent. It's a small home with a very homely feel (not a hospital/clinical environment at all). The staff
are incredible - like a family - staff turnover is low and agency staff not needed. Managers are there most of the time and involved in all aspects of care as well as managing the home. Genuine care.

We had assessed a few homes for my mother beforehand and realised that Strathmore Lodge was the one the moment we were welcomed at the door. Everyone is so genuinely involved with the care and wellbeing of all the residents, and as a consequence shows in the residents' demeanour. The home is beautifully
kept and there is always something going on in the way of fun and interesting activities. The food always smells and looks delicious, and going 'off piste' is never an issue if someone wants something different. We were given our own key to allow us to come and go as we please (within reason obviously) to visit and told that it's our mum's home so it's ours too - which was a lovely reassurance. And that probably sums it up - Strathmore is run like a proper 'family home' - residents are active and involved every day and not left in their rooms in a clinical institution like other care homes we saw.

Simon, thank you for taking the time to leave us a review and for your kind words. It means a lot to all of us when we read such good comments. Making the decision to move into a care home is a very big decision and we understand the trust that is being implied when a loved one moves into a care home. But all of us working together with your mum at the centre is the only way to make it less stressful and successful. Teamwork is key. We keep striving to ensure that our residents are at the centre of everything we do and that we support and encourage our residents. Thank you once again for your comments and we are very pleased that you are all happy with your mum's new home. Thank you.

Strathmore Lodge is a wonderful home, I really couldn't ask for anything more. The staff are so caring and friendly, looking after the residents and making them feel completely at home and included. The transition from home for my mum was easy and the staff go the extra mile to ensure all residents
are comfortable and lead as independent a life as possible. There are personal touches all round the building and Mum's room is comfortable and cosy. Communication from the manager and other staff members is great, via family group messaging, and nothing is too much trouble. Mum has Alzheimers and gets easily confused, but the staff are supportive, both to Mum and us as a family, which is such a comfort to us all. I have been so impressed with the home as a whole and have enjoyed visiting Mum and getting to know staff and residents. It has a real family home feel, which is obvious from the moment you enter the building. We are so lucky that Strathmore Lodge exists!

My brother was in Strathmore for nearly three years due to problems with personal care needs and received all the care he required. Staff go above and beyond with making people feel happy with the care they receive within the home. I would highly recommend Strathmore. I know my brother was happy and
it was peace of mind knowing he was being cared for 24 hours a day.

We are very happy with the care provided by Strathmore Lodge. It is very well managed and has a warm homely feel. The staff treat the residents with dignity, and many carers form close bonds with residents, demonstrating genuine interest in their wellbeing. Tasty "home" cooked meals are served and adapted
as needed to specific resident needs, along with much-appreciated food and drink treats. A range of regular activities is run, along with occasional special events, to support physical and mental wellbeing. Strathmore Lodge has a beautiful well-kept garden with good access and furniture, so residents and visitors can enjoy this when the weather allows. Strathmore Lodge goes out of its way to ensure facilities are provided to keep residents as happy and entertained as they can be. Any requests, questions, or concerns raised by resident or relative are carefully considered and addressed. Strathmore Lodge has coped and adapted well to the extremely challenging pandemic circumstances.

After checking out several care homes for my mum, I knew the minute I walked through the door it was going to be the best place for her. The others were institution’s, whereas, Strathmore is truly a ‘home’ with its individual rooms, luxury carpet, and music playing suited to the residents to remind
them of their younger years. There were lots of daily activities for my mum to join in with, and I was able to see her as much as I wanted and encouraged to take her out and about. The manager said this is now your Mums home, so please treat it like yours too, which I thought was lovely. Then there is the staff. So many of them are still the same carers as when Mum joined, which is so important for a dementia patient. They care for her with such genuine love, respect and dignity, and I know she loves them in return. The manager is always so approachable too. If you want genuine warmth and kindness for your loved one in their elder years, you honestly couldn’t find a better happier place.

Strathmore Lodge isn't like your run of the mill care home. It's a lovely home for the Elderly, a posh hotel.
The love and care shown to my relative go above and beyond any care she received at her previous home.
It has a family atmosphere. The home smells clean, and the food smells delicious.
Definitely
would recommend Strathmore Lodge.

I cannot fault Strathmore Lodge; my great-great-aunt has been here for many years now, and they are absolutely superb with her.
She is stuck in her ways, but they find magnificent ways to encourage her to participate in some of the wonderful entertainment and experiences they put on.

Pre-covid,

they had wonderful people in from bugs and spiders to singers.
The staff are kind and caring. I actually enjoy heading into the home, and I am always made to feel very comfortable and at ease.
Care homes aren't always the easiest places to be, but Strathmore is just like visiting your family member in their own home, with lots of added guests!

I can't wait for the day when I can visit 'normally' again!

I cannot recommend this care home enough. My mum has been here for two and a half years and has been very happy. She says she is treated like Royalty. All the staff during her stay have been exemplary and nothing is ever too much trouble. The home is always kept clean and tidy and has been refurbished
to a very high standard. The Residents always come first. The weekly activities that are laid on involve everyone that wants to be included and the old music that is piped throughout the home must help to give the residents some lovely memories of times gone by. I would not hesitate in forwarding the details of this home on to anyone. I only hope that if the time should arise when I need to go into a home that Strathmore Lodge is still up and running.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.706)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.706) out of 10 for Strathmore Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.806 for Strathmore Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (89 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 108 Ratings = 4.806

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Strathmore Lodge is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 19 registered maximum number of service users is 3.8, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
